Man, fuck off with that bullshit. A good writer does what? Slaves away at a novel that will never get published because it's not a marketable idea? Or gets published and makes like $6k for their labor, unless they can continue to churn out mainstream-marketable paperbacks at a breakneck pace? Or hope they get picked up for a Netflix series where they sign away their characters and worlds to a team of better-paid staff writers?
I watched Thomas Harris blow so many "hard and fast" writing rules out of the water, and it caught my breath every time.
Write how you want, write what you want, just write.

The stuggles of being a writer.
A shame that I have to actually finish my book before I get to read it. I enjoy writing it just as much but I am looking forward to finishing my first book and getting to read through it, even if I do know what's going to happen.

also me, writing said fic:
sometimes i need to remind myself that i'm writing fanfiction for free and i'm allowed to have a shitty sentence or two
so many of my fics have remained buried in my drafts because i wrote the cool scenes first and then didn’t have “connective tissue”. but i’m freeing myself from that and just adding shitty “and then a week passed” or “they got to their destination” connections and just posting them and it’s so! freeing! try it!
I can't tell you how many times I've agonized over a scene transition, only to fill in the missing space with, like, a sentence.
Write the parts you wanna write and then go in and slap scotch tape over the rest of it.
Sometimes when I’m feeling self conscious I’ll go and pull a book off my shelf to see how whichever author handled time transitions, and it’s really REALLY common that it’s just, like, “October came and went.” And that’s SO freeing. Just fast forward. Just do it.

what were the best/most interesting requests you got from both gthb and bthb cards? I'm curious by some prompts, I can't help myself🙈
I think my favorite gthb request so far has been the Being Inspired prompt where someone requested a fic in my Safe Haven verse that's loosely: little Ellie gets made fun of at school for not having a dad to come to some dad event and so Joel offers to go with her instead.
And my favorite bthb request so far is the Flooding prompt where the request is essentially: flood near/in Jackson, Ellie still can't swim.
But some people just request a prompt, or just a prompt with characters and that leaves it pretty open ended for me.
For example the Completing A To-Do List request was just that prompt with Ellie and Joel, which might've taken a bit longer since it's not as much to go on except I got hit with an idea for it at work the other day. So by a stroke of luck it's actually the first one I'm working on!
Ao3 subscriptions are so fucking wild to me. Every time I write my silly fanfictions and post them 124 people get an email just to let them know that this idiot is posting their fanfictions again. I send 124 people an email every time I write smut. Imagine sending 124 physical letters out just to be like “hello everyone, I put some guys we made up in our heads through the horrors again.” Absolutely absurd. I am kissing all of you on the lips.
