But ya know what I think, I think that Elain’s reaction isn’t going to be anger, I think it’s going to be “omfg, I dodged a bullet.”
Cuz can you imagine, if you gave a guy a gift back, and then you see it on another girl that he knows, what the fuck? Not only what the fuck, but that poor woman. She has no idea. But definitely, I’d be thinking “thank frick that I returned it because that is a dick move”.
At least he gave it to Gwyn anonymously so she doesn’t know to be angry and it won’t feel like a crappy move (though we’ll know it is). But it would be.... a moment, when Elain goes up to her and asks where she got it from.
Elain: “That’s a lovely necklace, can I ask where you got it?”
Gwyn: “Oh, it was a gift.”
Elain: “Really? From whom?”
Gwyn: “I’m not sure! It’s lovely though, isn’t it?”
Elain: “It is beautiful. And it suits you!”
Then Elain goes to Az and just *subtly* prods him about the necklace, maybe something about how lovely Gwyn looks for nessian’s mating ceremony. And he knows what she’s saying, she doesn’t have to accuse him outright, but he knows that Elain knows, and he knows that she’ll tell Gwyn if he doesn’t, and that he really needs to be more thoughtful in his gift-giving in the future. And that he is never going to live this down with Elain.
You know what’s weird - Azriel is thoughtful about his gifts.

The regifting is such an ooc move. Imo.
And I know we don’t really know much but he could have just thrown the gift in the river.... so why didn’t he?
Is there some importance to the gift we don’t know? Is it related to rose hall and who fandom assume resides there (his mum) or something else? Idk. Just a random thought about how that ooc move is weird unless there is something more going on, or the necklace is significant in some sense.
Az also has a temper so if the necklace was specifically for Elain then he totally would have just gotten rid of it or put in on a shelf next to his migraine medicine to just brood.
The fact he took it to Clotho also means it wasn’t something he rashly gave away, he thought about it and considered the outcome.

That is a take I didn’t think of.
I guess it’s possible it’s not a part of his character I’ve seen before. Maybe that’s the real reason he gave Elain his knife, just reusing what they had nearby vs finding her a new one.
