Something I think about every once in a while:
“Well, I’m afraid.”
“Of what?”
“Dying.”
Donan ran a cloth over the blade of the sword. “Not an unreasonable fear, that; but sometimes there’s more to fear in living,” he said and sheathed the sword.
James’ frown was puzzled. “I don’t understand.”
“A man dies but once. Each day a man lives, however, he must live with the consequences of the choices he has made. In spring, a farmer chooses what crop he will sow, not knowing if the weather that year will suit wheat or barley, flax or rye. Did he make the right choice? If he has not, then he may be left to watch his family starve. I chose to make a stand against Caliam here at Tennryth, a choice that will decide my fate, and that of hundreds of others. If I made the wrong choice, then men have died in my name for nothing. So long as I live, that will be my burden to carry.”
