Karri's Top Ten On-Screen Reasons Destiel Is Happening

I’m a believer. I believe that Destiel is happening. Not in some far-off shipper dreamland future - I believe it’s already begun.

Taken as a whole, there is a distinct shift in tone midway through season eight regarding Dean and Cas’ relationship – and more specifically, regarding the observations other people make about their relationship. There are oodles of gorgeous, emotional scenes between the pair of them in the first half of season eight, through Purgatory and beyond, but all of them can be explained away as deep friendship and left at that (there are two notable exceptions – more on those later). I love “Where’s the angel?” and Dean’s determination not to leave Cas behind as much as the next shipper, but Dean would never in a million years leave any friend behind if he could help it, whether or not they’re platonic. He certainly wouldn’t leave one behind in order to save his own hide, which is what Cas was asking him to do. I love the hug, I love the peach-fuzz, I love the way Cas says Dean’s name by the river. I love Dean’s grief and relief and guilt and outbursts and everything he feels at Cas’ return. And then there’s “Talk to me.” All beautiful, beautiful things for this relationship. (Please take a moment with me for the feels. Good? Okay.)

BUT none of these are explicitly romantic. Yes, they can be taken that way, but they don’t have to be, they can simply be marks of a fabulous, meaningful friendship that’s getting better all the time.

All of this changes in the second half of season eight.

This super self-indulgent meta is going to examine ten moments, largely from the latter half: ten pieces of hard evidence, ten concrete examples that are really hard to explain away, ten reasons I believe Destiel is happening. It’s all in the questions asked and the answers unspoken – what is purposefully drawn to our attention, and the attention of the characters around them. It’s what makes the leap from friendship to something more.

Honestly we need to dust off all our old S8 meta about what the show was building towards, why it was important that Sam was involved. Dabb era validates Carver era frustrations and analysis in every way. Had S8 ended then and there I think the show would have followed through as best as they could into text. We weren’t wrong about this story then. We’re not wrong now. The S8 ghost narrative deserves its true ending.

i love this destiel news i have zero investment in supernatural but you dont have big fandoms like this anymore. literally everyone on social media knows what youre talking about when you talk about it. this is the first time in so long ive seen the entire internet collectively lose its gourd over something that wasnt horrific tragedy and existentially horrific news. feels really good.

I can understand spreading misinformation due to a mistake, or not checking your sources, but doing so deliberately? Yeah sure, go ahead if you want to alienate and anger every russian that is still on this site. We do not have the privilege to laugh at “haha putin is resigning because of destiel” jokes because we ARE LIVING THROUGH IT. And trust me, if you think Trump is bad, try living your entire life in an authoritarian dystopia with a quality of life times worse that the states you berate so much. And also, with little chance of change.

If after this day I hear one more complaint about “election interference”, I will straight up link this idiotic post. Your lack of self-awareness as a nation is already baffling to the rest of the world (blah blah they affected the election with media and propaganda - hello? You’ve been doing that for literal decades, on many countries, including russia, welcome to the reality), but this? This is something else entirely.
