An important article written by three primary care physicians (Erika Bliss, Joan Fleischman and Michele Gomez) to dispel the disinformation about abortion that is being spread by anti-abortion groups.
Jewel is a student in her early 20s who lives in Texas. When her doctor confirmed she was pregnant, Jewel felt panicked. She knew it wasn’t the right time for her to have a child, and that abortion was illegal in her state.
Fortunately, Jewel had resources. After doing her research, she packed a bag and flew to New York City, where her sister lives. From there, the two women came to see one of us — Joan Fleischman, a family medicine doctor who has been providing abortions in her small practice in New York City for over 20 years.
Jewel, who asked to be identified by her middle name, told Dr. Fleischman about her experience in Texas. Medical staff members “were trying to push a happy pregnancy, while I was miserable and crying,” she said. Jewel sensed her doctor was afraid to even talk about other options because the doctor feared losing her license.
Dr. Fleischman performed an ultrasound, which dated the pregnancy between five and six weeks. She discussed Jewel’s options and, after confirming that Jewel wanted to end the pregnancy, completed a manual uterine aspiration procedure. This method uses a hand-held device and takes a few minutes to complete in a regular exam room.
Dr. Fleischman then conducted a routine tissue examination. This involves rinsing the tissue with water using a fine sieve. She identified decidual tissue, or uterine lining, as well as a gestational sac, the visible evidence of the pregnancy. At this stage of pregnancy, the embryo is not typically visible to the naked eye.
Afterward, she offered to show Jewel the early pregnancy tissue. Jewel told Dr. Fleischman that it wasn’t what she expected. “I thought you were going to bring in something that was shaped like a little fetus or something, and it was not that at all,” Jewel said.
Primary care clinicians like us who provide early abortions in their practices have long known that the pregnancy tissue we remove does not look like what most people expect. […] It’s important to us to counter medical misinformation related to early pregnancy because about 80 percent of abortions in the United States occur at nine weeks or earlier. So much of the imagery that people see about abortion comes from abortion opponents who have spent decades spreading misleading fetal imagery to further their cause.

In amidst all of the news coverage on the Queen’s funeral and Charles’s coronation, I don’t want this to disappear:
“…version included a commitment to repeal laws that “allow harmful practices, or restrict women’s and girls’ … sexual and reproductive health and rights, bodily autonomy”.”
“…very unclear as to why the sections on sexual and reproductive health were withdrawn at such a late stage and apparently with no consultation or discussion.””
The article is from July — (and Liz Truss is now officially Prime Minister) — but this matter has not been resolved, and there’s a suspiciously little amount of coverage on it. This is being done very, very quietly and honestly the Queen’s death has made everything worse because all news coverage is on that.
For context, this is a part of the Bill Of Rights which would replace the Human Rights Act in the UK if passed, so you can understand that this is a Big Deal.
Nothing may come of it, but I just want to raise awareness — even if you’re not from the UK or have no interest in politics — that this is what the shitty government is doing. We’ve seen what happened with Roe v Wade, and although this isn’t a ban on abortion, it’s the first step towards one.

“We know this bill is necessary because this is a perilous time for the ability of people to have the freedom of choice that they have enjoyed for decades,” Gov. Jay Inslee said.
The bill signing comes just days after the Legislature in neighboring Idaho approved a bill that allows lawsuits by potential family members to enforce a ban on abortions performed after six weeks of pregnancy.
Conservative legislatures in several states have either passed or proposed new abortion restrictions in anticipation of possible changes to the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court.
Washington’s measure, which takes effect in June, prohibits the state from taking any action against an individual seeking to end their pregnancy or for assisting someone who is pregnant in obtaining an abortion.
The language is in response to a Texas law, which took effect last September, and which bans abortion after roughly six weeks of pregnancy and makes no exceptions in cases of rape or incest. The enforcement of the law is left up to private citizens, who can collect $10,000 or more if they bring a successful lawsuit against a provider or anyone who helps a patient obtain an abortion.
On Tuesday, Idaho’s Legislature sent a bill to Republican Brad Little that is modeled off the Texas law. The measure bans abortion after six week of pregnancy and allows the father, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles of a “preborn child” to each sue an abortion provider for a minimum of $20,000 in damages within four years of the abortion.
A handful of states have put forward similar legislation copying the Texas law, but Idaho’s version appears to have advanced the furthest.
“To the citizens of Idaho, if Idaho will not stand up for your constitutional rights, we will,” Inslee said before signing the bill.
If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade entirely, the decision on whether to keep abortion legal would fall to the states.
New Jersey recently became the 15th state to protect the right to abortion in state law, according to the Guttmacher Institute, an abortion rights think tank. A measure in Colorado has passed the House there and awaits action in the Senate.
Elizabeth Nash, a state policy analyst with the group, said that California, Connecticut, New Jersey and New York all have legislation pending related to preventing people from suing providers and supporters, similar to the new Washington law.
if you're from Ukraine, you have a uterus and don't want to be pregnant:
1. First of all AVOID AT ANY COST people and sites that have the name of "Ordo Iuris" or "pro-prawo do życia" (translate: pro-life). If you see a logo of fetus inside a heart, run.
Pro-prawo do życia foundation informed that one woman from Ukraine contacted them, asking for abortion. She barely spoke polish, which they admitted without any shame, that's why she thought that if they talk about abortion, they can provide it. They informed that they "explained children are not killed in Poland" and that now she's "in a safe place where no harm can come to her and her baby". I don't have words for how fucking inhuman it is to manipulate traumatized woman into carrying pregnancy she's not ready for since she's a refugee with no finances.
2. If you need abortion, contact:
Ciocia Basia (abortion in Berlin; they can be found on facebook and theor email is [email protected])/ Ciocia Czesia (abortion in Czech Republic)
Abortion without borders (all of the above cooperate with them)
They will give you information on how to perform safe abortion with right medicaments or will help to travel abroad.
3. If anyone would try to threat you, remember than in Poland it is still legal to do abortion yourself, that's why it's mostly done with pills. Don't let them manipulate you. Fuck these people. You're not evil for needing abortion.

Aborcyjny Dream Team (польська організація)
Ciocia Basia (аборт в Берліні, Німеччина; їх можна знайти на Фейсбуці, електронна пошта: [email protected]) / Ciocia Czesia (аборт в Чехії)
Abortion without borders (організації вище співпрацюють з цією)

Aborcyjny Dream Team (польская организация)
Ciocia Basia (аборт в Берлине, Германия; их можно найти на Фейсбуке, электронная почта: [email protected]) / Ciocia Czesia (аборт в Чехии)
Abortion without borders (организации выше сотрудничают с этой)
Where women’s lives are disposable.
Dr. Willie Parker, who is trained as a gynecologist and OBGYN, is a hero for the pro-choice movement because he’s honest about the undiscussed aspects of getting (or not getting) an abortion. Watch how he gives a consultation.
That last statement about regret is so important, because so many people don’t understand what it is or what causes it. Anti-choicers exploit this by manipulating pregnant people and creating doubt, which only increases the likelihood of regret, no matter what decision the pregnant person makes. You know what is best for you, even if it takes some time to figure it out.
Willie Parker is a HERO among common people!
Dr. Parker is one of the few things I like about Alabama and we are so fortunate to have him here.
These tweets are from Dara Kass. She’s an MD. Please take her advice on how to deal with this current situation. Read. Take notes. Memorize it. And protect yourselves.
All of you.
I only ever see this truncated version but am always curious about what came after, so I looked it up on Google Books. Here’s what happened next. It’s important to be honest.
...
“But no one does free prenatal care and births.”
“How about Dr. Abott? He’s always preaching publicly about the evils of abortion.”
In this case, it worked. Dr. Abott provided her prenatal care and birth without charge, although he reminded her of his noble gesture at every visit. The young woman came by several times to let us know how things were going.
“He always moans about being tricked into the deal,” she told us. Then goes off on these tirades against abortion.”
“Abortion is evil! What do you mean you mean you expect us to actually do something for pregnant women who have no resources???”
An update, guys. This is getting worse!
Spread the message!
Vote, god damnit, America!
Support each other!
And to all my sisters out there - don't give up, fight!
And I kindly remind you that the President of Poland - Andrzej Duda (Anżej Dupa), said that we, the LGBTQA+ folks aren't people, we are an ideology, so fuck him and the "government"
I’m so happy for them 💜 Our lives, our choice!
but meanwhile in texas….
Gotta grab on tight to the good news when it comes! So happy for South Korean women!!
abortion law in Poland was already the strictest in Europe, abortion was allowed in only 3 cases:
another problem is that there is something called "conscience clause" among Polish doctors which means that they can deny a patient certain treatment if it's against their conscience or beliefs (yes, it mostly applies to conservative, catholic doctors). some doctors went as far as not telling women about foetal defects until it was too late to terminate pregnancy. what's more, abortion in case of rape happens very rarely, since it's difficult to prove rape in the eyes of Polish law.
in 2019, only 1100 legal abortions took place in Poland, a country populated by 38 milion people. 98% of these abortions happened because of foetal defects.
Polish women will be forced to give birth to children with basically no chance to live. they will be tortured physically and mentally. rich women will be able to visit neighbouring countries to have abortion there but there are plenty of women who will have unsafe, illegal abortions, endangering their lives.
there are protests happening all over the country. not for the first time though, we've been protesting abortion ban for few years now. there's a sense of solidarity among us but the truth is, we're afraid.
