We're hard at work on both a restock and brand-new listings, but in the meantime, we still have four types of candles listed in our Etsy shop, plus candleholders & incense burners!

If you're in the market for some unscented beeswax candles made by a household of crafty disabled queers, check us out! <3

Me: Wow, it's been hard to feel like my work has been meaningful. Am I really making a difference? Does anyone really need me to keep talking about the Hays Code and the way the modern MPA guidelines are descended from the very same code? Am I actually contributing anything to the world by talking about how horrible Joseph Breen was? Does anyone really give a damn about me discussing all the nasty bullshit the MPA has been allowed to get away with?

Me: ...ah. Okay. I am doing vital work, actually. Fuck.

What a cool cosplay! How did you manage to do that effect on your eyes?

Avatar

(Context for others - in reference to this photo:)

First: Thank you! :D

As for the effect, it's partially a white contact lens*, and partially that my eye started watering at the exact moment the photo was taken, hahaha. The shine from the tear looked really great after editing, so it was a bit of a happy accident!

Contacts for cosplay can be pricey, but there was a sale on these right when I had a little spare cash, so I got lucky. It's pretty awesome to see how nice the first photos with it turned out. I wasn't sure if it would be worth the money, but now I definitely think it was.

(*For those who haven't seen the show, I did this to mimic a film that a magic caterpillar weaves over one of this character's eyes at one point. This style of contact is also commonly used to simulate blindness. I personally wouldn't use blind-eye contacts to mimic a blind character, because I've seen overwhelmingly negative opinions on it from actually blind people. Felt like it was a good idea to mention that here.)

John Waters as a special guest in a Halloween episode of Helluva Boss was truly fucking fantastic and I'm still so delighted that he was there. If I hadn't already been keeping up with the show, hearing the words "John Waters guest starred in an animated horror-comedy about horny demons" would make me start, just to get to that episode.

John Waters plays the villain in the new Halloween episode "Ghostfuckers," his character looks exactly like him, and I am so glad to be the one to share this with you.

this is the first time I have ever heard of John Waters and I feel like the outlier here

Oh god are you in for a treat.

he directed the original hairspray (his first movie to break into the mainstream and the only one with a PG rating which says a lot. Also one of only two that people thought would work as a musical that’s appropriate to be performed in high schools).

as far as movies are concerned I recommend female trouble because it’s the closest of his first three big movies actually has to a linear plot. It’s about a girl who ends up modeling for this couple as part of an ‘experiment’ to see if crime can make people look glamorous. By which I mean they have her committing atrocities while they photograph her. They basically predicted true crime before true crime was really a thing.

also it has this exchange in the year 1974

Gator: Ain’t no way; I’m straight. I like a lot of queers, but I don’t dig their equipment, you know? I like women.

Ida: But you could change! Queers are just better. I’d be so proud if you was a fag, and had a nice beautician boyfriend… I’d never have to worry.

Gator: There ain’t nothing to worry about.

Ida: I worry that you’ll work in an office! Have children! Celebrate wedding anniversaries! The world of the heterosexual is a sick and boring life!

OKAY SO BASICALLY. QUEER CINEMA ICON

cooool beansssss

I am *so* delighted that someone has learned about John Waters from this post! He's an important figure in American queer media, and I always love when he shows up in things.

For anyone who would like to learn more about him and his work, I highly recommend this video essay from Matt Baume! :)

I will defend low-quality queer media if only because non-queer people get to make shitty low-quality media all the time and nobody gives a shit.

Queer people deserve to make shitty art as much as anyone else, god damn it. We've been censored for so goddamn long and I'm tired of every piece of queer media needing to be the height of representation and art and quality.

Queer media won't have achieved true equality with straight media until queer people can make garbage in peace.

No!!!!! We love the garbage here!!!! I thrive on the unpolished, the weird, the slapped together, the confusing, the schlock, the absolutely unhinged camp that nobody understands. This is not a "you have to tolerate the garbage along with the refined high art," this is a celebration of the freedom to make things that suck ass without shame!!!

Your tastes are your own, but as the OP, I LOVE weird queer garbage art!!!!! Everyone reading this needs to go make more of it, right now!!!!!

All I want in life is to love and stand by my own art as much as Don Mancini stands by Seed of Chucky. Mancini has truly mastered the ability to look at everyone saying "your art is total shit" and say, "I didn't make it for you, I love it, and that's all that matters."

It's part of what makes Seed my favorite Chucky movie. It's the most batshit camp queer domestic drama slasher ever, Mancini is committed to making sure nobody erases it from the series canon, and I fucking love it. If you can't handle the Bride/Seed era of Chucky, you don't deserve him. <3

I taught myself to use a lettering guide today! I've been feeling really frustrated with my art lately, so I wrote myself a little motivational message that includes the iconic John Waters quote, "Have faith in your own bad taste."

It's been so long since I got in Viren cosplay that 3 new seasons of The Dragon Prince have released! Season 6 was equal parts amazing & emotionally devastating, & I'm hyped for season 7! Hoping very much that Netflix greenlights arc 3!

Makeup & video editing by @kryptidkhaos. Costume by myself. Music is "Don't Make Me Choose/Hearts of Cinder," taken from the season 3 soundtrack composed by Frederik Wiedmann.

Video shows a timelapse of kryptidkhaos applying makeup to renthony and helping them dress up in cosplay, set to the aforementioned song.

It takes up the entire goddamn living room, but it is so nice to have an actual professional photography setup for cosplay. Much love to both the person who bought the backdrop from my wishlist, and to my photographer bestie @dovesndecay, who loaned us the lighting equipment & camera. You're the best. 💜
