Yeah, there’s a lot that must have happened between acowar and acofas, not just for them but also nessian. Think about where they all were at the end of acowar, and now… idk! Lucien doesn’t really feel comfortable in Velaris I think, what with basically having to live on someone else’s charity, which he is pretty much done with after Tamlin. And with Elain being all comfy living with Feyre, that makes it difficult for them to talk. Elain needs to find her independence…
All four of them just have a lot of personal stuff they are dealing with, and it will make waiting for them to come together that much more satisfying! Right now Nesta and Cassian are being thrown together so they’ll have to work it out. Then we just gotta see how that will happen with Elain and Lucien. (And even if you don’t ship it, yes, they have to be thrown together at some point to work it out. They can’t just exist without ever settling the mate question.)
Ways we can throw them together… 🤔
- Elain wants to see the tulips, Lucien escorts her while taking Vassa back to the continent.
- Elain kidnapped by Koschei… needs a saviour? I guess? She becomes the swan maybe from swan lake since there’s that twisted fairytale vibe sjm has for acowar.
- Elain becomes a creature of habit and visits the flower market once a week and Lucien is always “bumping into her” to help carry her wares home.
So that’s all my brain can think of right now… lol

@theyretheirthere and I came up with an elaborate plot where Az is Koschei, Elain is Marya Morevna, and Lucien is Ivan. It was an amazing Deathless AU.
I love how your first and last examples are Lucien not being subtle at all. She probably would need some sort of savior at some point though so maybe while he’s taking her to see the tulips she accidentally gets married to Koschei and has to get rescued.
I completely forgot that we came up with that! Yes, Lucien has many strengths but subtlety is not one of them. See: announcing Elain was his mate in the middle of a crisis and starting his own island of misfit toys.

omg this is such a good question! I’ve been thinking about it!
So we’re told that mates are chosen maybe because they are “equals” or “matched” or they will “make good babies”, but overall it’s kinda… not well defined. I think Sarah was going to make Lucien mates with Nesta at first, but realized that they would be horrible together. If she was trying to play on the whole “not all mates are meant to be” thing, she would have just left that as is and gone that route to show them crashing and burning. But think about this -
- Lucien has this eye that can spells and glamours. Elain has the power to see beyond the present moment and where she’s at.
- Lucien can be a snarky bitch. Elain definitely whips out the sass.
- Lucien admitted that he had not been a good friend to Feyre. Elain did the same (but as a sister).
- Lucien is the son of the Day Court. Elain and her flowers need sunshine.
- They both try to do the right thing, even if they don’t really know what that is right away.
- They’ve both loved and lost.
- Elain being very domestic, while Lucien has been searching for a home.
- If I think of more I’ll add on.

And then you have to reread it so you read through the space between your fingers because you’re afraid it’s a horror show and you’ve got your hands up in front of your face just in case
Then you take notes after reading and can see three ways it’s meant to go, and have no idea which way was the plan so you just kinda wing it and hope it works out.

I don’t know what this is in relation to? Is it shock or query? Or are there meant to be exclamation marks? Did I say something? So now you get some thoughts.
But lysandra is described as having “uptilted eyes” In queen of Shadows when she’s looking at Rowan for the first time. And it is mentioned again in the book - so it’s not a one off line. Another character described with those eyes is Nesryn.
Lysandra has mentioned in the past that she chose the features she thought were most desirable, aka big boobs. Whether or not she chooses her eye shape is unlclear. She does always have green eyes no matter her form though. I cannot remember if it’s mentioned that she chose those. And therefore I do not know if she chose her eye shape and therefore is a not a poc. That could be problematic if it’s the case but that’s a different thing to look into and I won’t do that here.
I have no idea which ethnicity “uptilted eyes” would refer to, I picture her as Iranian, or Turkish or middle eastern if I had to place a real world place on a fictional book. But that could be my own bias for finding those eyes beautiful and tilting up kinda at the sides (seriously I don’t know what “uptilted means”)- But I honestly have no idea (also sorry if my description sucks, I’m not good at describing this stuff).
I don’t find the writing states it clearly enough for me to say definitely. I could infer that as the description is also used for Nesryn that there is a southern continent link and we know the people from there are POC and that Nesryn is POC that therefore Lysandra is POC. Or she has ancestry that would make her have some of that in her genealogy. If one parent is POC and one isn’t does it make the offspring not POC? If you are pale skinned does that erase your identity? I don’t think so - Just my thoughts.
Lysandra’s cultural identity is minimal though because she grew up in a brothel and away from her cultural heritage. We don’t know if her mother made food from the southern continent. We do know they lived in the poorer part of Rifthold - but nothing about her mother really (I would need to go re-read the interchange when she was thrown out on the streets and all I can remember is that lysandra shifted in front of her).
Her uncle Falkan is described as a white guy. But that doesn’t mean anything. Eg. My dad is pakeha, his neices are Fijian Chinese/pakeha and mayalsian/pakeha (different mums). His ethnicity doesn’t mean they aren’t poc. So I didn’t really want to add this part, but it might be needed for a whole look into lysandra and her background.
I also suck at picking ethnicity/race stuff in books. Whether from authors not stating or using weird descriptions. I get so mad at authors correcting mistakes/absences in storytelling by stating it seperate from the text - but that’s my pet peeve - Just going to put that out there. I’m also only a reader, so this is from what I have read / payed attention to. I know lysandra isn’t really seen as poc in fandom art etc, so maybe I have it wrong. Maybe it’s not an identifying feature. It just stood out to me.
For the record I’m a pakeha (white nzer) from nz. And so I don’t know if I’m the right person to comment. So I’m not trying offend anyone, it’s just my take on it - I haven’t been around the world, I suck at figuring out where people are from. So yea, did I answer the ask? I dunno.
