I have a lore related question (since I can’t bring myself to think about Aelin inside that coffin😫)So I still don’t understand how magic works for the witches. In eos manon said they can only use their power once aka the yielding. But now I’m doing a reread and sarah said they were able to fly on brooms. Then magic stopped working yet they still had their inhuman abilities.Potions and charms were also mentioned then never brought up again. And then there are the witch mirrors. Any thoughts?

Yeah, it is definitely confusing. The yielding is definitely their only proper sort of power that is “shown”. Perhaps being a witch gives you those powers automatically and that magic (the flying, the immortality, the seer aspects) exists outside of the “law” of magic Sarah has created.

But it’s also likely the witches haven’t been entirely fleshed out because how could Rhiannon put a curse on the lands like that if they don’t have magic. There’s a lot of inconsistencies with the witch magic and perhaps that will be addressed in KoA. I’d love clarification on why certain powers/witches have those capabilities!!

But did Rhiannon yield to put the curse on the western wastes?

I always feel like the witches power is contained by their iron. And if they didn't have iron they would be immensely powerful, but the iron kinda grounds them too and keeps them connected to erilea. This is just my interpretation obviously.

Also would love to know more on how the witches work rather that just speculation because not knowing makes my mind wander 😉😂.

In hof, Dorian and Sorscha talk about iron and it's ability to negate magic (ch26).

What if Dorian needs Manon's Iron to help ground him? Help him control his magic? Just like Rowan's wind and Ice helps calm/aid/help/grounds Aelin.

Also does the iron in the ironteeth witches negate their magic and when they yield it's really them melting their iron and releasing the magic that has always been inside them. Acting like iron bars to contain it.

Ironteeth history in The Assassin and the Desert (tab) when Ansel talks about her homeland in Briarcliff/the flatlands.

---

“But when the Ironteeth Clans destroyed the kingdom, they say the last Crochan Queen cast a spell that turned the land against any that flew under the banners of the Ironteeth—so that no crops would grow, the animals withered up and died, and the waters turned muddy. It’s not like that now, though. The land has been fertile ever since the Ironteeth Clans journeyed east . . . toward your lands.”

Ansel of Briarcliff

What if Ansel is a Cochran witch too?

In Empire of Storms, when Manon meets Ansel she says "you might as well be signing an alliance with Erawan, too, if you're working with this ... person."

Does manon suspect she is not a person?

Then... Ansel's response to Manon...

"Ansel's face drained of colour at the iron teeth, the nails. And Aelin remembered the story the assassin-turned-queen had once told her, whispered stop rolling desert sands and beneath a carpet of stars. A childhood friend - eaten alive by an iron teethwitch."

Does she turn white because Manon is a direct threat if she knew Ansel was a Cochran witch? Is the reason she has had so many encounters with witches because she has been evading them and death?

“A cry went up from the witches, save for the Thirteen – who stayed cool and quiet. They did not need to cheer, for they were immortal and infinite and gloriously, wonderfully deadly.” - Sarah J. Maas

I wanted to do something fun with these lovely cosplayers! This was some amazing practice for colors and group pose which I don’t do very often.

Thanks twinnie, also these asks were fun but not fun questions. hahahahahaha Mwa.8) Babies - yea or nay? If you had to pick one couple to have a mini, who would it be?NAY, PLEASE NAY.

Only in an epilogue.

I don’t hate kids I just think it adds unnecessary complications to an already jam backed book and it doesn't need it. I would be so disappointed if there are babies when the world is ending and battles to win.If i had to pick..... grumble mumble... grumble...

Yrene, she seems the most ready for that if she needed to, but I hope shes smarter than that and realises that peace time is a better time to have kids. Especially with the weird magic bond thing going on that means said kid would be left with zero parents if something went wrong. 10) Will Manon be able to regain the Witchlands? How?

No.

hahaha. She might gain her throne but shes going to have to fight Ansel for that territory and I’m pretty sure Ansel ain’t going to give it up without a fight. The witches are interesting, I feel like we are going to loose the different branches depending on who sides with who and get a new breed of witches. So yea, I don’t think that they are going to be in the Wastes. I don’t think they are going to get their brooms back either. Ironwood might have a new purpose. Maybe they die out? Its hard for them to have kids as it is. I really don’t have any concrete ideas for the witches.

14) Aelin said that Terrasen would need someone like Elide in its future - what kind of role do you think she should have?

That sort of Quote worries me because its like its trying to foreshadow a new leadership, and Aelin is preparing for her death. *cue me crying NOOOOoooo in a period themed dress and saying “it isn’t so”* dramatically. always dramatically.

Ideally, Lorcan and Elide sort their shit out and they inherit Terrasen and rule together and my ship gets a happy ending. You know if everyone else dies. But if this happens it means Aelin is dead. and I don’t actually want her to die. So Elide would make an amazing head of foreign affairs or manage the spy’s or something cool where she gets to be sneaky and have two masks and use her intelligence but also be a lady.

Okay but consider this:

Cresseida and Petrah Bluebood are actually super reasonable for Ironteeth witches and they respect Manon.

So, I’m pretty sure they may follow Manon. They could be swayed to the Crochan Queen’s side because they don’t seem the type to relish and preach the ways the Blackbeak Matron and the Yellowlegs follow.

The Blueblood witches seem more inclined to ruling peacefully. They can be vicious as well - they’re witches - sure. But I think we have allies in the Bluebood witches.

Yes! This!

Also do you get the feeling that the iron teeth are going to evolve.

The yellow legs have such hatred in their hearts that they will stay with the valg and perhaps they have more valg in them, or that the blackbeaks will have to choose manon or the matron, and that will decide their fate for whether they live or die. Because ob. I think the valg are gonna be defeated and that means so are their allies.

And the blue bloods with their foresight and prophecy would only ever choose the winning side if they are smart - or at least the side that would give them the best advantage for continued survival.

Leaving the crochrans to come back to manon.

And the ironteeth witches everyone knows turn into a new breed with a new system.

...

Side note, kayla how am I going to get everything I want in one book? 😧😥 @rowaelinsmut

So there’s this theory that Manon’s iron is gonna melt when she helps forge the lock, and I’m all here for it. Mainly because I thought of this hc where Manon’s like depressed as hell about losing her iron nails so Aelin hits up that Melisande guy, who created her suit, and gets Manon like gloves made that act exactly like the gauntlets on her black suit thing. (If you don’t know what suit I’m talking about Arobynn has it made for her in The Assassin’s Blade and she gets it back in QoS.) So basically it’ll be like her iron nails where she will flick her wrist and iron comes out of the gloves. Anyway, Happy Easter and Happy April Fools!

Love this.

And that theory brain of mine has taken it a step further...

if the witches iron melts- will it be just manon or all witches ? Since she has the blood of all witches flowing through her veins.... I can see it being a link or conduit or some such for storytelling purposes.

And if all the witches loose their iron would they become fae? Would they loose what makes them part valg? So if all valg get vanished maybe the witches stay because they loose their valg essence! That would be so cool. I don't know if they would loose their long life spans because fae have long life spans too.
