There is no greater horror to an avid reader than the sudden realization that the pages of the book you're REALLY FUCKING ENJOYING are dwindling down FAR TOO RAPIDLY for all the plot threads to be solved in time....

..... except by the twin realizations that not only is your book the first in a series.....

...... THE NEXT BOOK ISN'T EVEN CLOSE TO BEING OUT YET.

I couldn’t find any fanfics or head-canons for Tristan and Morana and I am a sucker for angst and make-believe scenarios so here we go with an idea that took root and will not leave my head-

#1 Tristan X Morana

Years have passed, and the Caine siblings have reunited. But the reunion is fraught with unspoken tensions. Lyla’s trauma has twisted her perception of Morana, and now she can barely look at her without feeling an acute sense of loss—a haunting reminder of the life she could have had if she had been saved from the horrors that shaped her.

Tristan, the most perceptive of the siblings, doesn’t just sense Lyla’s pain; it consumes him. The desire to give Lyla the security she never had becomes his unspoken mission, and it tears at him, fueling a growing conflict within. He wants to protect her, to shield her from any more pain, but he doesn’t know how.

Subtly, almost imperceptibly, Tristan begins to change. He pulls back in small, silent ways: avoiding eye contact, stepping away from Morana in public, and downplaying their bond whenever Lyla is near. The shifts are so subtle they might have gone unnoticed by anyone else, but Morana is sharp, and she feels every inch of Tristan’s retreat.

Morana, ever the understanding one, tries to accept the distance, but beneath her calm lies a quiet sense of betrayal. It isn’t her fault that she escaped unscathed all those years ago. And yet, the weight of Tristan’s struggle feels like a punishment for something beyond her control. One day, Morana reaches her breaking point. She makes the decision she never thought she would: she leaves.

Disappearing without a trace, Morana vanishes into the digital shadows. A master of technology, she covers her tracks flawlessly, severing ties with her old life and becoming a ghost. Years pass without a word. Tristan and Lyla are left to grapple with her absence. Lyla finds solace in the space left behind, using the time to confront her own demons. Tristan, on the other hand, retreats into himself, present but distant—alive, but only just.

Everything changes the day Amara needs Morana. A crisis pulls Morana back into the open, and she reappears for her friend, but she is not the Morana who left. This version of her is colder, distant, and utterly detached from Tristan. She is no longer hurt or angry—just indifferent.

What follows is a delicate dance, a relentless push and pull as Tristan struggles to tear down the walls Morana has built around herself. He fights to reclaim the bond they once shared, to revive what was lost. But Morana is no longer willing to be found so easily, and Tristan must confront the deepest parts of himself if he ever hopes to bridge the chasm between them.

i genuinely think that the shift from the old marauders to the new one where every straight ship even the canon and most important one (i.e jily) and that whole jegulus/all the other made up ships that make no sense come from a place of fetish. yall LOVE to turn characters into little stereotypes and that whole constant obsession w homosexuality is not helping any cause. most of view view homosexual/queer relationships as more angsty or interesting in a way that’s so strange to me. ships could follow the most standard plot line but still be considered angsty cus they’re queer and why is that? this fandom has taken such a strange turn.

you are making sexuality such a strong and central point in a character importance more than any other trait of their character. and those head canons just end up erasing the most important things about these characters

james potter was a strong and good man. he developed from his arrogant teenage self into a good man fighting for a good cause. but now you made him into a twink that is in love with a death eater/ a member of the family that abused his best friend all his life. james and sirius’s relationship was a central point of their characters. and james’s love for lily is a central point as well??????

sirius being turned into a overly feminine gay drama queen, even though what WAS important about him was his loyalty his strength and his honor??? but all of that was forgotten. HE CAN BE GAY WITHOUT ERASING HIS ORIGINAL PERSONALITY. stop painting him into a stereotype of a gay man.

regulus black is getting the recognition that is to be given to sirius. his character was not some brave rebel vigilante that fought for justice. he was a pureblood supremacist.he was a deatheater. yes he is important to the story but he was not what you made him.

lily evans is the most important character of the series. she’s the reason it exists. her and james’s love is the center point. but it was pushed away by you people to focus on your strange fetishized view of gay men. this MAJOR character whose love for her son and husband literally MADE the story got cast away as a secondary character.

important topics like sirius’sabusive family, lily and james’s courage and love….was remplaced by ridiculized view of characters

make characters gay cus we don’t know anything about them yes okay that’s why wolf star was a major part of the fandom. but the complete shift of every single characters identity is just bullshit.

Okay…I feel like Kamran is Adam but with a personality, an interesting inner monologue, and a moral compass.

Though he remains quite similar to Adam, in the pent up pool of anger that makes his whole body vibrate.

I am 40% through book 1 and both him and Alizeh have me so intrigued. The writing is almost lyrical. Tahereh has such a way with words.

Also, I know there is someone by the name of Cyrus who is supposed to be another main character but for now I am really puzzled as to how he’d fit.

Also also, I love Hazan. He is Kenji-coded and I am here for it.

The more I read of PD the more it feels like she needs to surround herself with content, authors, friends that know a thing or two about mutual respect, writing for substance, women with backbone and in general possessing two working brain cells.

I am reading Corrupt and it truly feels like Rika is a fever dream concocted to mock women everywhere. The same old trope of an emotionally unavailable man-child with a girl who is happy to be his push-around-toy is losing its lustre.

These are college going kids? This is a FMC who is oh-so-interested in psychology as a field of study? Has PD met real college going adults or for that matter real people? This downward decline through credence and devil’s night series is aggravating. She can do better. She has, with birthday girl.

Disclaimer: I enjoyed reading the OG Fall Away series, Birthday Girl and Punk 57.

The only scene I am living for, which can rival Tristan and Luna’s reunion, is one where Tristan and Dainn have the talk.

Lives will change. My squeal would be heard for miles. Every bookmark and tab in history will find its place in the book to mark the epic showdown.

I don’t want Tristan to be understanding. I don’t want Dainn to be anything but The Shadowman in that aftermath. As corny as it may sound I want The predator to speak with The shadowman and not Tristan and Dainn, at least for the most.

I want the hostility, the I-dont-like-you-but-cant-kill-you-because-it-would-hurt-lyla rage and the hilarity of it. And I want Dante to be the drama queen that fans the flames. It may not fit the plans Runyx has but a girl can dream.

Currently reading: Not in love

And I think the title summarises my feelings precisely. And before anyone points it out-

Yes, I knew this was different than Ali’s other books.

Yes, I did go in with my expectations managed.

No, I do not mind the smut.

Now that we have all that out of the way, here is my gripe-

I am almost 40% through and I am yet to encounter anything that can be remotely labelled chemistry. Erotic romance doesn’t negate chemistry, in fact it is quite the essential ingredient. And I am not talking about chemistry between the main characters (even though it sure is a messy plate) but even the side characters, the friends, the supporting cast and so forth.

Ali’s seamless dialogues that are full of wit, mirth, quirkiness are painfully missing and its not for lack of trying. She has tried but it just hasn’t landed so far.

The plot twist can be seen from miles and miles away. But I reckon we don’t read these books for the plot but the characters, the science, the unique something that makes Ali’s FMCs one of the key things that stand out. But here? Rue and Eli are so unidimensional.

I get it she doesn’t emote but that doesn’t mean she has to be a blank slate, cardboard cutout of a robot even during intimate emotionally toned scenes. And Eli, well his inner monologue is just painful. It appears he is only into her because she is pretty and presents a challenge. There is no real reason for the obsession. Its all so insta-lusty its hilarious. And even that isn’t done well. The intimate scenes are a pain to read, and this is coming from someone who has never had major issues with Ali’s writing in this regard in the past.

I will continue reading but I gotta say so far Ali has missed the mark of an off-beat erotic romance.

Hot Take-

Twisted Game, Lies, Hate >>>> Twisted Love

Hear me out-

The main reason is Alex. He is such a cardboard cutout of a character. Sure, I get he is not emotionally mature or has trauma or is reserved but there is a fine line between being that and exhibiting a personality akin to a rusty microwave.

A fact that becomes glaringly obvious once Rhys and Josh come into picture. I am not counting Christian, who barring his dry humour and flashes of emotion, feels like an upgraded version of whatever primitive software Alex is.

I swear to god it feels like the darkverse books are laced with an overdose of something that was just lightly sprinkled in the twisted series.

Cherry on top? Each FMC is a force to be reckoned with!

What’s a poor girl and her sleep schedule to do!
