Religion is a Mental Illness

Tribeless. Problematic. Triggering. Faith is a cognitive sickness.

“Just as Christianity must destroy reason before it can introduce faith, so must it destroy happiness before it can introduce salvation.”
-- George H. Smith

How else can you be convinced to feel guilty for simply existing, to then sell you an imaginary cure for an imaginary congenital defect?

“I don't understand why Christians think so highly of Jesus dying on the cross so we could be forgiven by God for ‘our sins’. The death and resurrection of this one man is at the very heart of the Christian faith. But if such a being as god existed, he surely could have simply ‘Forgiven us’. What the death of Jesus suggests is that God is not capable of forgiveness without blood and torture and death... which is pretty damn horrible.
But hey, he's all about love, right?
...Right??”

“God” is limited by blood magic.

It's funny how God punishes people for not believing in him. So those new born baby's that die prematurely must be burning in hell- oh no. OH NO!

In the realm of Xtianity, don’t forget everybody who was born before Jesus had his Great Sleep-in which is what established the path to “salvation.”

Somehow, Noah and the Gilgamesh Incest Bunch were absolved or forgiven (you know, for things they didn’t do that nobody else did either), but everybody else had to die. “God” had the ability to start over from scratch but didn’t, and had the ability to just get over it, as he did for those few, but wouldn’t.

And they had to invent special exemptions and assumptions when they realized their beliefs were barbaric, since infant deaths didn’t qualify for what the myths said.

None of the various gods hold a majority share, meaning that every god has more people disbelieving it than believing it. Making these gods all failures.

Babies that are not baptized before death dont go to hell they go to limbo.

Eternity in an unremarkable blah-place. Sounds like “heaven”/Celestial North Korea to me.

Limbo” is a human invention and there is zero support for it in scripture, just a Catholic opinion/rationalization handed down from generation to generation to make the bible look less terrible in regards to infant “souls.”

Even if we take it at face value, “limbo” is declaring that the rules “god” himself set up for how things work don’t properly accommodate infant deaths, which makes him a failure. Both by making the death happen (per his Plan™/testing you/mysterious ways) - or merely not stopping it - in the first place, and by requiring mechanisms to absolve original sin that necessitate people surviving past infancy.

You’re pretty much conceding the point here: “god” is an incompetent, infant-wasting buffoon, who never thought this through properly. Even though he was already expecting to kill millions of unborn and infants in his tyrannical rampage across a small patch of the Middle East. Or, he did think it through and fully intended infants to go to hell, then realized he made a mistake/responded to displeasure from his human masters, so whizzed up a quick neutral place. That the Pope demolished.

Unless, of course, these limitations were just him obeying SuperGod’s rules.

Jesus (supposedly) “died for your sins” before you were even born (even though the bible says it’s an invalid sacrifice). If you don’t sin, then he died in vain.

No wonder highly-religious states in the U.S. have higher levels of crime, and sins like divorce are more prevalent among Xtians -- there’s an open bar-tab for sinning. And then, of course, there’s also an unlimited number of free passes available from his dad-self.

With that in mind, remind me again who is the source of the claim that religion is the basis for morality? Oh, yes. Religion. Funny that.
