A school project: book cover redesign for Heroes of Olympus
Basically is just me trying to make fanarts for pjo during classes
In the same vibe as Percy choking Akhlys, may I suggest :
The big 3 are terrifying, and I wish we would've seen them (others than Percy) being more op. Cmon Rick, show us reasons the gods are afraid of them !
Things Percy Jackson remembers in Son of Neptune:
sometimes i forget that percy’s base reaction every time he sees a god is to fight them. just right off the bat he’s like “oh you think you’re something special?” and then he wins.
12 year old percy 🤝 16 year old percy
seeing the god of war and wanting to fight
he saw Mars and said “you look familiar, post up”
he literally said “i know a bitch when i see one”
Best part about this moment is that he had his memories robbed so he doesn’t know who he is where he is or what he’s doing but he knows a bitch when he sees one
for some reason reading chalice of the gods made me think of this rlly dumb hc about like, kids of the big three being really "stating the obvious" bc they think its funny
the ground is literally shaking and Percy is like 'guys my dad was rlly angry i think there's going to be an earthquake'
Nico and Hazel looking at the skeleton of someone who's been gone for 200+ years like "Now, we are the experts, so don't be embarrassed for not noticing, but that guy is dead"
Thalia and Jason moments after a huge crack of lightning or when it's already pouring like "Call it child of Zeus intuition but I think it's going to storm"
i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

I have always thought this was so weird because the whole Tartarus thing basically sums it all.
Percy is so loyal he literally fell into Tartarus with Annabeth. Annabeth, who was being pulled in in part thanks to her own hubris.
And then, Percy's loyalty, his desire to do anything for his friends, also helps him survive.
That's the fun about fatal flaws in modern fiction, they are two sides of the same narrative coin.
one of my favorite Percy headcanons is that even after he no longer has the Curse of Achilles, the small of his back is still his Achilles' Heel. It won't kill him but it's still his weakest point.
Like, he hates if anybody even brushes against there unless it's Annabeth because it's too sensitive and it basically physically hurts him. He has to be the little spoon Always because it makes him feel like his back is protected. If anyone hits him in the small of his back even without a lot of force, like a friendly slap on the back, he will crumple like wet paper. His friends poke him in the small of his back just cause every time he will immediately stumble and start complaining at them and they find it funny. If someone actually smacks him in the back with any amount of real force he will be on the ground immediately and stay there. If he gets actually scratched there he will be bedridden for days. The curse may be gone but he will always carry it with him.
one of your old posts made me realise jason should be like 13/14 in HoO, which gave me the HC that Percy&Annabeth are the oldest of the seven&their new friend-parents(also Percy now accidentally fulfills the leader&the father aspect of being a king, mini-kronos take 45)
Percy and Annabeth absolutely should’ve been the oldest and the leaders of the group just because of their experience, age, and maturity. Percy is a natural leader even if he doesn’t necessarily like to be in charge. Annabeth is skilled at command herself, and excels at strategy. Annabeth can be awkward with people but is good at teaching, and Percy is good with people but also scary. They’d be great at protecting the group and raising them.
They deserve all the love 🥺
Also the Titans would 100% call him mini-Kronos upon seeing him that’s non-negotiable.
“Reyna and I used to talk about Diocletian,” he(Jason) said. “We both kind of idolized the guy as a leader. We talked about how we’d like to visit Diocletian’s Palace. Of course we knew that was impossible. No one could travel to the ancient lands. But still, we made this pact that if we ever did, that’s where we’d go.” -The House of Hades
the power these two could’ve had. They met at 12 too! If I recall. They probably had trials and adventures like Percy and Annabeth. Honestly I like Jeyna. Though I don’t mind that they didn’t get together. And I’m happy for Reyna. It’s just that I wish the rift was explored more. How the parrallels between them and percabeth began to drift apart. What steps she didn’t take, what things he didn’t notice. Stuff like that. Guess I’ll explore that myself!!
Back with a Halfblood moment this time from camp jupiter!Haha more on their adventures in halfblood moments coming soon. (Maybe characters like Dakota and gwen too?)
Summary: Travis Stoll and Katie Gardner reunite at New Rome University.
pjo percy: i CANNOT allow nico to die after being pushed into a world of gods and monsters, since i witnessed his only family member die i feel a sense of responsibility and want him to be safe. he has a whole life ahead of him and it'll only be harder knowing he's a son of hades and one of the big three children. even if he pushes me away and likely hates me I'll still do my best to make sure he doesn't get caught up with the wrong people. he helped us greatly and even convinced his father to help us fight. i'm glad after the end of all of this he's decided to stay at camp and we can finally maintain a normal friendship
hoo percy: oh nico ? u guys wanna leave him to die ..? ya he's a major reason why we're still alive but .... his loyalties are ..... unclear .......
You know, it shouldn't surprise me that Will blames Nico for being alone when he also yells at him for not going to visit him in the infirmary after one meeting where Will yelled at Nico about how him being alone was his own fault and Will consistently forced him to obey him about his health as if he were incompetent.
It sus to me how Will only approached Nico after Nico was in a bad state of health and then proceeded to continuously force him to "obey doctors orders" (even while dating which is majorly unethical).
Once again thinking about how ethically wrong solangelo is.
It breaks so many doctor codes of ethics it’s wild.
@h-828-h-99
Lmao I’m glad you like my rants.
Okay so first, disclaimer: @controbot went on a rant in the server about ethics when I pointed some of it out and as he knows more than me I’m using several of his points (some quoted) to explain. Thanks Pao <3
Okay, first of all a disclaimer here. I am studying medical technology so not really a med student like a doctor or a nurse but I do have a lot of interest in researching on these kind of stuff outside of my area
(Controbot disclaimer so you all are aware)
Okay, so moving onto the poitns in question. There are codes of ethics for doctors and you cannot say Will isn’t a doctor with the fact that he’s doing surgeries, acts as the doctor of the camp, and has the ability to give doctor notes and doctors orders. Whether he has a medical license or not he is a doctor.
And he breaks loads of the codes of ethics.
Now then, we’re gonna be focusing on Will specifically, cause he’s the doctor breaking the ethics.
As I’ve said many times before, doctor/patient relationships is a BIG NO. It’s not illegal, but it’s “seen as inherently bad in the medical community” (Pao, discord). Pao specifically points out how it breaks patient confidentiality which I will elaborate on but I will also point out that it runs the risks of bias and impaired judgement.
Now then, it breaks patient confidentiality (which is big important).
As Pao says, “there is a degree of trust between a doctor and a patient. Patients need to tell their doctors everything about their condition in as much detail as possible in order to get the right diagnosis. Stuff that would be pretty embarrassing to tell to a family member or to a friend, stuff that you don’t really want others to know out of fear of being judged or coddled.”
And of course, that level of discussion cannot happen with someone you’re dating. You simply cannot manage with that.
So: doctor/patient is against ethics for doctors.
Secondly, Will has talked about Nico’s medical issues to others without Nico’s permission or even Nico being present to give his feelings.
Will picked at the wrapper of his bran muffin. “It’s complicated. Nico sensed Jason’s death weeks ago. It sent him into a rage.”
(…)
Nico has traveled to the deepest parts of the Underworld, even down in Tartarus. The fact that he came through it in one piece is a miracle.”
“With his sanity intact,” I agreed.
Then I looked again at Dionysus, god of madness, who seemed to be giving Nico advice.
“Oh…”
“Yeah,” Will agreed, his face drawn with worry. “They’ve been eating most meals together, though Nico doesn’t eat much these days. Nico has been having…I guess you’d call it post-traumatic stress disorder. He gets flashbacks. He has waking dreams. Dionysus is trying to help him make sense of it all. The worst part is the voices.”
(…)
“Voices?” I asked Will.
Will turned up his palms. “Nico won’t tell me much. Just…someone in Tartarus keeps calling his name. Someone needs his help. It’s been all I could do to stop him from storming down into the Underworld by himself. I told him: Talk to Dionysus first. Figure out what’s real and what’s not. Then, if he has to go…we’ll go together.” (TON pg.88-89)
This isn’t Will’s right to tell others about. This was at the Apollo table, so at the very least all of his siblings and Apollo are now fully informed of whatever Will was informed of, and we have no info stating that Will told this with Nico’s consent. This is what Nico told Will, likely in confidentiality. This wasn’t to be shared with whoever wanted to know what was up.
As a boyfriend? I’d be iffy on him doing it. As a doctor though? I’d be furious. Nico’s medical info, including mental health, is not Will’s to share freely. Especially without Nico there to be like “hey I don’t want to talk about this” with his info.
Legally Will can only talk about Nico’s medical issues with his guardians, so Hades or Persephone. An argument could be made for Mr. D and Chiron as the people in charge of the camp and at the least temporary guardians. You could even make an argument for Hazel, Percy, and Thalia (maybe maybe Jason but he’s dead then so irrelevant). But that would be a bit stretch and only like… dire circumstances (and probably only if no other guardian was available).
“He is NOT allowed to talk about Nico’s medical condition to pretty much anyone that asks. Again this is to ensure patient confidentiality.” (Pao, discord)
Next, Will’s phrase of “doctors orders”. This is played as a joke but Will uses it to make Nico listen.
‘Right now you couldn’t summon a wishbone without melting into a puddle of darkness, di Angelo,’ Will said. ‘I told you, no more Underworldy stuff, doctor’s orders. You owe me at least three days of rest in the infirmary. Starting now.’ (BOO, pg 319)
Like, it’s not used often but it’s time used was memorable. You cannot force someone to obey the doctor. It is the person’s personal choice on if they want to do as the doctor says. The doctor can try to convince them, but ordering them? No.
The way that Will acts as Nico’s doctor is not at all okay, even before they were dating. And then after that he proceeds to keep info from Nico so that he can’t make a decision, aiming to keep Nico from doing things he didn’t want him to.
Nico’s face clouded over. “What son-of-Hades thing?”
Will developed a sudden interest in his bran muffin’s wrapper.
Nico seemed to realize, at the same time I did, that Will hadn’t shared all the lines of the prophecy with him.
“William Andrew Solace,” Nico said, “do you have something to confess?” “I was going to mention it.”
(…)
Nico scowled with such intensity I feared he might make Will wither like the apple. “You think that might have been good to mention sooner?” (TON, pg 97)
Like, none of this is okay. Will does not have the right to make decisions for Nico. As his doctor or his boyfriend. As a boyfriend this is angering, as his doctor this is straight up infuriating.
And there lies a fundamental issue, Will acts as both his boyfriend and his doctor which cannot work. There are lines that must be drawn and Will does not draw them. He does not even try to separate work and life. Doctor/Patient relationships are fundamentally unethical and this sort of behavior highlights why. They cannot be okay, but at the very least they could pretend to try to make them functional.
There’s actually laws against the Doctor making decisions for the patient, even to save their life. If the patient doesn’t want to do it they cannot be forced to. It’s meant to protect people from being made to do anything against personal belief or religion (hence Jehovah’s Witnesses not able to be forced to accept blood even if it would save their lives) and also so their autonomy cannot be taken away.
Finally, will blatantly abuses his position as head doctor to get Nico benefits. Like, I know it’s “cute” that he gets Nico a doctor’s note to sit with the Apollo cabin but stars, Nico being allowed to do that when all through PJO and HOO we’ve been shown that that’s absolutely forbidden is wild.
Annabeth couldn’t even sit with Percy for five minutes without the camp directors being ready to tell her off. Percy and Thalia both had to sit alone the whole time, as did Jason when he was there.
I think it would be great for those boundaries to not be forced, but the way that Will went about it was not okay. None of the others who sit alone get those permissions but Will uses his authority to make sure Nico gets it. That’s abuse of authority.
In total: it’s unethical and wild that anyone allows this. I’m in shock that the fandom latches onto this ship so hard when they criticize basically every other ship. People condemn Frazel and Percabeth in the same breath as going on about how great Solangelo is and I’m just-
@onthishamsterwheel I… apologize for taking so long to make this post. I know your requested it ages ago, but I have been… extraordinarily busy and my ask box overwhelming so I’ve only just started answering the longer more complicated ones.
So, Canon Will Solace’s Personality.
(it got long, and doesn’t really dive into TOA, so warning if you wish to read below the cut)
I feel like pissing off a community today. Queenie would you call solangelo abusive?
My Dove, I always welcome messages steeped in such rage <3
Despite all my hate of Solangelo I would ultimately not call it abusive. It holds the potential to be such, but as it is (at least canonically) it is not. Fanon... well that can lean more towards abuse and control than canon does but it varies greatly.
Despite that it is not abusive, for it need not be abusive to have problems, it is a toxic relationship by my beliefs.
I have given many an example to this, but there are several that stand out in my memory.
Yes, there are many toxic elements to their relationship, though ultimately it runs just shy of abuse.
Truly it hurts me that this ship, with all it’s problems, is one of the most popular in the fandom. It’s getting it’s own book focusing on it- and yet I doubt that the things that are genuine issues (bad medical practices, dismissal of trauma, ignoring boundaries) will be properly handled.
I dread it.
