what would you have me do?

A misconception about the Christian faith that a lot of people (including Christians!) really struggle with is that forgiveness = no consequences for your sins. That's what people think Christianity preaches, and it is a major hurdle for them. They think that if a serial killer genuinely repents, that means that Christianity says they are able to get off scot-free with their crimes, or that it means they should be let out of jail, etc.

That is not true.

There are quite a few figures in the Bible who committed acts of evil, and repented for it. And God heard them! But oftentimes, their sins caused catastrophic damage to those around them, and they had to live (and die) with what they caused. The entirety of the Old Testament is a domino-effect of this happening over and over.

If someone genuinely repents before God, the forgiveness they receive from God is a perfect forgiveness. But we live in a fallen world affected by sin. Sin has consequences. Other people are often hurt by our sins, even if we aren't aware of it.

We have to live with the consequences of our actions in this world. Part of repentance requires accepting those consequences, otherwise it's not genuine.

“…to me” is one of the most powerful disclaimers we have on here… is this character analysis accurate? debatable. but it’s real… to me.

it’s really interesting seeing how people are apparently looking at anakin’s rejection to the title of master through his view point. they hate the council for denying him what they—and he—believes is his right. he wants the title without the work. it is already well established that he is an incredibly violate individual. he is consistently scolded and reminded by obi-wan that he does not heed the jedi way, most often when he breaks the rules for his own self-interest. he does not have the emotional maturity, nor the self-restraint literally every person on the jedi council has, to be a proficient jedi master. he wants it, sure, but he has done nothing to earn it. yes, he’s won battles. yes, he has been an immense advantage to the republic. however, physical strength, power and victories in battle do not make someone more deserving for the title. his reaction to being denied shows just how unready he would be. it was exactly why they denied him the title in the first place. no, the jedi didn’t hate him. no, they weren’t out to get him. they were, rightfully, worried and skeptical because of his very explicit attachments to those around him, his recklessness. let’s not this whole thing was a ploy by palpatine to simply alienate anakin even more. instead of getting upset at the jedi council for rightfully not making anakin a jedi master, let’s remember they’re not his enemy. they’re his comrades. they’ve fought beside him, they try to teach him. i would think the man who horrifically groomed anakin, isolated him and used his genuine fears and extreme traumas as a way to serve his own agenda would be seen as the enemy. but, every time i look at a post relating to anakin and the jedi council, they’re the enemies. they denied him. they’re evil. they were holding him back. it’s just very odd.

Anytime you finish lotr or the hobbit it’s the loneliest most gut wrenching desolate feeling in the world lmao. 100% meant this to sound that dramatic because it’s true. Frodo sailing off or Bilbo letting Gandalf in the door and it showing the lonely mountain map. My heart sinks every time.

I love hotel breakfasts. You have shambling zombies who've managed to scrape together half a braincell, the morning people who've already done their yoga, and the most elegantly put together women you've ever seen, all staring with the same vague confusion at the unholy selection of food on offer.

Here’s the thing, the name is now Jeffrey. I run science shows for kids, and at the start I get them to name a prop character. 80% of the time, they name it Jeffery. I have no clue why. My co-workers have observed the same phenomenon. 

I now carry around a laminated sign that says Jeffrey, and pull it out when a kid says it. And thinking I’m some kind of psychic, they loose their shit.

once when i was in middle school we had a substitute teacher one day and one of the kids in my class decided to convince the sub that his name was bob. "why does it say this other thing on the attendance sheet" "i don't know it's messed up but my name is bob" "class is this true" "yes literally everyone calls him bob"

now, this was a fairly long-term sub, you have to understand. i think he was there for two weeks?

when our teacher finally came back, he had us all reading something quietly while he looks through the sub's notes. after a few minutes we hear a sudden shuffling of papers and a bewildered "who the fuck is bob?"
