Sentry lore dump: Sentry and Default Durge

You may have noticed sometimes I include both Sentry and Default Durge (AKA Gary per several in jokes) in some of my fanfics. I like writing family dynamics a lot so I usually have a lot of Bhaalspawn in general, but how does it work with two Durges? Sentry isn't simply rewritten as a Bhaalspawn born of a mortal womb like his siblings in this scenario, instead his story starts much the same, except that 'Vereena' was created specifically to breed with Default Durge, to create perfect pureblood Bhaalist assassin's.

Depending on the setting and inspirations I'm going for, Default Durge rejects this wholly and protects Sentry as a favored little brother and an equal and Sentry idolizes him and tries to live up to him, his every action guided by what will make big brother proud.

In other iterations (Fatal Frame inspired, Crimson Peak inspired, ASoIaF inspired), the two lean directly into Sentry's purpose, but Default Durge isn't interested in sharing him with anyone except perhaps Enver and is violently possessive of him, which Sentry only encourages and feeds into as part of a toxic need for big brother's love and affection. He will occasionally toy with others to draw big brother's jealousy and anger in these types of settings.

Thank you for this ask as well! Sentry Ojeda- Probably some sort of slasher or folk lore villain, I'm leaning towards a sort of Vlad Tepes type knight or Headless Horseman. Jaina Thalassa- I like to picture her as a beautiful siren or mermaid, but also I know in my heart there is no universe where she isn't in either a shark kigu or the Katy Perry concert Left Shark outfit. Octavia of Creche K'liir- She's going as Elminster or Mordenkainen or some other famous wizard Kroger of Creche K'liir- He'll play up the stereotype, be Dr. Frankenstein with Karlach as his bestie going as the monster and he will be pedantic as fuck about it all night. Jackal Silk- Springheeled Jack or a Jack The Ripper type 100% though it would be funny to see him as Gaston since he's a ranger and all.

Get to know my characters: Sentry Ojeda, an unconventional paladin:

One of Sentry's main conceits about his faith and how his oath works is 'Ilmater said I could' or 'Okay, well you just don't GET The Broken God like I do. He's actually a really fun guy.' "Lawful" is relative. Sentry's oath is to the person Commander Evagria Ojeda, his adoptive mother, was and what she taught him. So long as he is helping the marginalized and downtrodden, his methods don't need to be pacifist, good, or legal. Baldur's Gate's law says the patriars are the most important people and disturbing or impeding them is a crime. Mum's law says Patriars are full of shit and cause 90% of the city's suffering with their selfishness and greed, so by Sentry's logic, he is allowed to harm, annoy, and even kill patriars if it would probably benefit the suffering downtrodden in some way. Also he is 100% allowed to steal from patriars, ruin their stuff, and inconvenience them in pursuit of that same goal. It's okay, Ilmater totally said it's okay. (He actually didn't, but that's Sentry's logic)

"Nice is different than good"

When Sentry is nice, he isn't necessarily doing good and when he is doing good, he isn't necessarily doing it nicely. Sometimes you need to do terrible things to effect change for the greater good....and sometimes you're sleeping with/desperately in love with a tyrant/arms dealer and you grin and smile affably through dinner parties where decisions are being made that are absolutely evil. But Gortash totally understands being oppressed and downtrodden! He'll definitely make things better in the long run probably.. .right? Plus, he understands Sentry so well! (This is absolutely delusional thinking from a smitten Bhaalspawn with no concept of a healthy relationship)

Although he grew up in the church of Ilmater and he does certainly respect The Broken God and finds him more genuine than most, Sentry's beliefs and oaths are all about the people he loves. Commander Mum , Enver Gortash, Astarion, Halsin, even Orin and some of his other siblings...all his power and everything he is is a belief in the people he loves and the oath to protect them.

Anyway. This is just my little lore dump about why Sentry works the way he does.
