Licancabur erupting?
Situated atop the Altiplano along the Andean Cordilleras at the watershed between Bolivia and Chile the wonderful perfect cone of this stratovolcano (see http://bit.ly/2csRFVB) rises above the desert plains and salt pans that comprise the region’s physical geography. The photo superficially resembles that of another stratovolcano called Villarica many kilometres further south in eruption last year, but the eerie light does not come from glowing lava. The sun is about to rise behind the mountain and the light is scattering in the dust as the first ray shines in from behind the crater rim, creating a crepuscular ray that resembles an eruption seen from afar.

One of the Driest Deserts on Earth Blooms with Life and Color
The Atacama Desert in Chile is known as one of the driest and most barren places on Earth. Although the desert is usually dead land, this year El Nino’s staggering rainfall caused the bursting blooming of the seeds, which have been hibernating.
