Cannot Stress Enough how important it is to read Howl’s Moving Castle written by Diana Wynn Jones immediately after watching Howl’s Moving Castle directed by Hayao Miyazaki. When he made the movie he was of course upset with war and thus included it in the film, but you gotta understand. You really Gotta Understand. Every time in the movie where Howl turns the door dial black to travel to an absolutely hellish warscape? You know where that same dial takes him in the book? The Real World Country Of Wales

"I'm a hater." "I love hating things." Cool. Good for you. I'm a lover. I love finding the simple joy of life. I love being caught up in the whimsey. I love laughing at dumb jokes and smiling when something even vaguely cute happens and telling people I love them as often as possible and reading dumb books with a lot of heart and eating fun food for the simple change of pace. I love engaging with things critically but, ultimately, still finding the wonderful, happy, lovely things about it. The world can be cruel and dark and mean and hateful and, doggone it, I am going to mine every ounce of joy out of it that I can find and then I am going to inflict that joy on other people.

No but the fact that Eowyn probably went most of her life without a female figure to look up to, so she looked up to her king uncle, her prince cousin, and her soldier brother. The brother who was admired by all but could easily die in battle, the cousin who did die in battle too soon, the uncle who perished in battle as well. And the fact that Eowyn looked at these men that she loved, resenting her own isolated status and decided that that was what she wanted. The glory of war, a hero’s death. And how she watched her cousin and uncle die, and after nearly dying herself found a man who was so much like her and knew that living humbly was just as honorable as dying in battle, and together they healed each other and she became a healer for her people, setting down her sword and viewing her new role as woman in a different light.

To continue on with FrankLuna, I imagine that Luna becomes a member of the Young Avengers and immediately befriends Kate, America, and Cassie but that's beside the point. The Future Foundation and YA team up for a mission and Frank just begins subtly flirting with Luna. Not too much, but at the right times.

Cue protective cousins Tommy and Billy

Oh, I applaud you. This is wonderful. I love this so much. This is very, very good.

I feel like on the Young Avengers Luna would be like "everyone's little sister" type. (Except with Billy and Tommy because she insists she's really older because she was born first technically.) Cassie, America and Kate would just take her under their wings and be the best older sisters ever. It would be wonderful.

And of course Billy and Tommy would be protective cousins. This is wonderful. I want to write a little fanfic, but I have so much I want to write it's a problem. If only I could write faster lol

Estelle was 13 when Percy stumbled into the apartment, bloodied and bruised.

She had been watching TV in the living room when she heard the sound of a key being turned in the lock. But something was off. It took far too long, the lock clicking and scraping awkwardly, as if the owner was fumbling with the key, struggling to fit it into the lock. Percy must have been leaning against the door for support because when it finally opened, he was knocked off balance and had to catch himself on the door frame.

Stella ran to him immediately, helping him sit at the kitchen table. He looked worse than she had ever seen him. Percy had encountered plenty of other monsters since the one she witnessed when she was 7, but he had always gotten away relatively unscathed, save for a few scratches. But this… she couldn't imagine what could have done this to him.

Peter Maximoff headcannons because im bored and I just love my boy so much:

There are pillows+blankets thrown seemingly randomly around the manor at all times in case (and it’s very often true) Peter forgets to eat for more than three hours, which, because he has a SUPER heightened metabolism will cause his body to just shut down if he doesn’t get the correct calorie intake with very little room for error. Hence after the third or fourth time Charles got a student sprinting into his office in a panic explaining how “Mr. Peter just collapsed sir! We don’t know what’s wrong!” He consulted with the staff and decided to put “nap spots” all around the house in case Peter had an accident and needed to sleep somewhere comfortable until Hank had measured whatever was wrong.

Conversely this has led to the X-Men taking tallies for how many times they’ve had to catch Peter when he stood up too fast or skipped his required afternoon snack. Charles caught him twice, once when they first met in the museum (Peter hadn’t had time to grab breakfast before the big jailbreak) and again during a meeting, Peter had been unusually quiet during the whole of the meeting and kept looking around with glazed eyes. Charles had mentally asked him whether he was alright, Peter had merely nodded and looked back down. When the meeting ended Peter had stood up and his knees immediately buckled, Charles had only caught him because he’d been sitting right next to him at the time.

Kurt caught him once (he had nearly fallen off the roof during a party because he’d passed out too close to the edge, Kurt caught him before he’d passed the second floor)

Storm once barely saved him by wildly grabbing the edge of his harness as his eyes rolled back in his head at the top of the main staircase. (She NEVER let him live that one down, and every time he scaled the stairs afterward she’d ask him whether he was planning on fainting again or whether he could go up the stairs like a big kid now) He usually responds by snorting and/or flipping her off.

Jean caught him once in the garden, he had been walking across the grounds with a group of first-years talking about the school when he had trailed off and she very clearly heard him murmur “oh, shit.”

He had stumbled forward, already completely unconscious and she had caught him with her powers, careful to not let his head hit the stone slates on the path. There were no major injuries, just a headache and a gaggle of terrified first years. (Peter had insisted on seeing them when he woke up a few moments later, Hanks “nutrient IV” already hooked up to his arm. He didn’t want them to be scared, they should know he was fine.) Jean had just laughed and told him he could see them when Hank had finished running the medical diagnostics for todays “nap attack.”

Scott’s only incident was early on in their friendship, Peter had been walking down the hallway the opposite direction as Scott. They’d nodded, exchanged a quick high-five and continued walking, or at least Scott had. Peter had crumpled backwards into Scott’s back, knocking them both to the ground and knocking the wind out of Scott. “Musta been some high-five” Scott had joked later in the medbay, Hank was clucking indignantly at Peter for skipping his lunch. Peter had smiled apologetically at Scott, and something in his heart fully went out to this weird, weird kid.

Raven had caught him only once, and it had been more of a redirection than a proper interception. It had been during a training session, she was standing next to him in line when he’d simply vaulted sideways, she had automatically rolled to the side, leaving him to fall to the ground, his head rolling listlessly to the side as Kurt rushed forward. “She didn’t even TRY to catch you man” Scott had howled next to him later that day. Peter had crossed in arms in front of him in annoyance “Yeah, she shouldn’t HAVE too! Once I get this sorted out I swear to you-“ He had been interrupted by a packet of peanut butter crackers sailing through the air to strike him in the side of the head. Hank had merely gestured at them and smirked.

With Erik it was…different. He’d arguably caught Peter the most times out of anybody, always catching onto the metal in his harness or jacket with his powers before the kid fell. But the first time it had been quite different from any of the other incidents. For one thing, they had been in the middle of an actual mission when it had happened.

In Peter’s defense, he really HADN’T skipped any meals that day. None. He just wasn’t expecting to have as much strain put on him as he ended up getting, namely in the shape of 20-odd men armed with automatic rifles opening fire on his team, no, FAMILY.

He had acted instantly, all Erik saw was a blur darting all around then, little more than a haze as it circled them. He heard the gunshots, felt the metal cutting towards them, he also felt the bullets being knocked out of the air one by one, falling to the ground with a sound like pebbles on sheet metal.

When it was over there Peter had stood, his face grey and pale, wheezing slightly as he stood there. On his cheek was a single crimson-red line that leaked a thin stream of blood that ran down his face into his uniform. He had raised a shaking hand and touched the wound, barley reacting as he made contact. He raised his now-bloody hand and his gaze shifted unsteadily back to Erik, a hollow smile spreading across his face.

“…guess I missed one, huh?”

Then Peter Maximoff had crumpled to the ground lifelessly in front of Erik’s eyes.

Erik had caught him of course, he stopped his upper body from contacting the ground, grabbing onto the metal he had never been more thankful for in Peter’s harness. Peters head had tilted listlessly backwards at the motion, his face uncharacteristic devoid of any emotion.

It made Erik feel strangely ill, seeing Peter like this, still.

Peter was NEVER still, at least not completely. He was perpetually bouncing his leg or excitedly talking about whatever new thing he’d discovered in the world, fidgeting mindlessly with his hands as he spoke or running his fingers through his hair. Now he was doing none of those things and the only indication Erik had that he was even alive was the dull rasping of Peter’s breathing.

When Peter woke up in the medbay, surrounded by machines and IV’s and scared-looking mutants Erik wasn’t among them. He never spoke to Peter about that day again. Merely nodding to him stiffly in the halls when he saw him. Never exchanging more than a few words. Nonetheless, sometimes when Peter was blinking blearily awake, the familiar pinch of an IV needle embedded in his left arm, he’d feel a weak tugging at the necklace he always wore around his neck. And though he never asked or told anyone about it, Peter always suspected he knew who was checking in on him in their own strange way.

The Lego Movie was really good actually

reasoning:

  • accurately predicted the present lurid hellscape of cheerful corporate brainwashing, consumption-based identity, and vapid, monopolized entertainment more precisely than any other dystopian media that I can think of
  • is an accessible introduction to cosmic horror. The main character describes "the man upstairs" as having "hands like giant pink sausages, like eagle talons mixed with squid," a description reminiscent of a human description of an eldritch horror. In-universe, the "real" human world is a reality that is so much higher and more complex than the characters' world that they can't normally perceive it—because their universe and its rules are simplified imitations of a larger "real" world. Objects (non-lego objects, like q-tips and nail polish remover) from the "human" world are treated as "relics" that have unnatural powers, because they operate by the rules of the "higher" reality—giving them the ability to do things like erase a side character's face. When Emmett falls into the abyss (off the table where the Legos are being kept) toward the end of the movie, he briefly understands that he's a Lego, which messes him up a little.
  • it's very meme-able and multiple times I have wanted to use a screencap as a reaction image but been unable to find a suitable screencap

I’d like to add one because I love this movie

  • Is incredibly fast paced so always has your attention. And by fast paced I mean most animated kids movies has a major turning point roughly 20 minutes in. The Lego Movies major turning point is just under 7 minutes in. SO much happens and it’s great.
  • The idea that creation and art is what connects us not mindless consumption spoon fed to us by big corporations
  • Tells kids to draw outside of the lines!!! Make something stupid make something fun. You don’t need to practice and be “good” at something because we all have ideas it’s about letting yourself explore them (double decker couch is stupid and wonderful)
  • Batman
  • Specifically made Lego's most profitable demographic (perfectionist adults) the antagonists of the story instead of making a kids movie that panders to parents with jokes that go over kids' heads
  • Introduced the microgenre of lego movies that way in lego batman they could just say time to masterbuild and we all know what they're talking about
  • Great introduction to common tropes such as the layman thrust into adventure, wise wizard teacher, and general hero's journey arcs
  • Wildstyle was attractive to both Batman and Emmet while also being her own character and having agency and conflict and flaws
  • Unikitty's sudden anger at the very end also gave a for the most part cutesy and comedic side character power and depth

Unikitty's character arc is so good as a child- accessible way to show the importance of embracing scary and negative emotions in life and in art

According to her, Cloudcuckooland is a place where "any idea is a good idea, except the NOT happy ones. Those you stuff down deep inside where you'll never, ever, EVER find them."

Unikitty, with increasing desperation, repeats the mantra of "just stay positive!" to herself when terrible things happen, like the raid of Cloudcuckooland that destroys her home. She tries to repress and avoid her negative feelings—until at the end she flies into a destructive rage as all the negativity she's been stopping herself from feeling roars out. Her "angry kitty" side isn't evil; it's the result of Unikitty's unhealthy way of dealing with her feelings

Season 1 of The Clone Wars does not get nearly enough credit, yeah, the animation is a little stiffer and it doesn’t have as many Event Arcs, but it knew exactly what it was about.  Every other episode is about Anakin putting a thousand people at risk because he won’t wipe his droid’s mission memory or Anakin becoming so obsessed and distracted by Ahsoka and Padme being infected that he risks the mission or Ahsoka struggling with leaving Anakin behind because she needs to leave him to get him help faster and admitting to Aayla that she was right about it. Then every other episode is about atrocity after atrocity that the Separatists commit, they use the Twi’leks as human shields, they release biochemical warfare on Naboo, they enslave the Twi’leks, they deliberately target civilian villages with only mostly women and children left, they loot planets and then destroy them when they’re about to lose to the Republic, they test defoliating weapons on civilian targets, like you look at what they’re doing and it’s clear that they’re not just wanting to leave the Republic, but that they’re committing these horrific acts on any planet in the galaxy that doesn’t bow to them. Also, season 1 has Obi-Wan and Anakin ganging up on Dooku Mean Girls style and then chains the three of them together and nothing in all of Star Wars has ever been funnier than “Shhh, Anakin, control your insolence, the Count is cOnCEnTrATinG” and “You should be more patient, Master. After all, the Count is an elderly gentleman and doesn’t move like he used to.” and “I would kill you both right now if I did not have to drag your dead bodies.” Season 1 of The Clone Wars is great and deserves more love.

it's not about characters getting to yell at each other 👏🏼 it's not about who's right and wrong 👏🏼 it's not about characters getting what they "deserve" 👏🏼 it's about each of them growing to better understand the other's fears and point of view 👏🏼 it's about them knowing they'll be able to fix things between them because above all else they care about each other 👏🏼 it's about how even when things are strained between them they will always be there when the other needs them 👏🏼 because that's how love works 👏🏼 oh my god 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
