Sometimes I'd like to know what Kishimoto must think of his fans.

He made racism Tobirama's only personality. And fans say he loved the Uchiha.

He created two female characters obsessed with a boy. And fans are fighting to see which of Sakura and Hinata is better.

He makes Shikamaru a sexist. Fans say that Sasuke, who treats everyone the same, is a misogynist.

He makes Naruto the world's greatest promise-breaker. And fans call him a ray of sunshine.

He writes Sakura as a toxic girl. Fans identify with her.

He writes Rin off as a 12-year-old child soldier who's afraid to die before telling Kakashi she loves him. Fans call her a selfish bitch for rejecting Obito, even though the guy in question sees nothing wrong with it.

He drew on his own relationship with his brother to write Naruto and Sasuke. He makes Naruto say that he sees Sasuke as a brother. And fans say he's queerbaited them.

He makes Neji die to bring Naruto and Hinata closer together. NaruHina fans reduce Neji to Boruto's uncle.

He made Sasuke and Itachi blood brothers. Fans ship them together.

He turned the Hokages into dictators, constantly committing crimes against humanity. Fans congratulate Kakashi and Naruto on becoming Hokage.

He claims that Sasuke is more realistic than Naruto, and that he himself would be unable to forgive those who harmed his family. Fans call Sasuke a selfish emo.

I could go on and on, but it would take all day.

I think some of you would’ve heard that there’s another wave of crackdown on danmei which involves danmei audio dramas taken down. An argument I’ve seen for a few times on twitter and youtube is that the Chinese government should promote danmei more because there’s so much demand internationally and it could help China earn a lot of money. Now the thing you should understand about the Chinese government is that more than money and more than the well-being of its own people, it cares about the image China projects, and it cares about looking good to others and saving face. This is the government that sent free grain to other countries and refused international humanitarian aid during the Great Chinese Famine while tens of millions of Chinese people starved to death, just to show that China was totally fine and going strong as ever. It’s like we’re literally this meme:

So I’m guessing that the more popular danmei becomes domestically and internationally, the more our homophobic government will try to censor it, because it certainly wouldn’t want China to be known as “that country famous for its BL novels, feminine men, and fictional gay couples.” Above all else, our government wants to have full control over the international community’s perception of China, and it’s also why our government is so desperate to paint China as this major world power on the rise even though our economy is hitting absolute rock bottom atm.

I usually like to do the exact opposite of what I’m told to do so I guess my Chinese literature reading will be exclusively danmei now? :P So much respect for writers sticking it out and still producing danmei atm, also if any Chinese readers find any good danmei novels yet to be translated, feel free to let me know as I’ll be happy to translate or help translate, even though I don’t have a lot of free time…

I'm not entirely new to the MDZS fandom, as I've loved WangXian for what feels like eons now, but I admit I've yet to make any friends I can discuss MDZS stuff with, since I'm shy as hell. But desperate times call for desperate measures, so I'm finally just going to type this up and then close my eyes as I post this in hopes of fixing that, lol.

I'll add a bit more about me in the tags, but if you also share the following with me, please like this post, reblog it, reply to it, or just straight up send me an ask or IM, because even though I haven't written fanfics in years now, I have fic ideas, thoughts, and others stuff that I'd really like to discuss with others!

  • Liking only top!Lan Wangji / bottom!Wei Wuxian.
  • Disliking the Jiang family very much (Yanli excluded).
  • Side-eyeing the major clans, Jiang and Lan included.
  • Sometimes wanting to punch Lan Xichen in the face for listening to Jin Guangyao over his own little brother, among other reasons.
  • Oftentimes wanting to yell at Lan Qiren for being a hypocrite, among other reasons too.

I know its already been pointed out why JC is critisized more wen debt and all that

But i think we dont talk about the betrayal wei wuxian would've felt seeing his face in front, leading the rest of the siegers onto burial mounds

Like i do think hes worse than the rest of them all combined, because his participation was the one that must've hurt WWX the most because unlike the rest HES THE ONE WHO WAS CLOSEST TO WWX, shared the same clothes, ate the same food, fought a whole war together

Only to bring death to his doorstep in a blind rage

I hate how even when kishi wanted to over power female character he fails miserably the last is Japanese Disney version

Avatar

Kishi didn’t write the Last. He only gave SP the permission to make a naruhina movie. But he did not supervise it.

Naruto’s character was too boring and cringy. The fact that it took a memory genjutsu to make him relaize Hinata’s feelings for him made him look like a moron.

Sakura should have been that cool YouTuber, uploading videos of Naruto and Sasuke flirting fighting and funny captions like "Local gays fight over who pets the cat first".

Spoilers, it chose Sakura first.

THE LAST (what a waste of time)

These are, from my point of view, some inconsistences I found from this movie. Not a proper analysis, just my thoughts.

I dont know where to start but first with Naruto.

I have seen all the Shippuden Movies, from 1 -Death of Naruto , to this one number 7. Almost in all these movies there was a princess or a girl who will be his "companion" across the events of the movie. We had Shion, Amaru, also the Snow princess- movie 1 from Part 1- and etc. In all of them, Naruto had chemistry with them. Not an amazing relationship since we have short time, an 1 hour and half, but there wasn't this akwardness and discomfort around the female co-protagonist.

With Hinata this happened. The Naruto we saw here, it's completely different from the person and shining boy we see until 479. I know, 2 years passed but in Shippuden 3 years passed , and we saw the transition from a kid naruto -12 yo.- to a 15/6 y.o. boy entering in adolescence. Two different evolutive stages, and yet he was the same shingin boy we know; of course he matured AND HE MATURED WITH SO MUCH MORE EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.

There are many fact wrong in this movie. First, across the whole thing he looks almost desolated, very quiet and akward. Coy, someone who doesnt know how to interact with hinata despite the fact that across all the manga, he never had problems to deal and talk with her.

Anyway, then we have Sakura insulting, because that what she did, him and saying that maybe "he doesnt know what love is" and Naruto also nods, to don't know what Love is. We are talking about the same Naruto, at age of 12, who made Zabuza Momochi cry

Then we have Sai, saying that when Naruto was whispering Hinata's name in dreams, Sai heard his sentimental spot, he didn't know Naruto had. And It was helping. Again, we are talking about the same naruto who said this to Sai

And I could quote many other scenes but this will be too long.

Then it takes just 30 minutes from the start of the movie to Naruto to "realize" with a epiphany of Jesus, that he ...loves hinata. What I see here is a glimpse of guilt tripping.

Other Inconsistence. they had to make Naruto fall in a Genjutsu -which theorically jinchuriki can not!- in order to let him realize Hinata was in love with him. Also, with the experience of Game of thrones ( i know, i know 2 totally different things but) but with the last shitty season they used the same resource that it was used here. Spit all the facts in your face, again and again just in case you dont forget that naruto HAS to fall in love with Hinata. Because we have this forced scenes between them all the damn time, at the expense of a Naruto totally ooc who can not interact properly with a mate that he knows since genin times. Also we have this recurrent scene from the academy Days, which was never shown on the manga, about some Iruka's class always repeating the quote "Whom would you spend your last day on earth?" Also, they made us recall a love confession that happened ALMOST 3 YEARS AGO, pain's arc, in which Naruto was absolutely indifferent about it until 699.

And it's not even that in these 2 years between movie and anime finale, that we see some approachment and more development between them (same with SS) because IS IN THE MOVIE, in this like 2/3 days that movie events takes place, where Naruto """realizes""" about Hinata's feelings. He literally just took days xD And it's inconsistent because with Sasuke he toook YEARS to set his true feelings AND EVEN THO when Sasuke asked him what A FRIEND means to him? He didn't know how to put that in words.

Following this logic, if a """friend""" took him all this time, i can imagine how it would be with the love of your life.

Also, worth to mention. All the Moon-symbolism stolen from Sasuke's figure. Across the last arc of manga we had a strong portrayal of how Naruto and Sasuke were Sun and Moon respectively.

* Another inconsistence, Naruto doing the ShadowClone jutsu at that short age. Yes, he doesn't make them properly but they were better that what we have seen in Naruto Episode 1. Also, in this movie he did 2 clones, mini clones, but they were capable of speaking, moving, and they were identical to naruto, the only flaw was the size. In episode 1, what he made was a really bad-almost dead-copy

And now some really random stuff that when i was watching this, i thought for a moment this was like Dragon ball.

-Why the fuck they had to fight ON THE SURFACE OF THE MOON? This was IDENTICAL to that episode from Power Rangers Red Forever where all the red rangers fight on the moon surface in order to defeat the bad guy.

I know this is fiction, and we are in fictional world. But naruto never went that far to talk about astronomical phenomena such as "THE MOON IS FALLING IN PIECES AND METHEORS ARE FALLING FROM THE SKY" and we.. We plan on destroying the moon.

Yes, I remember Tsukuyomi Infinite and stuff, but this is very different and came out SP asses.

In conclusion, I think i'm forgetting some things but anyway. This is a bad movie, what a surprise, not JUST because of the ship -i mean yes jeje- but because of all the inconsistences, the out of characterization, the rush on making naruto fall in love with hinata at expenses of some guilt, akwardness, and in 30 fucking minutes.

For being the only Naruto canon movie, it's very poor. I could quote Bonds #2 movie, Naruto's Death #1, Last Tower #4, even Road to ninja, as better material with better plots than this one.

Hinata's character reminds me of all those rich and proper upper class girls in my class in college who would keep shut in a class meant for discussions, and the moment you talked loudly and passionately about something you cared about, that rubbed someone the wrong way even slightly, they would intervene trying to pacify shit high handedly. Like woman, what are you even trying to de-escalate, are you even aware what the discussion is about here? Yeah we talking ethical implications of evil in a capitalist world or distribution of wealth or some such thing. So talk.

And when they did, all they would be able to do was stutter. Maybe you should have come prepared. No, nothing to contribute? Well, if you don't get shit, why so righteously stop me? Just because it made YOU uncomfortable?

Also, don't need to hear your embarrassingly platitudinal opinion on child soldiers in Somalia when you strut around in super expensive branded clothes made by kids in third world countries. You whining about hungry children when you openly enjoy everything privilege can offer you on a daily basis just seems a little off.

Hinata crying over Naruto's circumstances given that she KNOWS her own family practically owns slaves which she directly benefits from. Taunting Neji at the Chuunin exams even when he is desperately trying for her to back off so he doesn't end up hurting her, when she knows exactly why Neji feels this bitter. Where is the sympathy? Chuckle. Couldn't do shit for Naruto, couldn't do shit for Neji, couldn't even care for her own team mates. Had all the means but no spine. Yeah, some Shinobi.

Being a feminist also means rejecting female characterisations designed specifically from the perspective of misogynist men, Hinata is such a character and by no means am I going to excuse her behaviour just because I support feminist ideologies. Being a feminist doesn't mean excusing all female behaviour which is most definitely scummy. Being a feminist also means demanding better representation of women in media, those people who defend Hinata from accusations for being superficial, cowardly, a hentai bait and boy crazy, think twice. I know you don't get the intricacies of feminism but really, simply know that when you support female characters like Sakura and Hinata in world media and call yourself feminist for it, you are actually being the opposite. You are supporting the views of a misogynist man, not feminism. It's a shame that I even have to point the obvious out, but it goes to show what a lot of people in Naruto fandom understand by feminism. Boy this fandom is seriously besides the point.

Being reserved and shy does not equate to or justify being spineless. What a slap in the face for all the introverts out there.

Something that bothers me about Naruto the Last is that it doesn’t fully commit. As in, it’s not a movie about Naruto or Hinata.

The plot only concerns Hinata, the villain only cares about Hinata, the plot only seems to move forward when something happens to Hinata or she does something, and much of the story is from Hinata’s point of view. By all literary measurements, Hinata is the main character of the last, not Naruto. (I am not the first one to mention this.) However, the movie still wants us to think Naruto is the main character, so he’s the one who resolves the conflict and has an extremely forced “character arc”.

It’s like the movie couldn’t decide who should be the main character but is resolute in only one of them being the main character. Or maybe they just wanted to make a movie about Hinata but needed to justify using Naruto on the cover and in all the advertising.

Do I think that fixing this one problem would’ve made Naruto the Last a good movie? No. The plot is still ridiculous, Toneri is still both bland and underutilized, and the “love story” at the core of it is still laughable. But it wouldn’t be all that much worse than any of the other Naruto movies, save for maybe the fact that it’s canon.

What's downright disappointing and infuriating is that it was promoted as the final movie of the Naruto franchise that was supposed to be concluding the series; hence the name. They even promoted it with Sasuke and Kakashi when they barely appear. But this movie ended up being about Hinata. A fucking side character.

Boruto has a fanfiction level of writing. But the novels are even worse.

Is she for real? It's the pot calling the kettle black. Who has been a burden to everyone on this show?

She was a burden to her family and clan. She has been unable to keep up with her sister who is 5 years younger. And don't let her fans say she's an abused child - she literally has no scratches on her. You know who's been abused in her clan?

When her village was attacked and Naruto had to keep control of the Kyubi so as not to cause further destruction, what did she do?

And how does it end?

If Sakura hadn't been there, she would have died. And Sakura had other things to do than look after her, since she used to look after people in hospital. I'm the first to criticize Sakura but she did her best during Pein's attack and yet Naruto fans criticize her because out of desperation she called Naruto for help. The hospital had just been razed to the ground, why on earth wouldn't Sakura start crying in shock.

She took everyone's time for a declaration of love! Don't you think Gai's team had better things to do? Neji could have helped Shikaku locate Nagato.

She's a burden to her village.

She's a burden to her cousin, he died to protect her and what does she do?

She's a burden to everyone. What right has she to talk to Sasuke like that when he's done a thousand times more than her? Is she just jealous that her own husband would abandon her and her children overnight to go on an adventure with Sasuke?

Also, while she was playing damsels in distress in her film, who saved her father? Sasuke saved her father while she was busy sewing a scarf.

History repeats itself and it's horrible.

This post explains why Konan, Neji and Sasuke are the most tragic characters in my eyes.

Konan wanted to become for Naruto what Yahiko was for Nagato. Like Yahiko, she sacrificed herself so that another could bring peace, in vain.

A three-year-old Hinata had to be rescued. Neji's father died to protect the main branch, claiming to have chosen his own death even though he had no choice anyway.

Hinata had to be rescued (when I say she's a burden, I mean it). Neji died to protect the main branch, but claimed to have chosen to "die free".

I could go on for hours about how tragic Sasuke is, but I'll just make one point here.

Every time an Uchiha is introduced into the story, they are reduced to "best friends with a Senju or an Uzumaki" by the fans. They only care about them in terms of their relationship with the others. They only care about Mikoto because she could have adopted Naruto. They reduce Madara, Izuna, Obito and Sasuke to "evil boyfriends of the good guys".

The end of Naruto has this weird effect on me, it makes me love/tolerate any character who opposes Konoha in any way.

Because in the end, Konoha never pays for its crimes, so every time a character pisses them off, he gets a place in my heart.

On the other hand, every time a character who supports the shinobi system appears, even if he doesn't do much wrong, I automatically hate him.

Because I'm sorry, but if Kishimoto wanted me to care about these shinobi, he shouldn't have spent 700 chapters writing them as hypocritical mass murderers like Gaara, slave owners like Hinata, professional torturers like Ibiki and "Jungvolk" mentors like Gai/Kakashi/Asuma.

Obito is a difficult case, he's the worst human being in the series, but since he kills a lot of Konoha shinobi during the war, he gets bonus points.

Totally this. The ending made every single "villain" that fought Konoha 1000x more legit. Because it showed they were right. It showed there is no justice, no change, and validated every evil they did to oppose the system evidencing there was literally no other way than to dismantle it completely.

For example, you could tell me Sasuke was wrong to threaten Naruto, that he was innocent and obviously not to blame for what the corrupt leaders of Konoha did. I would have totally agreed with that. If it wasn't because Mr innocent good guy got to power, found the system actually benefited him, and changed nothing. So the only possible conclusion now is that, in retrospect, Sasuke was right to oppose Naruto and should have never let him be hokage.

I am sorry but justice is not served and oppressors do not change just because you ask so nicely. People don't peacefully give away privileges. Talk no jutsu is a pile of lies. Sasuke was right, Nagato was right. Konan was right. Neji was right.

I can't agree with Obito though. He is the greatest shit for massacring the Uchiha, never regretted a thing, and his redemption is another absurdity of the shitty ending where the moral of a character is measured by how well they bootlick Konoha.

Could you please explain to people how Sakura and Hinata, while different in personality, are both extremely selfish when it comes to what they want? Some people don’t understand that they are both fictional characters with no will other what what’s written for them, and character’s that are very much NOT girl bosses

Avatar

Sorry for the delay, but sure.

People in the fandom seem to have this idea that Sakura and Hinata's writing is different from one another because they have different personalities, Sakura being loud and reckless while Hinata being quiet and insecure. That being said both show from time to time that their behaviour is centered in their desire to be acknowledged by the boy the have a crush on, Sasuke and Naruto respectively. So basically all there is to each girl is "getting the guy", that's it, there's no more to it so you can't really separate Sakura and Hinata from those ships because those ships are integral to their characters. So when their only goal is getting the boy they want they will come out as selfish.

In the case of Sakura we see it more often because she's a more important character than Hinata who doesn't quite appear as much in the manga, which I assume is the reason why most people in the fandom think selfishness is a trait of Sakura while Hinata is the "selfless princess Hyuga" lol.

How do we find selfishness in Sakura? We see it first hand when she makes fun of Naruto for being an orphan in front of Sasuke, another orphan, trying to look cool. Sasuke ends up calling out her behaviour

We also see it when Sasuke is about to leave the village and she attempts to stop him, but ends up comparing the Uchiha massacre and the loneliness this caused in Sasuke to her not having her crush by her side and how she'd be equally lonely, thus minimizing Sasuke's pain and trauma.

Another instance is when Sasuke becomes a war criminal and a bounty is put on his head and everyone gives up on him including Sakura and excepting Naruto. Not only does she gives up on Sasuke and never attempts to research about the uchiha massacre and doesn't know "the truth about Itachi" but she also feels she's the one that must execute him because it's "her duty" to save him from a life of darkness because SHE loves him.

One last example is Team 7 fighting against Madara where Sakura charges against the enemy with no plan whatsoever because she wants to be on par of Naruto and Sasuke and for the latter to notice her, what happens then is she's stabbed and has to be saved by Sasuke and Naruto, oh! and Sasuke ignores her so she did all that for nothing.

Now, how is Hinata selfish? this can be harder to pinpoint because as I previously mentioned her shy quiet personality and lack of appearancs in the manga seem to conceal it. But we see the selfishness through Neji. The Hyuga clan practices slavery and Hinata at no single point in the manga challenges this status quo (and that's why forever and always good for Neji for beating her ass up). Some of her fans try to justify this by claiming Hinata can't change the way her clan by herself, mind you she's the fucking heiress. Ignore the ugly Saori edit

ewwwww

We also have the fight against Pain that everyone told her not to engage with because she'd do more danger than good but she simply HAD to let Naruto know she had a crush on him y'know?? she obviously loses without even scratching Pain and almost dies but in the process Naruto loses control of the kyubii and we're later told it was a miracle he didn't kill anyone.

But it's still fucked up to think what would have happened to Naruto's mental health had Hinata died, wow you told the dude you loved him and he inspired you to come and fight and is the reason you're doing all this and now you're dead, can you imagine the toll this would have taken on Naruto?

Lastly we have Neji die. Kishimoto did say in an interview on FujiTV back in 2014 he used Neji's death to bring Hinata and Naruto together in that hand holding scene

so basically Neji, a far more compelling character than Hinata ever was, dies in favor of an underwhelming underdeveloped ship (then Kishimoto tried to do damage control by naming Naruto and Hinata's kids in honor of Neji). We also see Hinata's reaction (or lack of) by holding Naruto's hand thinking about how warm it is while Neji's dead body is laying right besides them.

So yeah, both characters are entirely consumed by their superficial infatuation towards Naruto and Sasuke but never attempt to get to know them. On top of that, as ninjas they never really improve their skills, like we see Hinata and her special jutsu she developed be worth shit because she still couldn't attack Pain and also Sakura get the Byakugou seal then charging against Madara and getting stabbed without scratching him.
