Compu-Reign / Sky-Tron | Transformers Combiner Wars | | Hasbro | 2016 |

Notes: With the remaining four Technobots relegated to a gift set, this will be my canon. I’ll not let Scattershot be tossed aside. “What about Sky Lynx?” you ask. I’ll keep him as a singular entity. He doesn’t strike me as someone who’d want to merge with other bots anyway.

Here is the second part of my top 15 Transformers of 2015. This consists of my purchases, not Transformers released in 2015 (of which some did make the cut).

So, in no particular order, here are the Autobots: 1. Jazz (Robots in Disguise) 2. SG Stepper (Timelines) 3. Jazz (Q Transformers) 4. Smokescreen (Q Transformers) 5. Wheeljack (Q Transformers)

Up next: Group shots!

Packing up my Masterpiece Transformers gave me the shelf space I wanted to give my “Battle at Metroplex” a better vantage point in my man cave. If I come across any more like-scaled robo-changers in my tubs, I may add them to the mix. For now, I’m satisfied.

1. The main display. The Autobots defend Metroplex against the Decepticons, who’ve managed a foothold into Autobot City.

2. Optimus Prime courageously leads his Autobots into battle.

3. “Autobots, roll out!”

4. Chop Shop is giving Smokescreen difficulty.

5. Cosmos and Tailgate attempt to surprise the Decepticons.

6. Megatron leads his soldiers against the Autobots to conquer Metroplex and then Earth.

7. “Look!” “Centuritron…”

Fun with Smokescreen and Met

The idea for the top picture (and the variation below it) just popped into my head as I lay on the couch, sick with a cold for the third day. In the first pic, he looks like he’s being a dick. The second one maybe less so as Megaman is cheering him on and Rush looks ready to fetch.

I haven’t decided if the third pic is Smokescreen homaging the Lion King or if he’s trying to use Met to light our darkest hour. I guess it can be both.

Smokescreen (Transformers Masterpiece, Takara/Tomy, 2013)

Smokescreen has always been my favorite among the three Datsuns. This started with the original toys and eventually translated to the characters. His color scheme really pops as opposed to Prowl and Bluestreak, who admittedly were more general public versions of the car.

It is now 30 years later and when I had to choose which of the three Masterpiece Datsuns to get, it was a no brainer, although Prowl gave Smokescreen a run for his money with the whole table flipping thing. Smokescreen’s transformation is similar to the original toy, but with a number of additional steps that made me want to pull some hair out at first, especially in the legs and feet area. The result is both modes are beautiful. The articulation is superb, his colors pop, and I love the Devcon reference on his doors.

If you’re any kind of Transformers fan and on a limited budget, you owe it to yourself to pick up at least one of the three Datsun brothers. I hope to get Prowl and Bluestreak at some point, but I’m happy to own the best.
