I can't believe you paid for an important blue checkmark, just be a schmuck like the rest of us.

Avatar

You’re just jealous that you don’t have Official Tumnlr Opinions, you have regular flavor which is so 2021

Avatar

Yeah I’m only regular tumblr, gotta pay for the b n switch out. It’s ok I don’t mind living in the past.

For each theory you are right about in cc3 and acotar5, you should buy two checkmarks

Lollll I can’t tell if this is because they would all be wrong and it’s a self burn or you want me to be poor but smug about it. 😆

at the risk of sounding..... dumb lol are there other Shadowsingers?

This is not dumb at all!

As far as we know, there aren’t any others. I think that’s part of the reason that the characters don’t really understand Az’s powers. It’s very rare to come across. But sjm said we will learn more about his shadows, so I assume we will get some questions answered!

Avatar

Dudeeeee what if a Valg prince is chilling in Az. And like… maybe there’s only one valg prince hanging round prythian jail cells or it was stuck and then bam - tortured soul yum yum yum new host. And so shadow singers are rare coz the parasite valg has to find a new person to infect. Something to think about.

If a Valg has infested Az to make him a shadowsinger then what has got a hold of Gwyn to make her a lightsinger

The asteri? Aren’t they creatures of light. Oh that would be an interesting combo.

omg i’ve never encountered someone that likes aelin but hates bryce but likes feyre? i feel like bryce and aelin are soo similar???? please elaborate!!

Yes, I get where you are coming from! And I wondered about it myself. But ultimately, when you take away their brash, confident personas, Aelin has a lot going on. There is nothing behind Bryce's "persona" to me, it's just who she is.

I'm gonna complain about Bryce here.

The easiest way to explain is to ask a question: what does Bryce care about? And honestly, two books and like 1.6k pages in, I have no idea. She has no goals. She has no values, or principles, or things she is striving for. If Danika hadn't died, she would have gone on being a party girl for like 80 more years. They chose their age for the drop based on the fact that aging wouldn't be apparent on them yet. Real noble and deep. We were told that the way that Bryce acts was supposed to be a front, to keep people from looking too deeply. But honestly, what would they see? What strength or goals or objectives was she hiding?

Whereas with Aelin, she was hiding not only her heritage, which Bryce was too, but Aelin was also hiding her love for Terrasen and her family, her hatred of Dorian Sr. and the way that he took over Erilea. Her confidence was earned! Aelin fought to save slaves in TAB despite knowing what it would cost her. She has actual real values and things that she cares about beyond herself. And that comes with flaws, like her difficulty in trusting other people, and she worried if she was good enough to lead and had guilt for things that happened to her as a child.

Bryce just doesn't have anything like that. She is slapped in the face on a daily basis with discrimination, and she would just shrug and move on not giving a shit about any of it, if it weren't for the fact that she is surrounded by who refuse to let it go. Literally the only reason she did things in hosab was because of Danika, again, because she kept finding out Danika's secrets. It wasn't because Bryce had actual shits to give about anything.

I also found Bryce rude for no reason. Aelin always had a reason. And the over-sexualization of Bryce, ugh. That's not on her character, that's on sjm. But it doesn't help.

Avatar

100O% give me a series about Danika instead, except there wouldn’t be any mystery because if bryce died it wouldn’t matter. Whoops. Also anon. There are a few of us who feel this way, guess it just depends what circles you are taking in.

I also feel like people don’t like to shit on a character if they can help it. So you are more likely to see praise for the characters they love and no hate at all, no love at all, just an absence of content.

“If Bryce died it wouldn’t matter” lol I wish the series had been about Danika instead

But yeah I almost didn’t even make that initial post because I don’t typically post about things I dislike but it was more a “hm this is an interesting conundrum” So I agree with Renée that maybe people just avoid the issue entirely and don’t talk about Bryce if they don’t like her!

Hii Leslie, how is your day going?

As I am new to the fandom I wanted to ask if you have seen anyone talking about a livestream where Sarah said that A+E would have a sibling relationship? I saw someone commenting about it but I couldn't find anything about it, I believe that if she said something it must have been a long time ago before or after ACOWAR was released, as I am new here I have no way to know but you already have some time and you know people that have been in this fandom for some time too. <3

Hello! I know that @yazthebookish tagged me in an ask about this and I forgot to respond, sorry!

I don't have the answers for you, unfortunately. I want to say it happened before acowar came out because at the time I didn't even think I needed to keep any evidence that she didn't see them happening. I think that @rayonfrozenwings remembers this having happened too, and we have both been in the fandom since late 2016/early 2017. I think it would have been during a live event (not a live stream) and so the evidence would have just been someone's post about what happened during the event. Pre-COVID, not that many events were recorded. It was pretty much just people going to the events and then making posts about what was said!

Oh and my day is going pretty well! I finished a big project and it’s a great feeling! Thank you for asking 💕

Avatar

I listened to my KoA event the other day (coz yes I’m a geek and recorded it for myself) and the only mention of acotar was something about how the characters would survive the hunger games. And the conclusion was the bat boys would team up. Feyre would join rowan and Aelin, and something about amren setting a trap at the cornucopia and then aedion being the one to run in to get the free stuff. Other than that there was lots of crescent city promo talk.

That was the 2019 KoA tour in NZ.

Um I feel like it might have been during an ACoWAR event. I can look through my notes. Back when fandom just shared what they heard and people didn’t add their own influence too much - but even then it’s usually taking the bloggers word for it. Um but SJM also did a panel at Comic-Con? I want to say or something like that as well. There were lots of events where info could just be shared with those there and not the whole fandom. Back in the day.

On mate bonds: It would be interesting if people only got mate bonds as a reward for something they have done in their lifetimes.

Feyre - dying for others utm

Rhysand - staying UtM for others to be safe in Velaris/his court

Cassian - sacrificing his wings/ upbringing/ protecting fellow illyrians during the war

Nesta - the cauldron, sacrificing herself, trying to save elain, trying to save cassian, trying to save feyre (in acotar when she went searching for her- for people who disagree)

Etc etc

Is it so rare because fae don’t tend to think of anyone but themselves?. The ones we know have mates all made some sort of sacrifice for someone else. 🤔🤔

Avatar

Oh interesting...

Lucien - putting himself on the line to ensure the Spring Court keeps going, being the only one willing to still give a shit about Tamlin

Elain - saving Nesta and Cassian from the King of Hybern, doing the emotional labor for the family as a child

Mor - establishing the library as a safe space for women who were assaulted

Azriel - protecting Rhys and Cassian and saving lots of damsels

Amren - uh...........

Just had a random thought. No evidence mind you because it just came to me and I haven’t looked. But you mentioned how Elain was feeling and I was thinking that she doesn’t claim the kill at all. And sure we haven’t had her pov and don’t know. I get that.

But…

What if truth teller was a conduit for azriel or for a shadow to strike the killing blow, or even a spirit. Since we don’t know what the shadows technically are. Have we considered possession? Elain being possessed by something or someone and killing Hybern. 🤔🤔🤔

Avatar

Hmmm...

I know there is debate about whether or not her stepping out of the shadows had anything to do with Az or not. Since Az doesn't own all shadows and stepping out of the shadows gives a nice ~aesthetic~ to the scene... you can imagine my thoughts 😂

Since Truthteller was a gift from Mor, I wonder if she gave it some extra power. (Sorry to be a skeptical bitch but I also think him saying it was spelled to strike true was also just about making Elain feel less fearful.)

Lol yes I did, I was like - what the fuck is this .😂😂😂😂😂

Which tells anyone how unattached I can be to the things I say. 😂

Elain Market Gardener/Researcher/Explorer Headcanon

Elain can do so much more with her Gardening knowledge. We know that she wanted to visit the continent to see the flowers there, that she can grow almost everything in her garden and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. She can easily learn recipes and people enjoy her food. She is a capable reader and follower of instructions. During her time in the human world she was seen to be intelligent and a worthy match for any lord.

So using these things and inspiration from a picture - I give you Elain the Market Gardener/Researcher/Explorer who is just trying to rebuild the earth one plant at a time.

- After the destruction of the War with Hybern, the lands are still recovering. The people of Prythian are most concerned with food but Elain is slowly finding in her travels that other plants are being destroyed to make crops and feed the people.

- She then Makes it her mission to research and preserve all the plants she can - even the ones people don't love.

- This research and gathering of plants takes her around Prythian, But she quickly learns that she cannot take them all back with her to the Night Court due to climate differences as they don't survive very long there.

- So she she gathers other like minded people and finds ways to set up nurseries and gardens in each Court.

- Her "little research job" quickly expands to managing other people and collaborating with them to learn as much as they can about all the plants - magical or otherwise.

- Lucien introduces her to his friend Nuan, whose knowledge quickly comes in handy.

- Nuan becomes her chief science officer making sure that temperatures are kept even and experimenting with ways to create new climates in other courts allowing cross-breeding between vastly different plants.

- Nuan remains based in Dawn. Close to the Night Court but also surrounded by other like minded tinkering people.

- Nuan and Elain become close friends, working together for the betterment of all of Prythian. They have their own team of people that Source the plants, others that save them, and then ones with knowledge slowly realise that this is a good thing happening.

- It takes time for the sprites and forest dwelling lesser fae to trust the high fae walking through their lands but once they start seeing the high fae saving plants from being destroyed they start to open up and share knowledge.

- Elain still loves to get her fingers dirty, to feel one with the soil, so each garden that she travels to has a small plot of land just for her.

- She plants her favourite varieties in each of these small gardens located around Prythian. She always feels at home in each place as long as she gets to spend time in her garden.

- These small gardens become her home, each a reflection of a different part of herself. She doesn't always invite people to see her gardens and often will have another garden for the public to see.

- The secret gardens allow her to continue her own research without anyone else.

- She has Nuala and Ceridwen often visiting her and while they probably know of the secret gardens they have never asked her about them and Elain likes this about them. They know when she does and doesn't want to talk.

- The Spring Court was the first Court she went to. To help the farmers and the local populace but also to make sure that things grew without growing wild. Spring seemed to grow without any help from her so a taming was needed. A pruning of thorns and roses to let smaller, slower growing plants thrive. She had some of the Inner Circle at her disposal for the exercise and even the Band of Exiles helped her. Vassa's fire powers were helpful in that she could burn invasive plants and the ash could be used to fertilise the fields.

- On her way home she did the royal tour - a slow trip through the safer courts of Summer, Winter, Dawn and Day. They quickly moved through the middle not wanting to stop but Elain made sketches of the vines and night blooming flowers from the carriage.

- In each court she realised how many things she had yet to explore and discover. The beauty that was present in every place and how abundant life was.

- The first thing she realised was that her knowledge was lacking. Each court was a whole new place and experience.

- When she arrived in the Day court instead of heading to the hanging gardens by the river she quickly moved into the library with her sister. Nesta left her alone in the halls filled with botany books and went in search of her own book choices.

- The research was just the start but she was determined to use her new found purpose to help the people of prythian in the way she best knew how.

- Over time this developed into greenhouses - plants for sale and user guides for how to take care of them.

- Elain becomes a household name, knowing how to grow anything and everything and. She receives fan mail - Her fans write to her to ask "how do I stop plant X from dying?", if she doesn't know then her team jumps into action and she learns it.

- They develop quarterly publications that talk about the best plants to grow in the court and season and tips for making more exotic plants grow in new climates. Elain loves collecting flowers for Feyre to paint and placing her art on the cover.

- Helion and Rhysand spent time developing a printing press for mass production, and while it is still a minority of Fae that will read the pamphlet, reading it being brought to the masses through Gardening.

- Her teams under Nuan have found medicinal properties for plants and the Dawn court now grows most of the medicinal plants making them more accessible.

- Elain found a sapling for an Ash tree on an excursion, and while she knows this can easily kill Fae she had to preserve the species. So in the middle there is a secret grove known only to her, where ash trees grow.

She has fans who write her for help ahhhhhhh

- and she would reply with scented stationery and pressed flowers because her fans are precious to her and her fan base is still small. As well as detailed instructions for keeping their plant alive.

very curious anon that loves watching drama from the outside but never gets involved-

so, both elriels and gwynriels are completely certain they're right, and they make so many theories and long posts and all that jazz but... eventually the book will come out and then we'll see who got it right... and i'm just so curious about how the fandom will react!! obviously some will celebrate and post "told ya" and some will go ia for a while or bitch about it, but what about those accs that made in depth analysis? like yours for example, there's not that many accs that do it but some of y'all (on both sides) really seem to know your stuff yk.

and i guess that in my head i can see the stans that make a few comments and for the most part just shit-post get over it easily, but the ones that got really involved, either emotionally or intellectually (that's not the word but you get what i mean) ... looking forward to see how that turns out.

anyway, i just think it's funny that i'm more interested in how the "losing" side will react than the actual result haha.

no but for real i think it's fascinating and someone should make a study on fandom culture and shipwars🤭

I think that people already do study this stuff! (I just did a quick search in my university library website for the word "fandom" and it came up with 27k results.)

I don't think that people understand the lack of my caring about what happens in canon. The thing about this fandom that has been increasingly annoying is the way that everyone is OBSESSED with canon.

And when it comes to shipping, I almost could not care less. Literally nothing will happen in canon that will make me ship e*riel. If it becomes canon and they end up fucking for 800 pages, I will hate every single second of it. Then again, I also hate lysaedion, and it took me forever to get on board with elorcan, I am kinda meh on feysand after acosf. Nessian is pretty good. Rowaelin is OTP. I still finished the books and enjoyed other aspects of them besides the ships I didn't enjoy so much.

The things that I post are analysis of the book content that we know is canon, that we can analyze. I was an English major. I know literary criticism. I put that knowledge to use in fandom. GAH I still need to finish my post about how to do that in fandom. But I can guarantee you that not a single course I took asked me to analyze what would happen next in a series that was not yet complete. Not a single professor asked me to find "foreshadowing" in a book without having read the entire book or series first.

Personally, the fandom has driven me to make statements that I wouldn't have ordinarily. Y'all can ask @aelin-godkiller and @rayonfrozenwings, both who have known me in this fandom since early 2017. I have never liked theories because they are a shot in the dark. But now, everyone is SO OBSESSED with being right that it's driving me crazy. A few months ago someone asked me for proof that elucien would be endgame, and I said no. I'd still say no. I have very strong feelings in one direction, but I also know that sjm is going to do whatever the fuck sjm wants to do and we are just an unpaid part of the Bloomsbury marketing team.

I like meta. I like literary analysis, aka the analysis of the content that we have and that we know is true (in the loosest sense of that word, since we have to account for reader interpretation.)

I can predict what will happen when the next book is announced and/or comes out! There will be people saying "this was OOC!" or "sjm doesn't know her characters!" or "sjm wrote this for fanservice!" It's just a page from the fandom playbook when things don't go people's way.

Avatar

Ok first - wow true we are unpaid marketing and I know this but also, I hate that everytime I talk about this I’m just doing their work for them. The ship wars benifit them - SJM and her books are still on your radar and our lips 6mths later.

And secondly, I totally could have written this anon, I feel it - I kinda also want to get the popcorn. I’ve been here so long now I feel like I have to see things through.

Thirdly - My top post is a theory one from 2017 back when the fandom wasn’t divided in ships and across platforms. Theory. With about 1700notes. That’s huge! Unheard of today. Only art gets notes that high! Or shit posts. We may think fandom is “big” at the moment but it’s kinda just a few vocal people in their small subsets.

But yeah - predicting is hard work. I’ve only ever seen one theory that someone wrote come to fruition almost exactly and that was Maeve being Valg in tower of dawn. Technically me saying worlds were connected has kinda been proven butttt not exactly 100% right so I’m not calling it yet. Hahahaha. But I write theories for fun - I love the endless possibilities that come with writing them. People trying to write fics that follow on from canon are doing the same thing they just are doing the math in their beards instead of sharing it with the class.

I am TIRED Renée, TIRED of the ship war that I just don’t actually fucking care about!!!! Because this is fandom!!!! Where canon goes to die and we dance on its grave!!!!!!

I totally agree with you about the fandom size, though. Maybe it has shifted to other platforms, but tumblr also provides a specific type of fandom experience that just can’t happen elsewhere, so... Every now and then someone will find an old post of mine, like those body swap ones, or random Mor & Cassian brotp headcanons, and it’s amazing how many notes and how much engagement those got. Compared to now, where it’s mostly a few small(er) groups of people who get so triggered by the existence of other shippers that they act like complete imbeciles online. I might be vaguing some people right now, iykyk

I write meta for fun, too. It’s not about being right or guessing canon correctly. Literally the only reason I stick around is because there are huge parts of this fandom that are really fun. Those parts just... happen in private now, in discords free of bullies. And that’s unfortunate for the rest of the fandom, because they are missing out on a lot of discussion that happens behind the scenes, since people don’t feel comfortable saying those things in public.

I hate that I had a typo at the end and you reblogged it and now it is there forever.

It’s a thing now - people do the math in their beards.

lmaooooo I just thought that was a NZ thing

Do you think Sjm putting gwyn in the azriel bonus is only a red herring for e*riel? :(

No, since most of Gwyn’s important moments with Az came outside of his pov. Even if the pov didn’t exist, gwynriel still has him looking at her in admiration, helping her completely the Blood Rite qualifier, and “you’re the ribbon, Az,” and Gwyn challenging Az because she is comfortable around him - a big deal for her character.

Whether the pov is there or not, it doesn’t look good for e*riel. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Avatar

Even if Az ends up with no-one. I'd read about an Az friendship with Gwyn more than I'd read about an Az friendship with Elain.

For real, even if there is nothing romantic in the future (which there is, she’s clearly interested) I love their banter and the way they challenge each other. Gwynriel friends to lovers 2022.

Nothing against Elain, she just has no spark with Az as a friend or otherwise.

Yeah. This. Friends to lovers, I want it so bad. And like where they realise - ah fuck, I like like this person - were just meant to be friends!!!! What do I do!!!!
