This makes perfect sense.

Most people forget that First Class took place in the 1960s when homosexuality was illegal. People complain that Cherik wasn’t “open” about their attraction and/or lust for each other, but forget that they were living in a time where they could go to prison for displaying that same love. It makes perfect sense for them to hide it.
