Just wanted to drop this by before my sleep deprived brain forgets.
HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD
Remember when Bryce is describing Midgard and talks about how a portal opened about 15 thousand years ago?
Now. In one of the books of ACOTAR (can't remember if it was ACOMAF or ACOWAR) BUT, when Amren is telling her story she says that she came from a world in which she obeyed an All-Powerfull (God?) And she was somewhat an Angel. What if she came from the same place that those creatures that came to conquer Midgard. What if the Asteri are what Amren was?
I think that's how Sarah is going to conect the books. She will send Bryce after the 7th Asteri and somehow end up in Prythian.
Anyway...
I Just wanted to rent about my theorys for Crescent City and say that if Bryce and Hunt breaks up and go after other people, I will still love them. However I will probably adore the new pairing because I am Sarah's little bitch and she can destroy my heart after making them almost die for each other. I shiped.
You mean Amren with her silver eyes- maybe starlight silver?? Amren who in her true form appeared as a being of “light and fire”??? Gosh this theory has me shook
Also def agree on your Hunt/Byrce ideas. Like yeah I like them together, but I know Sarah could make it feel just as wholesome (maybe even more) if they became best buds instead of mates.
Oooh I like this theory. @rayonfrozenwings ? Theories are your jam, curious what you think?
Yeah I’m pretty sure Amren is a wraith like Vikotria, who can choose her own form but gets punished by the Asteri.... i Did think it was for a different reason and not ascending Mt Heron but both are options. I have a “Amren is a watcher angel” theory somewhere too.... I’ll have to find it. Let’s just say my theory of the interconnectedness of books continues to gain supporting evidence.
omg i have too many old theories. *facepalm* this one has a paragraph titled Amren Angels and the illyrians. Another set of angel theories.... Amren + the Prison - here 3.1 Highlords as descendants of Arch Angels - here 3.2 Fall of the Watcher Angels and Illyrian Origins - here 3.3
Though, were continuing to gain support for the interconnectedness of things - and we know wyrd gates exist, we know that the gates in CC/Lunathon used to let people through. In ACOFAS we learn about a tower on Ramiel that the illyrians feel connected to someone else (like the gates in Lunathon). We know that the worlds of Tog and ACOTAR had tunnels that connected to other worlds because both book series say so - the creature in the lake comes through, Alis mentions to Feyre I think. We know Mass has said that they are part of the same multiverse in a tweet. We know that in CC the Autumn King is looking at planets and studying them. The bone carver talks about worlds turning to dust and that his world isn't there anymore. That’s just the surface.
I’ve slacked off on the theory writing in the last year because its feeling more obvious that it's all connected - the next part is figuring out the order of events not that the worlds/series are connected if that makes sense. Part of me wonders if this is why “the world of Throne of Glass” keeps getting pushed back. It would contain spoilers for the other series’ to give a history of TOG so Im not realistically expecting it until after ACOTAR and CC are finished up.
If anyone wants to ask me about thoughts and theories im happy to answer, still here just less active. <3 <3 thanks for the tag @photofeesh :)
**Contains Crescent City Spoilers**
A post about Skin colour/tone in Crescent City: HOEAB
because I got Salty that people don’t read critically or pay attention (basically some people fall back on their default settings)... and I decided to find facts with the hope that people will accurately represent them in writing and art or try to at least not make the characters who aren't white - white.
People Described as “Pale” in relation to skin tone in Crescent City
- Danika ch5 “even her pale skin usually flushed with colour and health, seemed ashen”
- Maximus ( A Vampire) ch8
- A satyr they come across - (Pale skinned ch18)
- The demon, Kristallos (ch21)
- Briggs (ch35)
- Sabine (ch37, ch 43, 49)
- Viktoria (40)
- Aidas - “Pale skinned pretty boy” ch51
- The Harpy (ch73)
9 people. 9 white people. 9 people clearly stated. Sure some characters are not stated as being white or any other skin colour and they could totally be white - but is that just your default setting talking? I can't remember or source what Micah looks like other than having white wings for instance - Maybe on a second read I will find that out.
Some other references to the word “pale” are: they turned pale, they paled, impaled, the pale pink lace, pale green eyes etc.
Both Dark Skinned characters and light skinned characters turn pale. Here are some examples below.
- Tharion - “Tharion said nothing, his tan face going pale.” (TAN but still turning pale). (ch42) - Hunt - “Hunts face was pale” - Bryce - ch6 - “turns sickly pale” ch12 - Michah stares at Bryce and she turns pale that her freckles look like blood across her nose. ch26 - when she realises she is covered in blood - her face paled ch61- “her face slightly pale” ch50 - Ruhn paled
The ways sjm does describe skin in this book (all tones).
- Golden skin (Bryce) ,
- Golden skin (Connor),
- Tan skin (gorgeous daemonaki from crescent city: clothing optional edition),
- pale skin (Danika),
- golden skin (Reid - that human BF at the start),
- tanned skin (human at restaurant),
- dark brown skin (Juniper),
- near-translucent grey skin (demon - Kristallos),
- gold-dusted skin (Bryce ch6),
- golden skinned(Ruhn ch8),
- light brown skin (Hunt),
- pale skinned (Satyr),
- moon-skinned (Viper Queen),
- dark-skinned (Temple acolyte),
- brown skin (Juniper),
- tan skin (Bryce ch26),
- silky skin - soft skin and bare skin also bryce in ch 26,
- freckled skin (Ember),
- brown skinned (Randall),
- Golden Skin (Bryce),
- tan skin (Bryce),
- Golden skin (Helena -starborn),
- pale-skinned (Briggs),
- deep gold of his skin (Hunt),
- golden brown skin (Hunt),
- golden skin (Bryce),
- glowing brown skin (medwitch aka Hypaxia),
- pale skin (Viktoria),
- pale-skinned (Aidas),
- gold dusted brown skin (Hunt),
- tan skin (Hunt),
- Golden-brown skin (Hunt),
- brown skin (Randall),
- pale-skinned (Harpy),
- brown-skinned (Queen Hypaxia),
- Dark skinned (Female mer leader not the River Queen but could be a relation),
- mottled grey skin (Demon),
- and yes there are other descriptions, like smooth skin and flushed skin but I mostly left those out.
Other Body Part Descriptions to help describe Skin Colour
“Gold dusted Legs” - Bryce
“Stripped legs” - Juniper (remember she’s a fawn and has fuzzy fawn legs)
“the females tan face” - Fae woman at dinner
“light brown face” - Fury Axtar
“Golden brown face” - Hunt
“pale face twisted in a snarl” - Sabine
“Tharion said nothing, his tan face going pale” - Tharion
“Ithan’s tan face” - Ithan
“elegant brown face” - Hypaxia
I can go and look at other ways to describe white but I think that’s a good assessment to start. I’m sure there is more.
If they have to be endgame fine, but SJM need to make him way more interesting. He's a really forgettable guy compared to the others like Therion and Ruhn. Which is sad cause Rhysand and Rowan were such amazing leading male characters. Hunt just seems so bland next to them. I honestly could not tell you what he looked like except gray wings and muscles. Also Lehabah was my fave so I'm really upset she's gone so soon.
Yeah! Also Hunt has light brown skin. Just saying. *cough*
I feel like Hunt had this problem hanging over his head the whole book - his need to “atone” by killing for Micah, the threat of his contract being turned over to Sandriel - but it was solved with little to no consequence? Like? Hypaxia just Did It and all that stress and angst about having to kill for people who had him enslaved is just over? It doesn’t make his story feel as compelling or memorable as it could have. And beyond that backstory, he has like no real personality. I almost wish that he really had been planning to rebel and had stood up for the fact that he is ENSLAVED and maybe Bryce should idk, think that’s a bad thing and not just casually work for The Man.
tl;dr I’m pretty disappointed that the mass enslavement of humans was just brushed off the whole book.
I’m super sad that Lehabah is gone, I think I legit posted while reading that she was my favorite? Her and Danika. Whomp whomp, don’t get attached I guess.
Salty opinion to start - I feel like fandom as a whole doesn’t pay attention to what people look like while they are reading and then expect the fan art to fill in the gaps. The great thing about reading is that you get to use your imagination to use the clues and make them in your own mind. Urgh.
Sorry - pet peeve of mine there because I feel like in crescent city sjm actually tried to use more skin colour descriptions, more height descriptions and body shape descriptions. Each character looks and feels different - from the clues I picked up anyway.
So Hunt - He’s a warrior who stormed a mountain, has strong arms (a sjm trademark). Bryce comments on his ass. He wears a crown of thorns - it’s tattooed, referred to as a halo and also as a dark crown. I’m thinking his halo tattoo is dark in pigment according to that. His name is actually Orion -‘d he explains why his mother chose this. He has “dark eyes” also described as “black eyes”. He has large grey feathered wings - differing from Isiah who has pristine white ones. He has “common blood” literally one sentence is “she knew those grey wings, and the dark shoulder length hair, and the cut of those broad shoulders”…. like… what else do we need to know?
Anyway. Sorry. Tangent. Pet peeve. I’ll chill now. Here’s some things that might help people get into his character…
So with hunt - He’s always looked down on for being a bastard. He felt protective of his mother but she is also looked down upon. And I feel like his personality is formed by this “not being good enough” but at the same time I think all the other angel wing peeps are jealous of him. He’s got the most unique gift - lightning - and so much power. So in order for the asteri and other angels to put him in his place I feel like there is this emphasis on lineage and him not being good enough.
Next - He was manipulated by his first love and I’m pretty sure he woulda been young then (I can check properly this is just from memory at this point). An arch angel vs an angel. I don’t feel like that relationship was good. There is a massive power imbalance there. I mean - bryce talks about alphaholes the whole book - maybe hunts first love is a alphahole. He might worship her but I don’t know if she worshipped him back. Could be a super icky back story about power imbalance and abuse of power.
Hunt also is enjoying what he has in the apartment because he appreciates it. It’s like a sign that he cares. Maybe that’s his personality - he does things to show affection. It makes sense, since he stormed mt heron for his first love.
I feel like he wasn’t the focus in this book - he was there, but Bryce was the main character. There are clues for the future - like always with sjm, but he’s not the MC so we don’t get everything. We also have 3 books to learn about these people and their past. And why a demon thinks Hunts lineage is interesting. Ya know?
Encyclopedia friend to the rescue
echoing the whole bit about descriptions
SJM tried in this book, can we please not forget what people look like when for once she has actually described them pretty well!
Hunt has brown skin! It’s there in the text, either as light brown or brown or golden brown, and if I see one more white washed art of him I’ll scream. though tbh I’ve only seen one really bad one so…but I won’t @ the person who posted lol
i love everything you’ve said about power imbalance @rayonfrozenwings. It makes a lot of sense- Hunt has never had his own life, so maybe his personality will become more clear as he builds it.
@aelin-godkiller with a theme of abuse in SJM’s stories and I really do feel like Hunt’s story is going to be one of emotional manipulation to get him to do what they want. I don’t want it to be that because it will hurt me. But I also know SJM loves to see us in pain over her characters. haha. She cackled at the event I went to when she was talking about how people loved Tamlin in the start. cackled.
And yeah, with the descriptions thing- it doesn't take that much to find the answer in an e-book. I will look for anyone who doesn't have access to an e-book if they need to know someone's skin colour. Bryce is also *shock horror* not white. I’m not talking about character privilege or character attributes or the world history - literally just the way SJM describes their skin colour/wing colour/eye colour. And if a person creating something can get every other freaken detail right then there is no reason for skin colour to be wrong.
sorry not sorry.
*Crescent City Spoilers* *please don’t judge me for my rambling thoughts and horrendous grammar*
I really loved this book. Holy crap. But with that being said, this book was really just one big book of groundwork. It set up sooooo many things
