We must be due a cover reveal for house of sky and breath soon? Right?

Cc: hoeab cover reveal was 6mths ish before.

I’d really love to see the art, house of earth and blood was a beautiful cover I really want to see what comes next.

Do you think there will be different covers like the first book? I still haven’t decided which version I like best!

@flowerchild-elaine Not sure, I remember there being uk and usa versions for most of the SJM books and then when they are translated into different languages they also have different covers. The Italian silver flames cover for example was really cool.

Also after a year they had different covers because they were paperback versions with all white and then red on them.

And the USA and uk versions often get special editions if you buy from certain stores - and they do theirs in hardback with covers and so the underneath hard cover was different if I remember right. Like I want to say some were red and others black? But I’m not 100% sure.

Sadly I’m NZ the only book I could get on release day was the uk/anz one so that’s what I got. 😂. It’s paperback with the amazing art on the cover.

And now In store there are these two, depending on where you go in nz.

So mine was the right one. Or a version of that. The other one came out later here.

I would just love some art to match the right image and Aparently they are getting the same awesome artist to do it. I’m not sure if that’s wishful thinking or hearsay or true 100% tho because I can’t remember where I heard it.

Also @worldofsarahjmaas if you wanted to do a similar preorder incentive with a print of the cover art for house of sky and breath and the same artist that would be amazing because - it’s hot. And I love it. And I think it’s one of the better preorder incentives over the years. Hahahaha.

Did anyone else get Deanna vibes from Nesta’s silver flames? Reminds me of when Deanna takes over Aelin in Empire of Storms in Skulls Bay.

I didn't make this connection myself but it's been a long time since I read EOS so I went back and read the Deanna scene and there are some similar vibes in the mentions of them having silver eyes/cold silver fire. Plus the fact that Deanna is a goddess and Nesta's powers are?? (mistaken for?) a death gods. Whether that was something delibrately done to indicate that Nesta's powers are those of a gods?? Or a connection between worlds? Idk? Sarah also just uses a lot of similar phrases so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But the line "the cold of stolen light" in the Deanna scene is interesting as Nesta stole her powers from the cauldron

Deanna in Eos:

"Her face turned expressionless. Cold as the gaps between the stars. And her eyes… Turquoise burned bright … around a core of silver. No hint of gold to be found."

"Aelin’s eyes furled her fingers into a fist. Light leaked through her clenched fingers. Cold white light. Tendrils flickered—silver flame."

"And Rowan realized what the power in her hand was. Realized that the flame she would unleash would be so cold it burned, realized it was the cold of the stars, the cold of stolen light. Not wildfire—but moonfire."

Nesta in Acosf:

"Nesta knew her own power could shine like that, too— but while Amren’s had revealed itself to be light and heat, Nesta knew that her silver flame came from a colder, darker place. A place that was old— and yet wholly new."

“Do you know how your eyes glow when your power rises to the surface? Like molten steel. Like silver fire.”

"Her door was open, and light blazed from within. Silvery, cold light..... The fire radiated cold. Cassian had never heard of such a power amongst the High Fae. Fire, yes—but fire with warmth. Not this icy, terrible twin."

I think this is a really interesting theory, and like it would be so SJM to make that link between the worlds. However, if it was really was Aelin that fell through the sky when Rhys saw that red star (or whatever it was) during ACOSF, then it would make it pretty impossible for Nesta to also be Deanna as the timelines would not match up- because the war in Erilea would be happening at the same time as the war in Prythian and Nesta didn’t know about her powers (or rather the extent of her powers) until much later!

So it’s definitely Aelin falling through the sky that Rhys sees, but I think the Wyrd gates would also allow Aelin to fall through time? So if acotar universe is older and Nesta was somehow Deanna in the past...I think it could still be that Aelin falls through that time and place.

Yeah, so.... its complicated to explain. I feel like I need a white board.  and images and connecting things.

Yes - if parallel universes in space then also parallel in time. Totally possible. I’m going to reference the show sliders because they thought they were originally going to different planets then learned that actually they were travveling through time and alternate realities - so one action changed the outcome of the world they entered into. Some had dinosaurs etc some were almost identical to what they had.

Part of me thinks sjm was so in love with the tog world and then she was like - well. where else have the valg been? what other options are out there?

In Tower of Dawn we encountered the stygian spiders that told us that maeve had come through the wyrd gate and that the fae of the southern continent had followed her to keep her contained/fight the valg (if i paraphrased that wrong apologies I haven't read TOd in a few years) but the culture was reminding me of the ancient egyptians - tombs, sarcophagus, pyramid shapes etc - but they brought that from somewhere else. The Khaganate talks about how they adopted different pantheons - so perhaps the world walkers brought their own gods with them and added to the original worlds.

Deanna talks about how she is linked to the world though. She doesn't mention other worlds which makes me think gods might be linked to the world they first gain power - but they are able to leave the worlds and go to other worlds.

So Deanna could totally be Nesta or vice versa or they could have the essence of the same god place into them in multiple dimensions.

I think there has to be an idea of multiple planes of existence and gods - but that doesn't exclude parallels occurring between dimensions - there could be multiple of the same OR there could be one god just walking through realms - aka the 12 that were trapped in TOG. Or maybe there are 36 like the Khaganate have and so we have 24 still out there chilling?

Honestly - it’s a web. I'm sorry if you are still with me - if you aren’t its ok, i'm getting lost in my own explanation.

My thoughts currently are that all the worlds are connected - some are more directly connected than others and then there are also parallel universes. CC opened this up with its Gates and the congregation of different beings from different places all hanging out in Lunathon. We have only encountered some of the home worlds (of the beings that live there) shall we say. And in Tog we know the valg have also moved through worlds conquering them. It's not something completely out of left field anymore. We know multiple worlds exist.

In CC:Hoeab the Autumn King has a model of the solar system and Rhys appears to have a similar model/map in his library that Cassian observes in ACOSF. Once upon a time I used to think that perhaps these worlds were flat and stacked on top of eachother like how the ancient greek myths had hades just sitting below the earth, and if you wandered into a cave then perhaps you would enter the underworld. And that was connected to the theory that people could come to prythian through tunnels - Alis mentions it and I think Rhys does too. I am not convinced of Flat worlds with solar system models in existence. Which kind of means we need to imagine a solar system and then all the connecting solar systems across the veil of existence all stacking on top of eachother - but again, time only matters at a point of connection.

All time can be happening at the same time as all time on the other plane (tog/acotar/cc) all are concurrently occurring until they are observed by us - or until they connect with another world that is being observed by us. Honestly - it messes with my brain a little.

But then we also have world walkers - these people who went through Wyrd gates to parallel universes - the bone carver alludes that he and his siblings came through from another place - but he doesn't explain how exactly. We have an ancient shrine in TOG that could be dedicated to the bone carver, a hidden got called the sin eater who people gave offerings to - Gavin being one of the first. Was Gavin given Damaris (an ancient blade) from this sin eater god he worshipped? Did this sin eater god act as a parallel god OR is it actually the bone carver before he skipped town and went into another world (acotar?) but he has been trapped in the prison for longer than I would imagine thing time has passed in tog since the time of Gavin.

And this my friends......

Is Why I want the World of Throne of Glass.

And this is why I try to not write theory at the moment because can you imagine! Finding all the quotes and all the evidence and justifying with an argument and parallels and the crying i would go through when something doesn't quite match up.

I didn't even mention the Cauldron/wyrdgate/ 3 parts / empty void same but different stuff here.

So - Same powers in multiple worlds - Possible. Same person/entity/deanna in multiple worlds - also possible.

Time is a construct.

sorry @aelin-godkiller I got carried away.

any theories on earth the forth trove object could be - I think it was bones ?

Hmmmm interesting question! I pulled out some relevant quotes:

At the time, some claimed there were four, or that the fourth had been Unmade, but today’s legends only tell of three (225)
A fourth object lay on the altar, veiled in shadow. But she couldn’t make out more than a gleam of age-worn bone- (548)

And the final one:

Nesta’s stomach churned, but she refrained from mentioning how graphic that vision had been. “There was a fourth object in the vision, but it was in shadow - was there ever a fourth part of that Trove? All I could make out was a bit of ancient bone.”
Rhys ran a hand through his dark hair. “As far as history has confirmed, there are only three objects in the Trove.”
Feyre asked, “What if it’s protected by a spell, like the one to shield all the Trove, to keep people from ever knowing about the fourth object?”
Rhys’s eye shadowed. “Then the Mother spare us, because even Amren only vaguely remembers a rumor of it.” (556)

Because it’s bone the first thing I thought of was a relic, like from a saint. However, I have no idea if that is even a thing in that world. Except... if Amren knew about it, considering what she used to be.... that could be a possibility? But relics don’t do much on their own except act as objects of worship. Maybe it being in Prythian would mean something different?

Or it could be something that was used to keep someone alive à la Jurian? We already have Koschei as a villain but perhaps... he’s an old god, right? Maybe there is someone from his past and he was using Briallyn to help him retrieve that person. The mortal queens strike me as power hungry and not really thinking about the big picture, beyond what they can gain now (or at least, the ones who are still living are like that), so they would be easily manipulated into going for the Trove if they were promised power, unknowingly leading Koschei to something he wants even more.

But then again, being made of bone doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s still in some skeletal structure - it could be an object made of bone that serves an entirely different purpose. I just can’t help thinking that the material itself is important - not gold, not steel, not rock, etc.

And if it’s that old, perhaps it’s linked to the story sjm said would take place far in the past? Or perhaps she decided to take that story and make it relevant to the current timeline with Nesta & Co., and so it would be a blend of the two. An event in the past that has serious implications for Prythian now.

@rayonfrozenwings throw in your 2 cents cuz I know you have thoughts

I love you for this @bookofmirth. I was looking into this myself but on a larger level and not looking closer.

I agree that it can be like a relic or something from a saint in the past. The reason I agree is because I believe that the fourth trove item is in fact the Ivory Horn (Luna’s Horn) from Crescent City: HOEAB.

So in CC we have mention of the Autumn King. One Fae King.

I don’t know whether CC is before/ after/ same time or parallel universe or what it is. I don’t have the information to make that connection as cleanly as I would like just yet and I’ve been looking at these theories since Empire of Storms.

The Autumn King in CC is in possession of a golden crown and he has been looking for the Horn because it is of importance. The horn is made of:

“cracked ivory” (CC)

and is described as being one of three artifacts of Luna. Once it belonged to the first starborn prince Pelias.

“Luna’s Horn was a weapon wielded by Pelias, the first Starborn Prince, during the First Wars. The Fae forged it in their homeworld, named it for the goddess in their new one, and used it to battle the demon hordes once they made the crossing. Pelias wielded the Horn until he died.” (cc:hoeab)

I am not going to write a full theory but rather just answer the question above. I think the Horn is the Fourth Artifact in the Death Trove. It's made of Ivory and that's synonymous for bone - it had enough power to fight demon hordes before it was damaged.

It came from another world, the Harp is an artifact that allows a crossing between worlds as mentioned in ACOSF so it doesn't seem unreasonable that either in the past or the future the Horn would be lost across dimensions/worlds. there is also another quote in CC that describes this crossing.

“This is just a three-page account of Prince Pelias and his bride, Lady Helena. But I didn’t realize that Pelias was actually the high general for a Fae Queen named Theia when they entered this world during the Crossing—and Helena was her daughter. From what it sounds like, Queen Theia was also Starborn, and her daughter possessed the same power. Theia had a younger daughter with the same gift, but only Lady Helena gets mentioned.” Ruhn cleared his throat and read, “Night-haired Helena, from whose golden skin poured starlight and shadows. It seems like Pelias was one of several Fae back then with the Starborn power.” (CC)

I am going to leave this here for now.... because I need to research more. But i’m happy that the Horn is the 4th object hidden in shadow in ACOSF - whether it is shadowed in ACOSF because it is in the ACOTAR world or gone due to destruction (the history we are given of the horn in cc) or moving across worlds is yet to be seen.

**Contains Crescent City Spoilers**

A post about Skin colour/tone in Crescent City: HOEAB

because I got Salty that people don’t read critically or pay attention (basically some people fall back on their default settings)… and I decided to find facts with the hope that people will accurately represent them in writing and art or try to at least not make the characters who aren't white - white.

People Described as “Pale” in relation to skin tone in Crescent City

- Danika ch5 “even her pale skin usually flushed with colour and health, seemed ashen”

- Maximus ( A Vampire) ch8

- A satyr they come across - (Pale skinned ch18)

- The demon, Kristallos (ch21)

- Briggs (ch35)

- Sabine (ch37, ch 43, 49)

- Viktoria (40)

- Aidas - “Pale skinned pretty boy” ch51

- The Harpy (ch73)

9 people. 9 white people. 9 people clearly stated. Sure some characters are not stated as being white or any other skin colour and they could totally be white - but is that just your default setting talking? I can’t remember or source what Micah looks like other than having white wings for instance - Maybe on a second read I will find that out.

Some other references to the word “pale” are: they turned pale, they paled, impaled, the pale pink lace, pale green eyes etc.

Both Dark Skinned characters and light skinned characters turn pale. Here are some examples below.

- Tharion - “Tharion said nothing, his tan face going pale.” (TAN but still turning pale). (ch42) - Hunt - “Hunts face was pale” - Bryce - ch6 - “turns sickly pale” ch12 - Michah stares at Bryce and she turns pale that her freckles look like blood across her nose. ch26 - when she realises she is covered in blood - her face paled  ch61- “her face slightly pale”  ch50 - Ruhn paled

The ways sjm does describe skin in this book (all tones).

  • Golden skin (Bryce) ,
  • Golden skin (Connor),
  • Tan skin (gorgeous daemonaki from crescent city: clothing optional edition),
  • pale skin (Danika),
  • golden skin (Reid - that human BF at the start),
  • tanned skin (human at restaurant),
  • dark brown skin (Juniper),
  • near-translucent grey skin (demon - Kristallos),
  • gold-dusted skin (Bryce ch6),
  • golden skinned(Ruhn ch8),
  • light brown skin (Hunt),
  • pale skinned (Satyr),
  • moon-skinned (Viper Queen),
  • dark-skinned (Temple acolyte),
  • brown skin (Juniper),
  • tan skin (Bryce ch26),
  • silky skin - soft skin and bare skin also bryce in ch 26,
  • freckled skin (Ember),
  • brown skinned (Randall),
  • Golden Skin (Bryce),
  • tan skin (Bryce),
  • Golden skin (Helena -starborn),
  • pale-skinned (Briggs),
  • deep gold of his skin (Hunt),
  • golden brown skin (Hunt),
  • golden skin (Bryce),
  • glowing brown skin (medwitch aka Hypaxia),
  • pale skin (Viktoria),
  • pale-skinned (Aidas),
  • gold dusted brown skin (Hunt),
  • tan skin (Hunt),
  • Golden-brown skin (Hunt),
  • brown skin (Randall),
  • pale-skinned (Harpy),
  • brown-skinned (Queen Hypaxia),
  • Dark skinned (Female mer leader not the River Queen but could be a relation),
  • mottled grey skin (Demon),
  • and yes there are other descriptions, like smooth skin and flushed skin but I mostly left those out.

Other Body Part Descriptions to help describe Skin Colour

“Gold dusted Legs” - Bryce

“Stripped legs” - Juniper (remember she’s a fawn and has fuzzy fawn legs)

“the females tan face” - Fae woman at dinner

“light brown face” - Fury Axtar

“Golden brown face” - Hunt

“pale face twisted in a snarl” - Sabine

“Tharion said nothing, his tan face going pale” - Tharion

“Ithan’s tan face” - Ithan

“elegant brown face” - Hypaxia

I can go and look at other ways to describe white but I think that’s a good assessment to start. I’m sure there is more.

I personally see Bryce as plus size too, but honestly I can't even be mad at people for picturing her thin with big boobs because that's how Maas described her. She talks about how she's "full-figured" and with "too much curves to be a dancer" but nothing clearer, so I get why people wouldn't be sure. Lehebah's description was much clearer, so Maas can describe plus size characters when she wants to, she just chose to be vague with Bryce. Sorry, as a plus size I'm tired of fake representation.

I understand all of this! It would be nice to get a clearer visual. And I do not think that Bryce counts as plus sized rep given that she is not described as plus sized.

Except…I can be angry at people picturing and drawing her thin….or at least annoyed, because Bryce is not described as thin, she’s described as being curvy and…well, only Kardashians have bodies where they are JUST curvy in the boobs and ass and no fat anywhere else, and this is what I’ve seen in basically every Bryce art.

It’s not JUST that Maas isn’t describing Bryce as clearly as she could, it’s that people read “curvy” and “generous figure” and draw her as a stick figures with boobs. That’s…not Maas’s fault, and this honestly reminds me of how people continuously read “golden brown” and “bronze skin” and then draw Fenrys as pale white (obviously white washing is a separate, very important issue, and not the same as what is going on here, but it’s similar in that the text can say one thing and people can…ignore that for their own preferred version). YES Maas could be better at describing basically everyone—it isn’t her strong suit in writing. BUT, artists could also TRY to draw outside of what they consider to be conventionally attractive, euro-centric features.

At the very least, I’d want to see artists depicting Bryce as having a body similar to Serena Williams, who is muscular and curvy, but clearly not just a stick figure with an ass.

I had @rayonfrozenwings do a search in her ebook earlier for me, and I think that while Maas isn’t as clear as she could be, it’s…pretty obvious that Bryce feels othered for her body and like she isn’t as pretty as the very thin and delicate fae. This alone signals that her body type diverges from what is the general standard of beauty—so it’s weird to me that we keep getting art where she is very thin, when the book is fairly clear on thin and small equaling fae and curvy and larger equaling human, and not as attractive.

Here’s some examples:

“Your cousin said you used to dance. That you stopped after Danika died. You never wanted to follow that road?” She pointed to the sweep of her hips. “I was told my half-human body was too clunky. I was also told that my boobs were too big, and my ass could be used as an aerialport landing pad.”

Her body is clunky, her ass is huge, she isn’t ballerina thin.

She’s described elsewhere as “warm and soft,” as being “the wrong type” for dancing, and as having a “generously curved figure” (more than once). She is also muscled from dancing and exercise, based on a few other descriptions.

When Maas’s heroines are super thin, we are told that, as with Feyre and Nesta. When their thinness is meant to be sexy, she tells us that as well, especially with Nesta. Bryce is sexy and beautiful because of her curves, and we see this often in Hunt’s perspective. Her stomach is never mentioned as being flat or taut or anything.

I’m not saying Bryce is amazing or well done plus sized rep. We are not told she is plus sized.

But we ARE told that she is larger than the fae, that she is curvy, that her body is soft, that she has muscled thighs, that she has a large ass, and that she has the wrong type of body for dancing and that her body is not viewed as conventionally beautiful. To me, this does NOT translate into a Kardashian body, which is the art I’ve predominantly seen. It translates into someone who is more realistic looking, who has fat in places, who is large, who is maybe larger on the bottom than on top, who isn’t a perfect hourglass figure, who looks less than model perfect.

Maas hasn’t been as clear as she could be, yes, but artists have chosen to ignore the textual representation of Bryce as a curvy woman, and instead a lot of them have painted her as having curves that are only attainable for a few people and those who can afford plastic surgery. I know people read and interpret as they wish but it is sad when we get a curvy heroine and basically NO artist depicts her as plus sized.

Avatar

I identify with Bryce.

The fan art is beautiful but I wouldn’t say it’s accurate to my interpretation🤷‍♀️.

If I was more body confident I’d post a picture of myself. Instead I’ll share using words.

I’m Size 12-14nz I’m tallish at 5”9 and usually weigh 80-85kgs. I’m not plus-size but not small. I’m the average size for a kiwi woman (which is usually a size14 unless it’s changed recently). I do have a small waist in proportion to the rest of me. I have no ass tho - instead all my fat is blubby on the front and on my tummy. I am soft. Aparently softness is nice to hug tho - when I was skinnier Aparently my bony hips dug in when I sat next to hubby on the couch. My hips are wide - multiple people have actually said over the course of my life that I have “child bearing hips”. They don’t realise I don’t find it complementary. I have big boobs. Especially in relation to my small waist. My usual bra size is a 12g. They are a bitch to buy - just saying. I am semi-fit. I have thighs (even if I have no ass). I don’t like to run tho. But I can lift children to bed without puffing. I can walk long distances. I try not to exert myself. Bryce does run and does push herself so I imagine she is more muscled than myself. She won’t have chicken wing arms like me.

Of course this is my interpretation based on the text and also on how much I relate to Bryce. But I see her as someone like me but fitter. Weirdly enough - you can be of average build or plus size and still be fit as hell 😱. I know because I have never been “fit” and everyone else around me is still running and I’m dying on the side or the road during “cross country” back when I was a skinny teen. Just coz your skinny doesn’t mean you are fit.

And I went off on a tangent. But that’s because I feel like Lucia summed it up pretty well above.

All of this Renee!!!

I think that yeah I would love to just see Bryce depicted as a woman who has fat somewhere other than the acceptable places of her ass and boobs. Because that’s not how the human body works!

And YES you can be plus sized and fat and plump and curvy and also be very fit. Skinny does not equal healthy and skinny doesn’t equal fit.
