Allah hath not assigned unto any man two hearts within his body, nor hath He made your wives whom ye declare (to be your mothers) your mothers, nor hath He made those whom ye claim (to be your sons) your sons. This is but a saying of your mouths. But Allah saith the truth and He showeth the way.
And when thou saidst unto him on whom Allah hath conferred favour and thou hast conferred favour: Keep thy wife to thyself, and fear Allah. And thou didst hide in thy mind that which Allah was to bring to light, and thou didst fear mankind whereas Allah hath a better right that thou shouldst fear Him. So when Zeyd had performed that necessary formality (of divorce) from her, We gave her unto thee in marriage, so that (henceforth) there may be no sin for believers in respect of wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have performed the necessary formality (of release) from them. The commandment of Allah must be fulfilled.
O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war, and the daughters of thine uncle on the father's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the father's side, and the daughters of thine uncle on the mother's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the mother's side who emigrated with thee, and a believing woman if she give herself unto the Prophet and the Prophet desire to ask her in marriage - a privilege for thee only, not for the (rest of) believers - We are Aware of that which We enjoined upon them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess - that thou mayst be free from blame, for Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.
O Ye who believe! Enter not the dwellings of the Prophet for a meal without waiting for the proper time, unless permission be granted you. But if ye are invited, enter, and, when your meal is ended, then disperse. Linger not for conversation. Lo! that would cause annoyance to the Prophet, and he would be shy of (asking) you (to go); but Allah is not shy of the truth. And when ye ask of them (the wives of the Prophet) anything, ask it of them from behind a curtain. That is purer for your hearts and for their hearts. And it is not for you to cause annoyance to the messenger of Allah, nor that ye should ever marry his wives after him. Lo! that in Allah's sight would be an enormity.
Verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much.
Islam is like if Toto pulled back the curtain to reveal the man pulling the levers, and when he says "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain," Dorothy says, "would you please be quiet, I'm trying to talk to the wizard."
“A wise man, therefore, proportions his belief to the evidence”
-- David Hume, “An Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding”
"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.”
-- Carl Sagan, “Cosmos”
In the story, Jesus does prove to Thomas and Thomas then does believe. You can point this out to any Xian who tut-tuts you with this verse; Jesus does fulfil his burden of proof to Thomas. Which, of course, does nothing for everyone outside the book.
But then, being a colossal asshat, he chides Thomas for not believing in the unbelievable without any evidence or reason. Effectively firing the first shot in Xianity’s war against science. The message is clear: don’t ask, don’t question, don’t consider. Just blindly believe.
If you live in a world which has dragons and you don’t believe in dragons, it makes sense for people to ridicule you. Jesus’ mocking of Thomas not believing in literal magic only makes sense in a fictional world filled with magic. Like talking donkeys, snakes and burning bushes.
In the real world, we’re entitled to ask for evidence for unreasonable claims.

In 1997, Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old student at Eagle Rock Junior High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho, gathered 43 votes to ban the chemical, out of 50 ninth-graders surveyed. Zohner received the first prize at Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair for analysis of the results of his survey. In recognition of his experiment, journalist James K. Glassman coined the term "Zohnerism" to refer to "the use of a true fact to lead a scientifically and mathematically ignorant public to a false conclusion".
You realize we can tell when you’re just mindlessly parroting your grifter pastor, right?
Conspiracy theorists aren’t skeptics. They’re exceedingly gullible.
The thing they’re most skeptical about is anything that would disconfirm their pet idea. The existence of which, naturally, merely confirms the conspiracy. “tHaT’s wHaT tHeY wAnt yOu tO tHinK!1!” #Kafkatrap
As with religious believers, simply ask them how they would detect, or what would convince them, that they were wrong.
Even if you don’t believe in gods, are you certain you’re not one of those who believes things for bad reasons? How confident are you that what you believe is actually true? Could you tell if it wasn’t true? Would you accept it? Or would that simply confirm the conspiracy? Could there be another, simpler explanation?
Gibbs' Rule #4: Best way to keep a secret. Keep it to yourself. Second best, tell one other person—if you must. There is no third best.
Adherence to conspiracy theories is essentially the same thing as religious “faith.”
Demanding credulous belief before providing a good reason is the hallmark of a con artist.
