when we say trans women are male and trans men are female, we are not saying they deserve to be discriminated against or that their dysphoria doesn’t matter. we are saying biology exists and matters in certain contexts.

when we say we won’t date trans women because we’re lesbians, we are not saying trans women don’t deserve to have happy, fulfilling relationships. we are saying that we are not romantically or sexually attracted to them and so that neither of us would have a happy, fulfilling relationship if we dated.

when we say we are gender critical, we are not saying everyone should be gender-conforming. we are saying the opposite, that men and women should be free to dress and act however they like instead of being forced into certain gender roles based on their sex.

when we say female-only safe spaces are important, we are not saying trans-only or mixed safe spaces aren’t also important. we are saying that based on our biology, women have certain shared experiences and face specific oppression that we deserve to be able to discuss among ourselves.

when we say one thing and you hear another, that isn’t our fault. when you’re ready to listen to what we actually believe or to have a genuine discussion, we’ll still be here.

They hear those things because that’s how they feel about women. They hear those dehumanising things because that’s how they see women.

Thank you for the support and love, I love receiving messages like this from people who have personal/emotional connections with classical and religious art figures. I grew up Jewish so I don’t have much experience researching saints, I would have never known the complexity of Joan of Arc’s gender identity had I not received this message!

Where is the source for Joan wearing men’s clothes in her personal life? Because I haven’t seen that anywhere. Are you assuming because, because she grew up a peasant farmer, that she didn’t wear the gowns of noble women that she wore men’s clothes? Like, where are you getting this from? History.com, Wikipedia, Biography.com, and the Ancient History Encyclopedia don’t mention it.

She pretended to be a man in the beginning so she could safely visit the king she was hoping to put back on the French throne. She claimed she had been having visions from Saints Michael, Margaret, and Catherine from ages 13 to 19, with the Saints proclaiming her savior of France and encouraging her to restore a French monarch to the throne (the future King Charles VII), as France was ruled by the English at the time.

She told his soldiers that she needed to see the king because “the Lord willed it” and that she’d rather stay home and spin with her mother. Spinning being a predominately female occupation.

She dressed as a man and cut her hair short to go see Charles. Do you know why? Because the armed escort of male soldiers told her to so she wouldn’t be attacked as they rode through Burgundian territory, who were pro-English and hostile to those loyal to the French crown. She didn’t tell Charles she was a man. Nobody besides the Burgundians they rode by thought she was a man.

She donned male armor to lead the troops given to her by Charles at the Battle of Orleans because they didn’t make armor for women. Not in the 13th century. And, according to sources, she wore a dress/”women’s clothes” when she wasn’t fighting, though she kept her hair short for practical reasons. She was captured by the English and their Burgundian supporters in 1430. They tried her for heresy.

While in a military prison guarded by men, she reportedly kept men’s clothes on to protect herself from being raped by the guards, as the armor was difficult to remove. She was interrogated at least 12 times, and they threatened to torture and rape her. But she wouldn’t break.

She was later given a dress, but her dress was soon taken by the guards, and she had nothing else to wear but men’s clothes.

In May 1431, she burned at the stake, with an estimated 70 charges against her, including witchcraft, heresy, and cross-dressing.

This was a 19 year old peasant woman who convinced the future King of France to let her lead an army of trained and armed men against the invading English forces. This is a woman from humble origins who faced threats of torture and rape with courage. Who refused to break. Who believed in her cause.

She is brave, and her story is inspiring. But she isn’t “trans”, and how dare you insult her like that. She showed the valor and resilience in the face of war, violence, and patriarchy unique to women.

Where are the “trans themes” in her story? You have no valor or resilience, no courage or bravery. You can’t even look the cashier at McDonalds in the eye. Joan of Arc turned the tide of the Hundred Years War, restored a French king to the throne, all at age 19. And what have you done? Invented a “gender identity” from the sheltered comfort of your parents basement.

Joan of Arc is a heroine, and a role model to women and girls everywhere. Fuck you for trying to make her a man.

It’s also perhaps worth noting that she was super religious, so she probably wouldn’t have been very fond of trans people anyway if she had even known about them, much less identified as a trans man herself.

There are genuine trans people to look up to in history. It is unbelievably foolish and misogynistic to non consensually force a trans identity on a dead woman.

Does anyone remember when Stephen Fry said, perhaps a month at best on Twitter after rowling’s essay was published on her site, that he didn’t understand all the fuss and that transgenderism seemed a bit silly and not well thought out? That he didn’t understand why people were attacking Rowling?

The most heated response I saw was “oh well don’t have heroes I guess” or “big admirer, hope you change your views soon!” The stakes are so different. They know they can’t push this shit with men; they are men.

And no matter - no fucking matter - what she tweets, the retweets are FULL of variants of “shut up bitch” and “I hope she dies”.

Trans activism is just the newest flag that misogynists have rallied under to hate women. Same shit. Different package.

When men with widespread influence in the anglophone world (ex. Ben shapiro, matt walsh -these are people who have more 'serious' professions than a children's author who stays socially relevant through twitter outrage. They have backing or are cofounders of relevant usamerican newspapers) they get well constructed and argumented video essays, hour long videos for a 5 minute prager-u (an institution founded by a man) ad, they get some harmless jokes thrown their way at most.

When women tweet out their controversial opinions on twitter, they get the most vile messages and no attempt of debunking the claims they continue saying are so ridiculous

Shapiro tweets out stupid shit all the time and I have yet to see anyone in the qrt or comments telling him half the shit people tell jkr

There's two more reasons why she is attacked so much more harshly:

1. The majority of trans people are nerds. They have a culture of being really into fandom. Harry Potter has a huuuge fandom. So when they learned that their childhood favorite doesn't subscribe to view that they deem extremely important, they feel betrayed. They're seething because they can't help but still adore HP even if she's a "bigot". That is why it's hard to compare her to Matt Walsh or Ben Shapiro. Trans people had no reason to love Ben or Matt to begin with.

2. It's long been known even before all this gender mess that Rowling was progressive. It's deeply disturbing to trans advocates that someone that they would've otherwise considered an exemplary person wind up not sharing their view on something that they think is apparently one of the biggest issues on the planet. By stepping out of line on such an "important" issue, they must make an example out of her. What they've done to her was to send a message to scare any other fence-sitters into silence.

Found in a thread with other examples of straight men doing this but this one was the least explicit. Long story short, straight men trick FTMs desperate for validation, and if the FTM never actually discovers the rouse, their confidence is falsely bolstered and they go on to make dating life harder for actual gay men. Just a shitshow all around.

I find it absolutely baffling when trans people, and those who support their dogma, act like no one is using their lil cult to prey on people. As if no one is pretending to be something they're not in order to get something they want. As if men are incapable of pretending to be gay in order to fuck women.

I'm like, babes, YOU'RE pretending to be something you're not, in order to get something you want. Your whole religion is about pretending to be the opposite sex so that you can try to fuck people who aren't sexually attracted to you.

I have been saying men do this for a long time and no one would believe me. They said I am "fearmongering" and lying to convince trans men to not to gay clubs for my transphobic agenda. Or something. I tried explaining rape by deception, but when they also are attempting to do this to gay men, it's a hard thing to conceptualize.

Meanwhile, I was the one at those gay clubs ("queer bars") watching straight and bisexual men do specifically this behavior with zero shame. I have heard what they say with my own ears. I have heard what they ask bartenders at gay bars. I've had gay male friends laugh and tell me what straight dudes ask them about TIFs and where to go to find one to fuck, as if it's a big joke to these gay guys. I suspect they're just relieved they don't have to deal with these TIFs trying to bother so they'll gladly pimp them out to male predators. Sad but true. I have watched them prey on these women, and couldn't do anything about it.

I gave up on warning my TIF and female nonbinary friends (bc yeah these dudes love theythems too. It's all of the desperation but way less of the T effects) about these predators. They refused to listen bc it didn't fit with their delusions that they're not female. If they're not female, they can't be victims of these predators! If these sexual predators were going after transmen and nonbinaries bc they want pussy from a girl it completely contradicted their own delusions and mental illness. And they soooooo desperately wanted to be wanted by a gay man to validate themselves that they refused to consider these were not homosexual men.

As much as these predators are disgusting, these women are digging their own graves, sadly. They will not listen. At all. It keeps happening because they are so desperate for external validation from men. And because so many of them are often isolated, autistic, abused, or socially awkward/stunted, have no concept of gay life and sex except from their fantasies, porn, and fanfiction, and they have very little social and sexual experience at all, especially in assessing sex partners and setting boundaries in sexual situations. It makes them hugely vulnerable to this extra, sadistic predation by these men. But they refuse to admit any of this. And they want to continue their attempts at rape by deception as well. Vicious cycle.

I would also like to say, for all these women getting double mastectomies to avoid being sexualized and objectified as a female and thinking it somehow makes them immune to being perceived as a female/fuckhole, this shows it doesn't stop men. They do not care if you don't have tits. They don't care if you have hairy legs and short hair. They care that you are weak and vulnerable to their manipulation (obvious by your mental illness) and that they can shove their dicks in you, often in extremely degrading ways they can't get away with with other girls. You are still female to everyone. No one is buying this, even if they play along like they are. If you no longer have a vagina to plow into, well you're still not a man to them. That's not why they don't chase you. You're just a gross, disfigured and thus useless woman to them.

It is just so awful on every side of this.

Jesus Christ. This girl was exploited by everybody, except for her parents, who were villainized for literally nothing. It's opposite world.

this is one the scariest things i’ve ever read. to everyone in the tags talking about this being cult behaviour and ideology, that’s completely right, but this situation has something absolutely no other cult has ever had: complete institutional buy in from bodies that normally help *extract* people from cults. this is an insanity on an unprecedented scale and scope. this poor poor girl, and her poor mother.

I dont even understand how any of this was possible, this is terrible and terrifying.
