Hope for Us
Sweet Pea x Reader
Soulmate AU
Summary: You find your soulmate to be Sweet Pea, a member of an illustrious biker gang. Not everyone is happy that your soulmate is a gang member, but they don’t really matter do they?
It started out as a normal day.
Then again… don’t all days?
“Oh come on!! (Y/N)! There is a whole new world of possibilities!”
“You mean the Southside High students? Lovely…” you murmur sardonically.
Ever since your friend had found her soulmate a year ago she has been hell bent on you finding yours.
“I’m sure they’re not all bad…”
“Gangs, Estell. Gangs. Gang violence. Gang activity. Drugs. Drug traffickers. Moral ambiguities! Is this the future you want for me? Is it?”
“…no…”
“I would hope not…”
“But! You should be open to possibilities!”
“Possibilities? When am I not open to possibilities?”
“You just said that you wouldn’t want a gang member!”
“Your soulmate is on the football team, captain of the debate team and an honor student who has already has early acceptance to his choice school… and you want my soulmate to be a gang member… well it was nice talking to you Estell! I’ve got to get to class.”
“Just saying you should keep an open mind!” She yells after you as you head towards your class.
The Southside high students are integrating into your classes today and the unmistakable nervous twitter of your classmates can’t be ignore. You know for a fact that many are dreading they will find their soulmate among the new students. You glance down at your wrist where the first words your soulmate says to you have been emblazoned on your skin. ‘Nice right hook you got there.’
You roll your eyes at the phrase you’ve read over and over again for the past few years.
Several new students pile into your history class and you already know this is going to be a bad day. Especially, when the biggest one sits down a couple of rows over. He doesn’t say anything throughout class, but you can feel the anger radiating off of him. The candid fact that Reggie and a few others from the football team keep making snide comments don’t help. After class lets out you all pile into the hallway and groan as Reggie makes one more snide comment. You watch the shoulders of the tall one tense up before he turns around and squares his shoulders at Reggie, who does the same. Now, normally this would be the moment that you would flee the scene, however, you’ve found yourself in a Serpent and Bulldog sandwich.
“What did you say to me?” Growls out the Serpent in a deep baritone.
“You heard me,” Reggie bites back.
With no warning, or regard to your trapped presence, Reggie throws the first punch. The Serpent, seeing you at the last moment pulls you to the side taking the hit full force in the face. You blink in surprise for a moment just as Reggie goes in for another punch. The Serpent is a little disoriented from the first blow, so he takes another hard hit that sends him stumbling backwards.
“Reggie! Stop!” You yell.
He just ignores you and continues his assault on the Serpent who isn’t even trying to fight back right now. It takes only a moment for you to realize why.
‘If he retaliates they will expel him…’
With a righteous anger you’ve never felt before you tap Reggie on the shoulder and when he turns around you punch him right in the nose.
“What the fuck (Y/N)! What was that for!” he barks at you between his hands.
“Just leave him alone Reggie! Beating up on someone for no reason is shameful!”
“He’s a Serpent!”
“He didn’t even do anything to you!”
“So your a traitor now? You’re going to side with them!?”
“Just shut up Reggie…”
“If you aren’t with us, your against us. Remember that.”
You roll your eyes as you turn away from him and towards the Serpent behind you. He isn’t there anymore and with a disappointed frown you walk away.
After classes have let out for the day you are heading out to your car when the words you’ve read a million times float to your ears.
“Nice right hook you got there!”
You stop dead in your tracks and turn to the Serpent behind you. The one from this morning that made sure you weren’t going to be hurt in the fray.
“Thanks… I’m sure yours is better…” you say it as barely a whisper, but he hears you and he stops dead in his tracks.
You both just stand there there staring at one another. Drinking in the man you are supposed to send your life with. The man who was made just for you.
“I’m Sweet Pea, your soulmate?” he says after a pause.
You smile softly, “You’re in a gang and your name is Sweet Pea? Now isn’t that ironic?”
He smirks, “No more ironic than the school brain ending up with the school thug.”
“You’re not a thug… a thug would have protected themself and not helped someone they’ve never met. A thug wouldn’t care if he gets expelled.”
“Hmmm… maybe,” he says as he takes a step towards you, “there is hope for us yet…”
“Let’s hope so…”
The next day starts out as anything but normal.
A guy clothed in leather on a motorcycle stops by your house, and gives your parents a heart attack, to pick you up for school.
You and Sweet Pea walk down the hallway together, shyly getting to know one another, both equally curious about the other. You notice the way that Reggie and few others’ eyes follow the two of you down the hallway. A bad feeling slowly brews in your chest and you clutch Sweet Pea’s hand tighter.
He glances down at you and notices your tense posture.
“You okay?”
You just nod and keep your head down. The looks from your classmates are making you uncomfortable and you untangle your hand from Sweet Pea’s.
“I’ve got to get to class, I’ll see you later?”
“It’s fine, I’ll walk you,” he says with a boyish smile and a shrug.
“No, I don’t want you to be late!”
He laughs, “You think I care about being late when I get to spend a few more minutes with you? Besides, I’ll just tell them that I got lost.”
Your heart melts at his reasoning.
“Okay,” You murmur softly and take his outstretched hand, entwining your fingers with his once again.
You are quite sure that before second period even started the entire school knew about you and Sweet Pea.
Estell comes running up to you in the hallway after your math class squealing, “You found your soulmate!”
“I did… I did find him.”
“What’s he like?” She asks in excitement.
“He’s… Sweet… not at all what I was expecting.”
“You seem oddly okay with the fact that he’s a Serpent, a gang member, when you were very against it yesterday,” she says with a Cheshire like grin.
“I don’t know… I was a little hesitant at first, but he’s not what I was expecting…”
You turn the corner and almost walk right into an all out brawl between the Serpents and the Bulldogs. You could see Sweet Pea in the center of it all with flames in his eyes and he looks terrifying.
“Maybe you shouldn’t be okay with having a gang member as a soulmate…” says Estell quietly as Sweet Pea hits her own soulmate in the jaw.
“Peter!” She yells in despair before she covers her mouth in fear and worry.
“Sweet Pea! Stop!” You yell in fear as you notice several teachers come tearing down the hallway to rip the boys apart.
“All of you! My office! Now!” Yells principal Weatherbee.
The boys with grunts and with glares head off towards the office. Sweet Pea doesn’t look you in the eye as he passes you and you don’t know what to say.
“Your soulmate just beat the shit out of my soulmate…” says Estell with a slight quiver in her voice.
“I’m sure there is a reasonable explanation…”
“No! You and your soulmate need to stay away from us…He’s dangerous!”
“Estell!” You yell as she turns and runs down the hallway.
The remaining students just glare after you as you head off down the hallway to your next class. You feel hopeless and a little lost as you contemplate what you should be doing.
You don’t see your friends or Sweet Pea for the rest of the day and everyone seems to be ignoring your texts. When the day ends and you notice that Sweet Pea’s bike is already gone, you feel anger lick at your heart as you start the long trek home, feeling thoroughly alone and scorned.
“How is it…” you grumble to yourself as you walk home, “Am I the person that everyone is mad at when I didn’t even do anything!”
When you get home you see Sweet Pea sitting on your front porch with his head down. You walk right up to him and he looks forlornly up at you.
“I’m sorry…” he croaks out.
You sit down next to him on the porch and just nod.
“Are you going to tell me what happened today?”
“They… they said I wasn’t good enough for you… that I would just drag you down and I should stay away from you. That one guy… Peter? Told me you didn’t want to have anything to do with me. That you’d told your friend that you couldn’t stand the fact that your Soulmate is a Serpent and you’re only being nice to me because you’re afraid of me…I was so heartbroken that I lost it… and I knew they were right… I’m not good enough for you…”
“Sweet Pea… The universe put us together for a reason, so obviously you are…”
“What if it’s a mistake? You know I’m not as smart as you… I’m probably never going to get out of this town.”
“Why would you not be able to? You can do whatever you want with your life.”
“Not if I end up in jail…”
“Who says you are going to? You’ve already written your future based on the assumptions of everyone around you… Look I know we aren’t a conventional pair, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to drag me down or be an inconvenience. Okay? It’s day two, let’s not assume that our life is over just yet okay?”
“So you’re okay with the fact that I’m a Serpent?”
“I-I’m getting used to the idea…”
He laughs as he wraps an arm around you, “They are my family, they’ve done more for me than my own parents have. If I ask them… the will put me through college.”
“Is that want you want?”
“It is now…”
“What’s changed?” you ask with a secret smile.
“Well… I met this great girl… and she believes in me… And I think we’re going to spend our life together, so I better get my shit in order.”
“Well… I think there might just be hope for us yet…”
EDIT: If I get at least 20 comments on this I’ll make this into a 3 part mini series.
