Man, fuck off with that bullshit. A good writer does what? Slaves away at a novel that will never get published because it's not a marketable idea? Or gets published and makes like $6k for their labor, unless they can continue to churn out mainstream-marketable paperbacks at a breakneck pace? Or hope they get picked up for a Netflix series where they sign away their characters and worlds to a team of better-paid staff writers?
I watched Thomas Harris blow so many "hard and fast" writing rules out of the water, and it caught my breath every time.
Write how you want, write what you want, just write.
