This is is not what the people want
*percy jackson in olympus with the gods after luke killed himself*
hermes: so after the war i went back to new york
*may castellan, making cookies* i‘m watching you buuuuurn
No listen, casting Lin Manuel Miranda as Hermes is actually a genius move because Hermes is one of those characters that at the beginning makes you think "I dunno, I think I like this guy" but some time later it has swifted to "I don't know why I still like him but by GOD do I want to punch him in the face". And honestly, the "I like you" to "Punch" pipeline is the peak Alexander Hamilton experience
I'm sorry but I'm not going to be able to take those dramatic angsty scenes between Hermes and Percy in The Last Olympian seriously now. I just can't keep a straight face imagining Walker Scobell shouting at Lin Manuel Miranda for abandoning his kids
Luke Castellan found out that his daddy was a theatre kid running around on stage, singing about the American founders all dressed up, rather than taking care of him and his mom, and that was the last straw
i saw that lmm was cast as hermes and i have never made something so quickly
This man gets his ass beat by a 12 year old with daddy issues
It should go without saying that adults in the Percy Jackson fandom should not be picking on children for “not looking the part.” No one should be doing it, just to be clear, but there’s something extra awful about adults bullying kids.
Anyway, Annabeth’s defining characteristic isn’t being blonde. It’s her intelligence, wit, and resourcefulness. Similarly, Percy is defined by his humor, selflessness (or, you know, recklessness), and courage (and his tendency to be a little shit to immortal beings that could squash him like a bug), not by his hair and eyes.
In short, stop bullying children. It’s gross, it’s mean, and it’s utterly ridiculous.
Idk I'm happy for the actors but I've been seeing people not wanting Clarisse to be black since long before the show was announced seeing how as a character she embodies quite a few negative stereotypes for black girls.
Also they took the singular plus-sized character pre-HOO out so :/
No yeah 100% agree this isn't against Dior at all. I'm sure she'll do great with the role.
Oh yeah, I totally agree, I would have loved to see a plus sized Clarisse. And Dior would have made an incredible Silena! But I always hope for the best, so I hope it all goes well. Maybe they’ll let Dior bulk up for the role?
Well I also don't want to MAKE Dior do that, you know? There's a lot of body issues in Hollywood and amongst actors in general. Making actors gain or lose weight just isn't good for them :/ and I also don't want her to feel pressured even if not made to.
I'd rather them have cast someone who was plus-sized from the start. Then this wouldn't be an issue.
Oh completely agree there. Only if Dior WANTS to. Definitely don't want to pressure her into anything.

Gonna be watching the PJO series looking at Percy and saying "Go white boy go"
Since three new cast members of the PJO tv show have been revealed, which you can read about in Rick’s blog post, I wanted to take a minute and share my thoughts on this casting.
Disclaimer: THIS IS NOT A HATE POST ON THE ACTORS THEY CHOSE. I believe Rick and the people working on the show when they said they cast talented actors who can play their roles well, and it’s great they get a chance to work on a project like this. They don’t deserve to be bullied for taking a job. Any criticism in this post is directed at the people who made the final casting decisions behind the scenes.
Nancy (Olivea Morton): Perfectly fine. I have no complaints there.
Clarisse (Dior Goodjohn): First and foremost, I had hoped Clarisse would be played by a plus sized actress, which Dior is not. I hope they will at least allow her to put on muscle in future seasons, but in season 1, it doesn’t look like we will be getting the buff Clarisse a lot of us had hoped for. Second, Dior is 15. I don’t remember if Clarisse’s age is specified in the books, but I had imagined her being closer to Percy and co. in age. If she was older, maybe 13 at the most. It bothers me cuz…would a high school sophomore really bother with extensively bullying a middle schooler? I know Camp Half-Blood is different, but still. It’s bad enough that Luke is a grown ass man fighting middle schoolers 💀 like please. She just seems a little too old to me, idk. That is very much a personal nitpick, though. And third is, yes, her being black (and read the rest of this before you come at me). Now I am not black, so I cannot speak to the community’s struggles in the way black creators and fans can. However, I have seen many black content creators discuss negative stereotypes of black people and black women in other contexts, and it seems that Clarisse’s character may fall into those negative stereotypes: angry, being a bully, being described as “ugly” in the books, etc. Again, I am not trying to erase the voices of black fans here: if you want to learn more about how the black community is reacting to Clarisse’s casting, please listen to/read content from black creators and fans. I’m simply trying to point out, as a non-black person who is aware of some of the issues black people face when being portrayed in media, that Clarisse’s casting could be construed as problematic. As such, I am somewhat wary of this casting decision. No, I am not angry about it, but it does make me raise an eyebrow.
Luke (Charlie Bushnell): I … really don’t know how I feel about Luke’s casting. There’s nothing wrong with it, it just … feels off to me. I don’t think it’s the fact that he’s conventionally attractive—I had already expected that because number one, it’s hard to find a conventionally unattractive actor in Hollywood, and number two, Luke is described as very good looking in the books. It was something he used to his advantage. I think it’s because he just looks…wimpy? I don’t know if that’s the word, but he doesn’t exactly have the intimidating presence to be Luke imo. But, of course, I’m only judging him off of looks, and that has to do more with his acting abilities. I hope that once we get to Luke being a villain, his talent shines through and he’s able to give a convincing performance.
At the end of the day, I still think this will be a good adaptation. I believe Rick when he says he is very happy with the actors they chose, and that he believes they will do his characters justice. I also think that everyone involved in decisions like these is trying to be more inclusive, more representative, and more aware of the current climate. However, no one is perfect, and criticism can still be earned. Mistakes can be made. And I believe it is perfectly fine to be excited for the show while still being able to criticize it.
EDIT: OH MY GOD I JUST SAW ANOTHER USER POST ABOUT THE FACT THAT IN SEA OF MONSTERS, CLARISSE SAILS TO THE SEA ON A CONFEDERATE SHIP…STAFFED BY CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS. CLARISSE. WHO IS NOW PLAYED BY A BLACK GIRL. AFSYSHSUSHSJSHSHSHHHS OH N O
