Oops, apparently i did a masonyew poll twice. will do an extra poll tomorrow to correct for it
Curious why so many alabaster containing ships lately
We're doing Alabaster Week for Halloween! To cap off our month of chthonic demigod ships for October.
We'll be back to our normal variety of ships tomorrow though, for those who feel like it's getting a bit repetitive.
How do you choose your ships? Ive been waiting for ages for mine to get posted :(
Originally I was following a pattern of one canon or semi-canon ship + one non-canon ship a day. Once I mostly ran out of canon and semi-canon ships I moved to just random ships, or i might group some ships together (such as same pairing but different format, like romantic vs platonic or requited vs unrequited). I also usually group crackships together for crackship days, particularly non-crossover ones. I will occasionally do little themed weeks or similar just for fun or etc as well, like right now we're doing all chthonic-related ships for October and I have a special theme lined up for Halloween week.
I have ships in order of submission in my spreadsheet and I will generally try to go through them in rough order, though I will also try to vary characters a bit so folks don't get too much of singular characters or very similar ships each day (unless there is another theme for the day, again like same pairing in different formats). Because of this it can take a bit for ships to turn up, but if you submitted it to the inbox or form rest assured it will show up.
I do recommend though for anyone submitting ships to check to make sure the ship has not already been polled, as I have gotten a few submissions for ships that have already gone through, and I will probably not rehash specific polls unless there is significant demand to for some reason.
hey what if as a joke for the rest of October we only did chthonic character ships?
I am slowly running out of canon and semi-canon ships so we're probably gonna break from format soon and just do whatever ships.
Hello! I have a question
So we aren’t allowed to campaign for specific results and such, which makes perfect sense! But are we allowed to share opinions respectfully in tags or reblogs?
If possible, just to keep the polls as unbiased as possible, we'd prefer you hold off on sharing specific opinions about ships until the poll is over, in reblogs, tags, comments, or otherwise.
Once a poll is over you can do whatever you want really, though we still ask please no harassment of any ships and to just generally be respectful.
We also please ask that you do not talk about preferring a different pairing featuring one or more of the characters in a poll in the comments/tags, particularly preferring it over the ship in the poll or otherwise referencing other ships in comments/etc on poll posts as this is also generally rude or negative towards the ship in question. This specifically preferably still applies after the poll is over again just to be respectful. The only exception would be something like after a poll is over discussing a whole ship from the poll but specifically in the context of it being a portion of a polyamorous ship or similar (ex: "I like Percabeth, but generally more so in the context of Perpipabeth.")
while i fill up the queue, a bonus poll:
WHOOPS QUEUE RAN OUT AGAIN. brb.
how many ship submissions do you have? in queue and on the docs?
I haven't updated the queue yet but in total we've gotten over 100 submissions on the form and have over 150 ships listed on my notes-keeping document. There's about 110 ships to add to the queue for voting currently, though I haven't gone through the latest batch of submissions yet.
hi, would you consider adding a "propaganda" section to the polls, where the person submitting them could write about why they like the ship/what they imagine the dynamic to be like/etc?
We are intentionally not doing propaganda for the polls - the polls are trying to be as unbiased as possible to get a scan of data for how the general fandom views each pairing without influence. We aren't trying to skew people in favor or against any particular ships, or pit ships against each other to see which "wins." Adding propaganda for or against ships in the comments of polls is actively discouraged as long as the poll is active, as stated in the blog's rules.
If you'd like to add elaboration about your thoughts on ships after a poll has concluded, you are welcome to do so, but we won't be reblogging that here as that's not what this blog is about.
While i queue some more polls, just a reminder - please do not leave negative/hate comments towards ships in the comments of any of the polls! We're trying to keep the voting unbiased. It is against our rules to leave negative comments on the polls so comments in that vein will be hidden in the notes or removed. Everybody play nice. Thank you!
oops the queue ran out 💀one moment
Will a ship blog reblogging a pol of said ship skew the results?
That's perfectly fine! Reblogs are expected, and I tag each poll with the ship in question, so it's already expected that said poll will reach that specific ship's community.
Our only request is that you don't campaign for specific results - so no encouraging specific votes or telling people what to vote for to achieve a certain goal. Just reblogging to a ship blog is perfectly fine!
What's with the shipname smartwater? Where is that from?
"Smartwater" is an old proposed alternative ship name for Percabeth, in the ship name style of using alternative phrases or combos of words rather than just combining character names - in this case, "Smart" for Annabeth and "Water" for Percy each signifying their notable "powers", and jokingly such as the brand Smartwater. In it's original form it wasn't particularly meant to be taken seriously or expected to be used.
It's come back into circulation recently as a means to specify show!Percabeth versus other iterations of Percabeth, not particularly for any reason, but the distinction does help for those being introduced to the franchise through the show only and who are wanting to avoid spoilers.
How is this blog different from @pjo-ship-polls?
1.) We aren't using any statistics from Ao3 or similar. Ships are almost entirely through submissions. We also do not intend to do any polls pitting different ships against one another - this is entirely polling opinions on different ships. We're looking to see general attitudes towards a wide variety of different ships, not popularity of each ship.
2.) Ships span across all series/riordanverse media, including TKC, MCGA, ghostwritten books/companion novels, and etc, so characters like Alabaster or Claudia are not excluded. We're also including ship formats like polyamorous ships with 3 or more characters, character x themself, crackships (such as character x inanimate object), Character x OC, Character x Reader/Self-insert, and crossover ships.
3.) We may also do multiple polls of specific ships, such as across different adaptations (ex: General Percabeth, Books, Movies, Show, Musical, etc etc, in this example due to the already existing fandom specification of Percabeth [general] versus Smartwater [show]), specifying ships of different adaptations to begin with (that may be more or less "canon" depending on adaptation), or we have specification options for ships in different relations formats, such as romantic vs queerplatonic vs platonic, etc.
Hope this helps!
