obsessed with mass market paperbacks. their pleasing rectangular proportions. how they fit badly in a hoodie pocket so you can drag them around everywhere with you like a temporary little buddy. the way they fit in your hand because they're MADE for human hands and not as bookshelf decoration. the way the pages feel when you riffle them gently with your thumb. How pristine and crisp they look when you get them and how creased and folded they look when you're done, even if you try to be nice to them. how that wear is okay, how that's correct actually, because they're made with the philosophy that books aren't meant to be PRETTY, they're meant to be read. that little ripple new ones get on the left side from where you hold them when you're reading, the way the ripple only goes as far as you've read, because u change stories by reading as they are changing you. how you can find thousands of these creased and folded and loved little dudes in every thrift store and used book shop and neighborhood library and you can instantly see the ones that someone carried around in a backpack for weeks or read to pieces or gave up on halfway through because they wear being read like fresh snow wears footprints. I love these poorly made, subpar little rectangles so much. truly the people's books.
You gotta write for funsies sometimes. Everything doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. Like. Who cares if it’s a little silly it is made out of love
Din stans angry that he no longer has the Darksaber is so funny because do you not know the character at all? He never wanted it. The amount of times people project their own wants onto a character and then get mad when they don’t get what they wanted, completely disregarding the actual wants of the character or what would actually make sense. If any of you genuinely thought Din wanted to rule Mand’alor you’re kidding yourselves and you should reevaluate how well you understand his character.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!
I'm not mad that he doesn't have it anymore, I'm disappointed at a narrative arc that was introduced and not explored in a worthwhile way. Why have it go to him and make it seem like it would be a Thing and then not do anything interesting with it? He didn't go through any real changes as a result of gaining it or other people reacting to him having it; he would have gone to the living waters to be redeemed with or without it. He started not wanting it and trying to give it to Bo katan, he ends (so far) not wanting it and gives it to BK on a technicality. He didnt do anything interesting or funny to try to ditch it or the title. He didn't even see the mythosaur like BK did; it was a plot cul-de-sac that was basically pointless, that's the annoying thing.
Din having the Darksaber wasn't for Din's character arc, it was for Bo-Katan's. Din never had the Darksaber for the purpose of him "doing anything with it" or growing as a character. Bo-Katan had to be acknowledged as a leader without the Darksaber for Mandalorians (and the audience) to understand that the Darksaber is not actually important. Din literally SAID that to Bo this week: "The Darksaber doesn't mean anything to me and my people. It only meant something to the old Death Watch relics because they had strong ties to Clan Vizsla.
The writers are making a very clear point here: some Mandalorians are stuck on signs (i.e. Mythosaur) and symbols (i.e. Darksaber), but that isn't what makes a leader worthy. Din didn't become a better leader because he had the Darksaber. It was what Din saw in Bo-Katan's heart that made her a worthy leader to him. He gave it to her because she's already worthy in his eyes, and if the others require her to carry some old relic in order to acknowledge what he can plainly see, then it belongs with her. It certainly wasn't doing anything to help him.
Whats really upsetting was that there was no closure if Din had to leave. Bo and Din's relationship was transformative. They changed each other for the better because of their bond. Grogu was essential also. Bo took on a motherly role. Grogu can be bought for food but he sometimes gravitated more towards Bo when Din was there. This trio had one of the most compelling relationships in the show and had a tighter bond than anyone else. They are both fully formed characters that were not there to be love interests. They just naturally came together.
Din has had goodbyes with almost every other characters like Mayfield, Cara, Omera, Cobb, Ahsoka, Boba, Fennec, etc. He has spent more on screen time with Bo than any of these characters. Their screentime has been meaningful and they seemed like a clan of 3.
Din's pledge was so beautiful and romantically coded in every way. I don't care what anyone says, it was not the same as Boba. But what is the point of saying you will serve someone until their song is written just to leave. A person's song encompasses their lives.
All we got was a simple nod at the baptism. Why was Axe leading the chant at her ceremony and not Din? I think Din, Grogu, and Bo deserved a moment. Something touching where they thank each other for being better people. Maybe promise to visit often. Even just a hug like Rey/Finn/Poe at the end if TROS would have been great. I hope they address this next season. Bo just seems so alone again because while she is with her people, Din was the only person to see her for who she was.
some of you think ‘nuanced’ only means ‘morally grey’ and I’m here to tell you that actually straight up good characters can still be nuanced and unapologetically evil characters can still be nuanced. the character doesn’t have to be an anti hero or morally dubious to have depth. they don’t even have to feel sorry about their crimes to have depth.
