they match each other’s freak to a degree that is dangerous to the public
Astarion and the dark urge bonding quickly simply because they’re always up at night together while everyone else is sleeping. Both due to they’re naturally nocturnal sleep cycles but also due to them both suffering from nightmares. There’s also Astarion being the only elf at camp for a while and the dark urge being too afraid to sleep most nights.
Sometimes they simply quietly enjoy each others company
Sometimes they stay up all night with a bottle of wine and whisper gossip
Sometimes Durge accompanies Astarion on his nightly hunt
Sometimes Astarion will feel extra friendly and let Durge rest they’re head on his lap as he reads to them.
Eventually as they grow closer and the lack of rest becomes too much; this turns into regular nightly cuddles as they both find they rest easier snuggled up together. They don’t always start out cuddling but one way or the other they always wake up in the same bedroll. Either they awaken from nightmares needing the others comfort or they just can’t settle for the evening crawling into the other arms in defeat.
I love the dynamic of Durge x Astarion I will never shut up about it

It’s two rescued cats meeting in a shelter that despite their aggressive and apprehensive attitudes formed an inseparable bond and now can only be adopted together.
A dark urge who’s brain is basically goo at this point with no inhibitions or hesitation to be completely honest about what they think or feel. Making them seem stupidly naive and easy to manipulate and honestly they probably are. Of course Astarion eats this up until they’re cuddled up next to him staring at him with too much affection and adoration as they tell him “I love you” with no hesitation or hint of falsehood.
Ok so I’ve been seeing people playing with the idea of Astarion falling victim to the dominant person spell and trying to kill Tav
And I raise you, Dark Urge falling victim to the dominant person spell and almost killing Astarion especially after act 2 or even better post game when they’ve been freed of Bhaal.
Imagine their confusion and panic, not able to distinguish between the Urge and a spell. Especially if they had been cured of the Urge. The terror they’d feel as a power commands their body to hurt the one they love. As far as they can tell the urge is back, Bhaal has claimed them once more.
Everyone had nightmares

Love getting the dark urge ‘kill your lover’ scene before Astarion’s confession.
Imagine you’re Astarion:
The person you fell in love with while trying to seduce and manipulate into protecting you, who you cuddle with often enough you assume that must be why they woke you up: “hey wake up, I’m going to kill you because I love you”
And the man still confesses a few days later.
I like to imagine it’s his big wake up call that he’s fucked up and fallen in love with them.
His, “I’m more worried about you, you give me something to care about and that’s worth the peril”
