3 things I learned while being in a fandom.

1. You can teach yourself new skills for fun and they can be transferable to real life - like making edits/ using programmes/ using html to make the blog look nice.

2. You can actually meet nice people online and build friendships across oceans.

3. Being creative isn’t limited to a few or exclusive and fandom is a way to express this, through words, images, discussions and give them life.

Anyone want to add on? I’m feeling nostalgic for the “good ol’ days”…

Hello!

Have you read TOG?

If so, did you get it around the time Rowan appeared?

I wanted to know what that era was like in the fandom when Rowan emerged and all Chaolaena's theories turned to ashes. thanks for the previous answers.

I am quite distressed, I hope for years Elucien healed together.

I have read the TOG series but unfortunately, I only came across SJMs books in 2020 so I missed out on everyone's thoughts when SJM shifted from Chaol to Rowan.

I'm sorry I can't help in that regards but I'll tag a few other bloggers in case they can provide a little more insight!

(but I am in agreement with your last thought, Elain and Lucien deserve their stories to be told and SJM really has written them as two individuals who would be so complimentary to one another).

Sorry hardly around these days haha.

Story time.

I read tog, and then com. And had to wait by my lonesome for hof. I wasn’t in fandom then.

When I read com I was shipping dorian and Celeana, I didn’t mind Chaol but I never thought of him as endgame. I was always sure it would switch up in book 3 (yes I started these books when it was supposed to be a trilogy). And then the ending of com in isolation was just telling me dorian was endgame because chaol was out.

I waited a wee while, then hof came out and I could tell that Rowan was endgame. The tension, the heat, the fact he looked like legolas and I knew SJM liked legolas. It seemed clear to me. Then I clicked that book 3 wanst the end, freaken SJM had changed it so Then I waited and waited and read qos, and loved queen of shadows and waited some more and went wtf! She has another book series! I refuse to read it! I want more tog! And did a mini Sjm boycott all by myself.

Then empire of storms came out - I cried, had a melt down, read Acotar and acomaf because !!! Wtf was empire of storms! And I needed more, and it wasn’t coming because of some stupid other series and I wanted it now! So I read acotar and Then I joined the fandom. Lol. Because it satisfied my itch of trying to figure out what was happening next.

I don’t know if that helped at all. I wasn’t in fandom at that time - just getting mad by myself. 😆

ACOTAR Fandom Demographics Survey

Hello ACOTAR friends and fans! I'm conducting an informal survey on the demographics of the ACOTAR fandom. It is completely anonymous, but please don't spam the survey or take it multiple times.

The questions are looking mostly at the age range, gender and sexuality, preferred characters, and preferred ships among ACOTAR fans.

I'd love for this to reach ALL sections of fandom, so I would really appreciate everyone reblogging this and sharing it with others! Feel free to share it on twitter/IG/tiktok/etc as well. I'm not on any of those social medias and don't have that kind of reach.

This survey will close on Tuesday, January 31st. Results will be posted soon after.

This survey was originally constructed for ATLA fandom and created by @aucatgirl.

10 years since the release of Throne of Glass

6 years since joining the tumblr fandom

5 years since making life long friendships

This series and fandom might be crazy at times, but I think about where it has brought me. The friendships with people all over the world who have similar interests. The conversations in mid afternoon (late at night for them) and voice chats and texts. The accent challenges, the events, the creations.

The creations, well - this fandom encouraged me to write theories when I was terrified that people would be mean. We collaborated and expanded on ideas.

I started writing fan fiction because of these books and realised that one kid in school who said my writing was boring turned me away from something I quite enjoy and I’m actually not bad at.

I learned how to edit photos and make edits. Using effects I never knew before. A skill I use now in my job! All from fandom.

So while I’m less active now, it’s been such an important journey for me.

So thank you Sarah.

Your books have sent me on a path that I never expected when I picked them up but I am so grateful for all of it.

Fire Night [Elucien]

A/N: Written for a request sent to @sjmkinkmeme : “humorous NSFW AU where instead of Feyre killing the wolf and being taken by Tamlin it’s Elain instead. The setting is Calanmai and while Tamlin is off picking his maiden Elain and Lucien get swept up in the magic” The first two paragraphs were directly taken from chapter 10 in acotar and adjusted to Elain, and a couple of lines of dialogue after that are also straight from the book so fully belong to sjm. I made it so that Lucien would find Elain when the three males find her out of the manor instead of Rhys.

Some thoughts on the recent CC3/acotar spoilers

I have to say I am really struggling to understand why people are so upset over the crossover after yesterday's youtube video?

I don't think it gave us anymore info that we couldn't already glean, it mostly just told us that CC3 is next and the book will be partially Bryce in prythian and partially things in Midgard. Which many of us already assumed.

I respect everyone's right to decide to stop reading these books whenever it gets annoying - I'm not here for people sticking around and becoming anti nor am I here for people ever having to read something they don't enjoy. Especially when its fiction that is mostly written for enjoyment.

I do wish that she had said something about whether or not readers will need to read both. Because that's important to a lot of people and they shouldn't need to. And some people just don't love Crescent City, and the readership across the series is not necessarily the same people. So...her sales will likely be affected but I guess it's worth the risk. CC sells very well, as does acotar.

But I guess I just don't see how this spells disaster and doom for either series (aside from us waiting longer for acotar 5 and that IS very very annoying), nor do I really understand the criticisms of SJM for doing this. People are saying it feels fanficy and cringe and while I see that, it's odd to me when so many of us read/write fanfic and when SJM has generally produced books that may be full of tropes but which also reinvent those tropes in an interesting way. See: the mates trope.

I'm especially confused because...we have...known this was in the cards in some form for a while? It's been linked since KoA and while she expanded on that since then, there have been many theories swirling about the Maas megaverse since then, and especially after CC1 and Acosf.

I mean maybe it could suck and maybe CC3 will be terrible and acotar5 will suffer for it and I would be lying if I said I wasn't upset about waiting longer for the next acotar books. I really, really am. And I guess if asked me to make this decision I would have said "light crossover." Ie, more indication of the worlds being linked, but with not much character interactions inter-series.

But at the same time, acotar desperately needs better plot injected into it, and it has since the ending of acowar. If the events of CC3 help the acotar plot, we might actually get a book about Gwynriel that has a decent plot aside from the romance.

Look I loved acosf. Like looooved it the first time. I had issues with Feysand as we all did, but I LOVED Nessian so much. On a second read, the glaring plot issues stood out more since I wasn't just reading for the Nessian development.

But I'm not excited for the acotar plots aside from the couples, and I'd like to be.

So I'm keeping an open mind on all of this, while also being a bit upset about waiting longer for acotar.

And frankly, it is frustrating that the fandom has so little faith in SJM's capabilities. I think we all know that her biggest flaw as a writer is that she's uneven - acosf is a great in some areas, terrible in others. But she is capable of writing books that we enjoy and which keep us engaged and invested. So...CC3 could be one of those!!

Me too.

As much as I've theorised the worlds are linked. It didn't mean I actually wanted that. I would have been fine with "light crossover" like the fade to black of crossover. But I will also adapt to this like each story as it comes.

I still want a Mor book.

I'd love to see more of Ruhn.

Why not celebrate the things we like about her writing and enjoy them like we used to do.

For me what most make sense is the IC consulting Merril about her research then Merril calling Gwyn and they all reunited which will lead Gwyn and Az to be close which will lead to their book buuut SJM is so unpredictable that I’m afraid I mean who would guess she would throw this marvel multiverse thing? So I’m a little afraid 😧

Yeah this is why I'm always like "GUYS PUMP THE BREAKS WAIT"

I don't *want* to be Debbie Downer about theories but also 😬 this is sjm we are talking about. The theorizing about what will happen next can be fun, but this is partly why I don't put a ton of stock in them.

That said, there are some theories or speculation that have more support than others. Like Az being heavily involved in the upcoming cc3/acotar5 plot is not based on single words that happened once that we decided to search in our ebooks. Him being next is based on a combination of plots, world, history, and character development, many of which are not about ships, but where the story seems to be headed naturally.

Avatar

tbh the way that @rayonfrozenwings was discussing the links between CC and acotar years ago and picking up all the hints makes me think that some theories can be trusted!

but always with a grain of "sjm will do as she pleases" salt thrown in lol

I would say there is a 50/50 hit rate too. I was a prolific theoriser but that means some theories hit the nail on the head and the others don't. haha.

I feel like its luck of the draw with a theory panning out - if you at least think about all the possibilities then you get to have fun exploring all the ways it would go. When people become so invested in a single theory that they hold it close - they get so disappointed when it doesn't pan out. It's like becoming invested in a Ship - doesn't work, have a cry - same thing.

And from my point of view, as myself having tried to write a fic. Getting 20K words in and then realising that it fizzles out to nothing because I don't agree with a location or direction - SJM could easily change the details coming up. Even if its foreshadowed in earlier texts.

The extra Excerpt that came with the original printed ACOFAS novella for ACOSF mentioned that Nesta would be training in the illyrian mountains - the actual sentence in ACOSF upon release was that they were going to train. full stop. SJM realised she needed to change something and did. I would not be surprised if there is printed information from earlier books where SJM has gone - nope that doesn't work anymore and switched it up. It's her prerogative to do so.

I do kinda love that fic writers can be like "I can cross over universes and write whatever I want" because the actual lore from the book is so messed up. It makes my little chaotic heart happy.

what's the most annoying theory you have seen about acotar5

Hey Nonnie!

Well, you must know I love a good theory. Sadly the fandom has been lacking. I've been pulling my hair out.

If you have seen my vague blogs - theories need some form of evidence from the books otherwise they are just headcanons.

And I don't know if people who are currently active in the fandom know this?

Headcanons are awesome - they can be whatever we want. They are wholey for Fandom to enjoy and relish and build upon. Theories are for predicting things that will happen based on evidence. Evidence. multiple pieces of evidence. Theories are all theoretical until proven or disproven. It's why our science concepts are theories - they are what they are until proven or disproven. So all current active theories are yet to be proven otherwise they are just canon and fact. anyway.... that's a rant for another day I haven't even gotten to your question yet.

We had a few good ones right after ACOSF released - like princessofmerchants had some amazing ones and was thoughtful in her theorising. I think there was one about the firebird and koschei.

I have hated a few.

I also run a theory blog called @sjm-fantheoryarchive and so I sometimes reblog theories. Some I like - but there are also ones I don't love. I reblog however because they have enough evidence from the book to be more than a headcanon. It means I also go hunting for theories for that blog

and so...... while I dont strongly HATE a specific one......

I hate a certain format that is currently popular.

And it makes me not want to read the theories.

It doesn't matter what the theory is I am instantly turned off. Its colour coding. I hate it with a passion. If your reader needs coloured names to read your theory then your argument is not persuasive enough on its own. I don't need it. Give me quotes and evidence. Not he said she said all paraphrased. So While I wont call out one specific theory if you are into theories then you will know some that I have either skipped reading or stopped reading and given up. There was one blog that had a total of 6 posts all colour coded and then when I went back to find it - it was gone. So I can't even tell you what it was.

nonnie, the ones I really don't like won't even be on the side blog if there isn't enough canonical evidence to support the theory. I just walk away and pretend it never existed.

World Theory

Contains spoilers for; ACOTAR, TOG, CC and the LOKI TV SERIES.

In October 2017 I posted one of my First major Solo theories. I found it by accident. It was potential evidence that Prythian and Erliea worlds were linked. I made this conclusion based on shifting coastlines. Using what I knew about global warming/cooling cycles, sea level rising and how the landscape can change over time.

This theory had a lot of discussion on it, we discussed parallel world theory, and differences in time and space and we talked about how the world could be the exact same world but also how it might not be.

At the time the post blew up and I was shocked. I received hate because “!!!THE WORLDS AREN’T THE SAME!!” Shouted some very vocal fans! And “HOW DARE I try to even think about writing crossover theory” shouted others (as much as someone can shout over text on a tumblr post). Luckily I had friends at the time who shared my excitement and in thinking it was potentially cool and could open up a range of opportunities for storytelling. Not all, some friends told me I was thinking too hard and it wasn't going to happen and I was fine with that - back then it was a bit of a jump to make. Excitement from other Fans did feel nice though.

However, In this post, I aim to share some evidence that points to the potential for parallel worlds. A connection between ACOTAR (Prythian), TOG (Erilea) and CC (Midgard). And what these parallel worlds might mean for us as we are reading SJM’s books.

In October 2017, I would have finished Tower of Dawn a Month before and I would have been in the Fandom for approximately a year. The connection to other worlds was mostly in the TOG series. The portal in TOG that Cain opened; and in CoM Celaena opened one and went through in search of Nehemia. In HoF there was talk of how creatures from other worlds could come through the deepest caves and when Rowan and Aelin were on the ice. In QoS the Sin-Eater God feels an awful lot like the bone carver we meet in ACOTAR. Then in ToD I was very excited. There was mention of portals that the Valg stepped through and how Maeve was the first to step through and then the three brothers made their own portal to follow her. How the Fae had fled from Antica and the Valg, finding sarcophagus, ancient ruins and strange mountains.

Then in ACOMAF and ACOWAR we had the Bonecarver tell us in his own words that he was from another place so long ago that the world would have long ago turned to dust. He also mentioned that he would have sided with a fae long ago if he could have. So I tried to find any possible connections between the series.

My theory was that actually Prythian and Erilea might be connected somehow. I had one tweet. One tweet from SJM that went against what the majority of people thought. People argued that they were separate series and had nothing to do with each other. It was this tweet: where she mentions the multiverse.

I sadly cannot find the original tweet on twitter as SJM appears to have cleared out a lot of her social media (lordy i’ve been in this fandom a long time). Her pinterest board has either been privatized/hidden or removed, her twitter is almost silent since 2015, and she is very careful about what she shares on instagram and in lives etc. But this is from the internet archives and google images.

So using this tweet and playing with maps of Erilea and Prythian I made this gif… (sadly i’ve thrown out my cut outs from that time, but here is a low quality gif from my original post.)

It shows a matching coastline for Prythian and Erilea. Mountainous regions in similar places and where there are great deserts in Erilea - in Prythian the ocean has swallowed these low lying areas up. No it’s not exact but our own coastline here changes over hundreds of thousands of years so it's not impossible.

So that was back then. In 2017, after the release of Tower of Dawn in Sep 2017.

This all happened BEFORE...

Before A Court of Frost and Starlight in May 2018 where we were reminded that Amren had a new body and wasn't from Prythian.

Before Kingdom of Ash in October 2018, where Aelin fell through multiple worlds, passing through Prythian and Lunathon.

Before Bryce closes all the open portals to Hel in Crescent City in March 2020.

Before Rhys saw a red star fall through the sky with his pregnant wife beside him in A court of Silver Flames in March 2021.

Before Nesta tested the harp and moved through space with it in A Court of Silver Flames (March 2021) and mentioned how she might also be able to move through time and that perhaps others had before her.

So, That's my introduction/above the cut - hailing back to where I've been and what we all know now. I’m pretty convinced that SJM’s worlds are all connected through parallel world theory and I’m going to explain why I think that.

First What do I mean when I say Parallel world theory?

If you have recently seen the Loki Series (spoilers - Sorry) - Then what I am about to explain might make more sense if you think of every single world as a variation of another world.
