It sucks that the most fun I had this season watching an episode was when it leaked unannounced...when the fans of the show who love it aren't haven't fun that's when you know it's an issue.

Petition to start tagging Gloob spoilers separately. Most spoilers im okay with but gloob takes it to a ridiculous extreme and ruins the fun. Something like #GloobLeaks

I agree

I was in the ml waiting gang, which basically means I spent 4 months waiting for Gabriel Agreste (episode 9) to air before watching the rest of the season in order and I spent that time avoiding spoilers constantly, with so many blocked tags you couldn't count them with all your fingers and toes put together

but you know what? these 4 months of constant avoidance were WAY easier than when I came back to watching the episodes as they aired and I had to put up with the unending new gloob spoilers and trailers that showed 90% of the important scenes from each episode

you can also really see a difference when you compare the tfou trailers and gloob ones. the former make you intrigued and excited about the episode, the latter anxious and in agony about spoilers (or at least, that's how I perceive them). they also kind of spoil all the fun since they show you all the big moments

I wish zag etc. could do something about it, but I really don't think they can. the most they ever did about releases was stopping Plusplus from airing the finale way too early

Basically, I agree with bushy that as a fandom, we should all strive to make this place safer and fun for everyone, by tagging spoilers well and being especially careful about the gloob ones since they're usually really big and can even be qualified as leaks given how much they give out about the episodes

Amphibia fandom : Yo! Disney fucked up and released the episode online way before the TV program date. Please don’t watch the leaked episode or if you do watch it, at least don’t publish anything about it online out of respect Matt Braly and his team and the fans wanting to enjoy it on TV!

ML fandom (as of S4): Yo! We got the first part of the finale earlier thanks to Spectrum who accidentaly released it! Also, we dug and found Penalteam for you guys. LEAK US STRIKE BACK NOW! Also, f*ck the ML Team. How dare they make us wait?

For real. I haven’t watched the latest 2, and while I understand why people wouldn’t want to wait, I do think it’s kind of sad that the fandom is (unintentionally or not) encouraging places like Gloob to air out of order just to be the “first” and get the majority of viewers

Obviously, with Spectrum it was an accident, but that kinda makes it worse, as OP said. I remember when the writers asked fans to wait before watching the S3 finale. I don’t think anyone who did watch it without seeing Chat Blanc first could truly appreciate those episodes and the echoes to Chat Blanc. But even aside from that, it was frustrating as a fan to be forced to avoid all fandom spaces because spoilers were everywhere. In the end, my efforts were wasted anyway because I had the finales spoiled by a commenter on one of my fics 😔

Like, I get it. You want to know what happens. The episodes are out anyway, so why wait? But just put yourself in the writers’ shoes for a moment. Imagine you wrote a fic and someone got a hold of it and released chapters out of order. You could plead all you like for people to wait and read in order, because you know they won’t be able to appreciate it properly, but people don’t care. They complain about having to wait, complain when they don’t like something shown in a trailer, or when things don’t make sense (usually because they don’t have proper context). And then they talk about it everywhere so that even those who want to wait and enjoy things in the proper order can’t have that experience

I really feel for the writers. I don’t care if you don’t like Thomas, just remember that he is not the only writer, and this situation will be incredibly frustrating for them. It’s not their fault that things are aired out of order. It’s not their fault when trailers twist things to emphasize stuff that is basically nothing once you watch the actual episode, or give away too much. All they’re doing is their job and the rest is out of their hands. That’s why it’s so important for fans to do their part too

I mean, I’m so glad I waited to watch s4 in order. It sounds like my experience was so much nicer — I could appreciate the humour more, the continuity, and how things were built up. And at the end of the day, while you might not care, there are those who do

So yes, it is your choice if you want to go ahead and watch things as they’re released or leaked, no matter how out of order. But please remember that is not how the show is supposed to be watched — things will not always make sense, will seem lacking or reveal things you can’t appreciate properly without context. And yeah, please use spoiler tags and be careful of what you say in asks, comments etc. because some people will choose to wait and won’t want to be spoiled

The ML fandom is like this and then we have the audacity to complain that the animation for “Qilin"—the episode, remember, that Winny told us a while back they expected it would be finished last, and one that at that time had four unaired episodes that were supposed to follow it—looks like the animators could have used a few more weeks to get it right.

So I feel like what’s happening to Marinette in the Ladybug fandom is the same thing that happened to Usagi in the Sailor Moon fandom in the early 00s.

Both are heroines with relatable, human flaws. Marinette is a basketcase of anxiety with a healthy dose of Overthinking and Cringe, and Usagi is a crybaby ditz who falls over her own feet and is Really Great at eating and sleeping. Both are WONDERFUL heroines. They get shit done, they’re badass, and above all else, they do not have to be perfect for it. They’re a giant fuck you middle finger in the face of sexism and productivity culture, saying that no, you do not have to check every box and it is OK who you are, you’re extraordinary the way you are. That femininity overall is great and that being an embarrassingly crushing teenage girl is great, too. These characters stand for embracing the fact that people aren’t machines and they aren’t obligated to play the role that society desperately wants them to.

And yet there are pockets of fandom for both - in this example with Marinette, in the 00s with Usagi, of largely young female writers who get Very Angry at both these characters and write these rigid gender expectations and perfectionist hegemonic role expectations they themselves suffer under onto these characters: Marinette gets her “shit together” and banishes her relatable and adorable crushing on Adrien and all that entails and becomes Responsible Perfection ™, and Usagi cuts her silly hair, gets a tutor and aces all her classes and also never falls on her butt or cries again and becomes Responsible Perfection, too. All in the name of “growing up” or “being more mature” as if that means you leave your personality at the door of a magic threshold someday and what remains of you is a cardboard ad of adulthood that displays only obligation, productivity, conformity and societal norms. In this process of “getting their shit together”, both characters lose everything that make them more human (including their relatability and everything about the character that is so, so healthy as a role model), and instead they become a stencil of external expectations.

And that’s sad. Because that means these harmful scripts are so deeply internalized that they are seen as obligations not only for the writer, but also for the character. So deeply ingrained that apparently there are young authors out there that get ANGRY at these characters when they don’t perform these rigid shackles of expectations they themselves suffer from.

(Good news, as the Sailor Moon fandom aged, Usagi was eventually largely embraced for exactly who she was, and it’s now a rare egg to see her getting changed in fics, as her quirks are finally largely loved and appreciated. Here’s to hoping the same will happen in the Ladybug fandom as the fandom base ages, too.)

when did fandom decide to stop tagging their sentiadrien negativity? when i’m looking in the tag i’m not looking to see your 3k word essay on how horrible it is. like if you wanna tag it #sentiadrien that’s fine, but please also use one of the anti-sentiadrien tags. i tag my sentiadrien posts for the benefit of the people that hate it, why can’t y’all give us the same courtesy?

this is so frustrating because i only see folks who like the theory being kind and conscientious of folks that don't but those that don't like the theory are excluded and dont need to? what the hell is this hypocritical bull

Miraculous Writers: We are going to write an episode that invokes feelings of feeling useless, and wanting to feel important. Adrien will learn that both he as Adrien and he as Chat are one in the same, that both his identities can exist together. It will also that Ladybug and Chat do have issues that they continue to need to work out, but both feel that the relationship is important and worth working out and together.

Fans: PAJAMAS!

As someone who's been in fandoms of all kinds for a long time, the experience of being an ML fan is extremely unique.

It's legitimately amazing how, like the main characters in the show, we too share the same one braincell at times sdfdhjsfhds
