Faith is a commitment to dishonesty.
Religious apologetics aren’t intended to honestly and objectively address problems in religious doctrine. Their sole intent is to keep believers in belief, casting the illusion of the dogma being coherent. At the core of every single religious apologetic is a fallacy. A lie, a trick, a logical sleight of hand the apologist hopes the believer is too credulous or unwitting to notice.
The only honest truth you can give about a lie is that it’s a lie.
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Eusebius was involved in the creation of the New Testament canon.
1700 years later, you have “faith” and a “personal relationship” and think it’s divine providence.
And the stop to all that was achieved through fulfillment of Biblical teachings of tolerance. No such tortures ever having been any part of Biblical teachings.
“You shouldn’t blame religion for what’s essentially a consequence of tribalism… And it’s easy to confuse those two things. Chimpanzees go to war with each other. Are you going to blame that on their religious beliefs? I wouldn’t… So that was discovered by Jane Goodall back in the 1970s. And she didn’t talk about that for a number of years because it shocked her so badly.”-Prof. Jordan Peterson
Christian Philosopher, John Locke, was accused of plagiarizing the Bible when he wrote “A Letter Concerning Toleration” because it was just a slew of Biblical principles.
While Atheist leaders, Hitler Mao & Stalin, Killed more people than ever before in the 20th Century.
Atheists have no basis for moral principles whereas theists do; all that’s left for a theist is to have the right moral principles of tolerance derived from the Bible.
Atheists show again & again that they don’t know the meaning of the word TOLERANCE. Their only religious practice is to demonize & conflate theists.
And conflating a Christian and a Muslim is like conflating A Nazi & a Minarchist because they both believe government is necessary.
This is such a bullshit response and demonstrates bold ignorance of the bible and it’s abhorrent and immoral stories. The bible explicitly sanctions slavery - and no, it wasn’t “different”. It was OWNING HUMAN BEINGS AS PROPERTY.
Exodus 21:20-21
“Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, 21 but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
It sanctions genocide. It prescribes death for minor offences. It sanctions war against people “Lord” simply didn’t like. This is, of course, thoroughly unsurprising, as Xtians don’t read their own book - or even value doing so - and instead simply have carefully curated excerpts read to them once a week.
Here is a long list of scriptural references where cruelty and violence are either endorsed or outright prescribed:
It’s the immorality of “faith” that handwaves over how abominable both the “Lord” and “Jesus” characters act to everyone and everything in the story, as they excuse owning human people as property, treating others who are different like literal dogs, and soaking the sands of the region with the blood of those who think differently. It’s the immorality and the desperation of the believers that has them sacrifice their own humanity to defend the rape, incest, murder, torture - the indefensible.
While Atheist leaders, Hitler Mao & Stalin, Killed more people than ever before in the 20th Century.
There literally aren’t any “atheist leaders.” Who are the leaders of “everybody who doesn’t believe in Shiva,” of whom you are a member? Who did you vote for at the last meeting of non-”Shiva believers”? Who are the leaders of “everybody who doesn’t believe in Bigfoot”? Who represents “everybody who doesn’t follow Zeus”? Do you fathom at all how ignorant, stupid and absurd this entire statement truly is? It is the single dumbest thing I’ve heard anyone say in the last month.
You wouldn’t understand that given you don’t even comprehend what atheism actually is, and you assume everybody lives subjected to a dogmatic, hierarchical, authoritarian system like you. And assume everybody else outside your clique operates the same way. You are a non-believer yourself; you disbelieve all but one god.
But hey, why let truth get in the way of a good story? Your religion is based on made-up stories, afterall. Like the one I could spin about Fred Phelps (he of Westboro) being one of Xtianity’s leaders.
And this whole chestnut is not just a baldfaced lie, it’s a deliberate misrepresentation of non-belief.
Firstly, Hitler is well documented to be a Christian. I’m not even going to bother quoting any of the many, many written and spoken entries where he declared his mission to be Xtian, or even point out the “God With Us” slogan on the Nazi belt buckle. Everybody knows this.
What is less clear is why Xtian dishonesty continues to push this out-and-out lie.
Regarding Stalin and Mao, the biggest threat to these dictators was the power wielded by the relevant religions at the time. They solved this by banning religion entirely, in order eliminate the competition for the minds of the populace. In essence, they made themselves the state religion - a Cult of Personality. Again, super-easy to find:
And both Stalin and Mao are specifically called out on the above page.
They were worshipped. Just like in North Korea today. The belief, the fanaticism is completely religious in nature. Stalin even cast himself as being the “son of god” - with “god” being Lenin. While being sent to work camps or to extermination, they still had “faith” in their perfect leader, their perfect system, that they would not be let down. Like any religious believer.
I mean, seriously. What kindergarten-level illogic is this you’re trying to sell?
Atheists can’t justify anything at all in the name of their imaginary friend, that it excused, or outright sanctioned by their specific sky-elf, as believers can. Not a single thing these tyrants did was in the name of atheism. They didn’t use their power to enforce atheism, they used atheism to enforce their power.
But it’s pretty convenient to misrepresent it and pretend that atheism leads to mass-murder.
Simply by lying. (And acting offended when they’re called out on it.)
I am not obliged to tolerate nonsense ideas, such as the existence of a magical sky elf that you can’t produce or demonstrate a mechanism to detect it. I’m not obliged to respect the notion I should wear a torture symbol around my neck and whisper to the clouds any more than I am obliged to tolerate the idea I should wear tinfoil on my head and speak in pig-latin to confuse the alien overlords. They are identical in substantiation.
This is the arrogance of religious zealots. That their particular belief should be immune from scrutiny or examination or criticism or mockery. Making it clear theirs is the most deserving of scrutiny, examination, criticism and mockery.
“One of the things that is a classic trope of the religious bigot, is while they’re denying people their rights, they claim that their rights are being denied. While they are persecuting people, they claim to be persecuted. While they are behaving colossally offensively, they claim to be the offended party.” - Salman Rushdie.
One day, after you’ve finally actually read the bible (I have), you might like to look up the phrase of “paradox of tolerance,” because your fallacious argument lives right there, buddy.
But the biggest lie of all in this ridiculous pile of nonsense, is the bold attempt to deflect Xtian atrocities onto Islam, and cast everybody else as the perpetrators of the world’s ills (Xtians were just being “tribal” - apparently that excuses everything, just like “faith”). Islam is toxic shit. But pretending that Xtianity is a religion of love and peace, simply by declaring it so, in defiance of all the evidence to to the contrary - is deliberately ignoring all the damage it has wrought throughout history and still continues to this day. With Xtians themselves being one of the major victims of everything it does, from devaluing their own life, and therefore the lives of others, living a half-existence of being perpetually monitored for thought crimes by a monster who is not there, to attempting to corrupt human knowledge and insert stupid superstitions alongside - or in place of - rigorous investigation and scrupulous justification.
What an absolutely empty and dishonest response. But, hey, Lying for Jesus is okay, right? No sin, no dishonesty cannot be instantly forgiven simply by simply deciding it is.
P.S. You literally just demonstrated the meme exactly, attempting to deceive and manipulate to instil fear and distrust where it is not deserved, outright lying in order to falsely acquire deference and respect, while deliberately deflecting and avoiding all the work required to actually attain such respect through merit - since your beliefs have none. You are the reason this meme exists and needs to continue to exist. Truly classic, textbook religionism.
@andrewclark5060 When you pretend the bible is scientifically validated, trying to back it up with the Argument from Popularity (”6 billion copies sold!”, which must, necessarily mean it was not correct when the first copy was sold, right?) and I ask for a link to a genuine scientific journal that verifies this, and I warn you not to link to a nonsense creationist apologetics site, indistinguishable from simply quoting the bible as evidence for the bible... and then you link to the exact same nonsense creationist apologetics site I told you not to...
That’s when I know you’re as dishonest a troll as there ever has been. You’ve never met the truth ever in your life. You’re a pathological liar.
This is the same troll who pretended that prayer works, that there were 66 validated, scientific studies that back this up, when - no, there aren’t. Then went on to confirm that prayer works in conjunction with medicine, and didn’t bat an eyelid at the intellectual dishonesty, or the Ark-sized holes in his stupid, stupid story.
Oh yes, and prayers don’t always work because “there has to be sincerity” (direct quote). When I asked about the sincere prayers of the children raped by his god’s priests, he declared them to be “atheist pedos” (direct quote), and I, as an atheist, bear responsibility because “what did you do about it?” (direct quote). I’m not even kidding. Before he went full-on psycho troll, I assured him, as I usually do, that as a member of an evolved social species, he was more moral than his despicable “god”, as he didn’t follow the bible, not being in prison and all, and therefore didn’t need this imaginary monster. Apparently I was mistaken about his morality. Nonetheless, it constitutes an outright admission his “god” doesn’t answer the sincere prayers of the children. Yet again, he proves himself incapable of keeping his morbid dishonesty straight.
Dude, that was fucking weak. As weak as your shit-ass god. I’ve run into irrational theists before, but you’re clearly a compulsive liar.
For anyone else, as you’re probably well aware, the bible is filled entirely with scientific absurdities, with the universe described by it being essentially a snowglobe. And it isn’t even internally consistent; in the first few pages, Genesis outright contradicts itself. If you’d like to laugh at how ridiculous the story is, how removed from real science it is, and marvel at how delusional this troll is, try the BibViz project: http://bibviz.com
And never let the religious forget that they think a donkey and a snake can talk.
KatieKat has never once been in the same room as the truth.
Remember: This is the type of person who is certain they belong in “heaven.”
calvinist23
Dear @calvinist23
You literally do not understand the most fundamental aspect of atheism: lack of belief in gods.
Here is a lesson you apparently never learned in your purported role “researching”.... something.
A trial returns a verdict of “guilty” or “not guilty.” it does not return a verdict of “innocent.” “Not guilty” covers both belief the person did not do it (i.e. is in fact innocent), and the situation where the prosecution simply did not make their case “beyond reasonable doubt.” We treat the defendant as innocent, because there needs to be an outcome. But you can be released for actually having not done it, or for there simply being not enough justification to convict you. Either way, the outcome is the same.
I don’t know why this eludes such an intellectual giant as you, considering it’s in, like, every freaking law show for the last umpteen decades, but when I tell you that I don’t need to make any claims to simply not believe you - demonstrating it by illustrating all the thousands of gods you don’t believe in (I suspect this very simple demonstration is what triggered your rapid slide) - and you refuse to accept it, this is where you fall into a giant hole of being uselessly illogical, and there is no hope for any honest conversation.
Attempting to claim the intellectual higher ground when you don’t even understand this very simple idea is also a warning sign that you’re incapable of rational thought.
If that’s how quickly you get frustrated and block people, because you insist on passing your burden of proof to them, and characterise them in a way that suits your silly narrative and pre-arranged agenda, rather than based on their actual position - which I stated MANY times - then you’re the most worthless “researcher” on the planet.
Maybe Google the “Null Hypothesis” some day in your illustrious “research.” Maybe also “confirmation bias.”
Your “research” methodology is like asking “when did you stop beating your wife” and then getting mad and blocking them when they refuse to fall into the trap you set up for them by explaining their actual position - over and over and over - for no better reason than because you didn’t hear what you wanted to.
The burden of proof for your god claim is yours. It is not mine and never has been. I will not shoulder it for you just because you have no justification for your superstitions. All it means is you have reason to abandon your silly, childish myths. Even though you won't.
And that you’re s dishonest fuck.
(For reference, this was in private chat.)
