A pair of white moose cross a highway in Northern Ontario, Canada. The pair, a mother and her calf, owe their unique pigmentation to a condition called ’leucism’.

…have heard of this, however, until now have never seen even a photo. Thanks Sir.

It’s not often you see forest gods traveling together….
@elodieunderglass - TWO LEUCISTIC MEESE!!!
Young ravens. One exhibiting a rare mutation.
this unusually golden house sparrow is its strange color due to a genetic mutation called leucism. leucistic animals lack correct pigmentation, and can be varying shades paler than non-leucistic animals. leucistic birds have weaker feathers, and tend to be easy targets for predators, meaning that their rarity is increased since many of them don’t make it to adulthood.

hat tip to @callii
A bunch of stunning mutants.
The top images show zebra, leopard and tigers with pseudomelanism/abundism - the same type of mutation as seen in king cheetahs (but I shall resist the urge to cheetah-spam and instead show some individuals from underappreciated/under-recognised pseudomelanistic species)
Also thrown in for good measure are a piebald moose, erythristic leopard, melanistic serval and leucistic serval.
I just really love colour morphs!!!
I just GASPED out loud

oooooh @elodieunderglass - this clearly for youuu
Leucistic amphibians and reptiles
Leucism (loo-si-zem) is a condition of reduced pigmentation marked by overall pale color or patches of reduced coloring caused by a recessive genetic mutation which inhibits pigment from being deposited on the feathers, hair, or skin. Unlike albinism, leucism does not affect the pigment or the retina or iris so they have normal eye pigmentation (although due to recessive genes many leucistic animals also have pale eye color such as blue).
