zootopia is a very bad racial allegory. the whole thing frames people of color as an inherent danger to white people. don't go blaming autism for your own racism

Obviously it is not perfect, and like you said, there are definitely some problematic tropes and elements in it (like there is with much other fiction).

Also, I’m sure it was not meant as a perfect parallel to the real world. Not only is lots of the prejudice in the movie comparable to racism, but also to sexism, ableism, and lgbtq+phobia as well.

(I have considered making a more detailed analysis of it, but have never gotten around to do it)

here’s a pinned post

Name is Beam (pronounced like Liam, not cream)

I was born in 2000 (as I write this I am 20)

Nonbinary and bisexual and biromantic, they/them pronouns

Born and raised and living in Denmark

Very white, slowly turning even whiter (I have vitiligo)

Height is 1,68/5,6, weight is about 57 kg (idk how many pounds that is, definitely over 100 but otherwise no idea)

Let’s talk about disabilities! Idk if vitiligo counts, but being deaf in my left ear definitely does. I also have autism, depression, and type 1 diabetes. And glasses, idk if that counts (it should). Yay!

Right now my hyperfixation is Sanders Sides (Well Thomas Sanders in general). My favorite character is Virgil, but I like all the sides. I also like all ships (except romantic r3mr0m), but my current favorites are Moceit and Prinxiety. I have a sims game with the sides, and I regularly provide you with screenshots from it.

I also like Harry Potter, but JKR is an idiot. I am a Ravenclaw, and I love Luna (who, btw, is autistic, trans, and queer, because I say so). Not fond of Draco.

Hogwarts Mystery is a great game, I play it every day!

And I love Disney, and Dreamworks.

Brooklyn 99 is also a great show.

Here’s a list of people I don’t want to follow me:

  • porn bots
  • sugar daddies who want me to be their sugar baby
  • anti-sjw’s
  • terf’s
  • transmeds
  • ace/aro-exclusionists
  • people who think that being pan/poly/etc. makes you biphobic
  • people who mock people who are deeply into fandoms
  • anti-vegans (no that’s not the same as not being vegan, you obviously don’t have to be vegan to follow me, just don’t be anti-vegan please)
  • trump supporters
  • any sort of genocide denier
  • my mom

That’s about it for now, I guess.

edit: I obviously don’t want racists, misogynists, etc. to follow me either but few people on this site will admit that that’s what they are. Most of them fall into the categories of “anti-sjw” “trump supporter” or something else on this list so they should be ruled out anyway :)

it always amaze me how shockingly rightwing the arguments against veganism are. "you're forcing your views on people" "it always been this way" "we're superior" "they're gonna overpopulate" "stop humanizing them" "it's biology" "they too dumb to understand" all arguments I've heard the shittiest of the shittiest people say against lgbt+, poc and disabled people but leftist people use these against animals while claiming to love them

It's so incredibly ironic in the worst possible way....

Like I kid you not, I've even heard non-vegans who are big in social justice circles talk about the dangers of invisible belief systems in terms of human oppression and issues about how we view others, but they will then link to the most absurd anti-vegan articles and talk about how they love animals while being massively anti-animal rights...I cant even...

Okay, but what if none of the Sides exist except Roman? What if Thomas isn’t even real? What if they’re all just figments of the prince’s imagination, created as a desperate attempt to save himself from whatever hurt has been clawing its way inside of him? The boy is just trying to preserve his sanity. He wants to escape. What if he’s actual royalty in some other world- some place where people like him have the power to turn blank space into life?

What if, during the Christmas video, when Roman said he had a lot going on, it wasn’t in relation to his job as Thomas’ creativity. What if that was him projecting his frustrations onto the fake friends that he produced with his mind? What if he’s actually a homosexual prince whose identity is being stifled? What if his parents are forcing him to take a bride so he can continue their royal bloodline?

Think about it.

I love this!! I love these types of theories. Also, consider, what if they are real? Or at least, based on real people Prince Roman has seen and the reason the other sides only have one personality trait is because that’s all he knows about them.

Like, Logan’s based on the tutor Roman had as a kid and didn’t appreciate until he got fired, Roman’s parent’s saying he wasn’t doing a good enough job since Roman never paid attention during lessons.

Patton’s based on the royal messenger, who was always in a good mood, even when delivering bad news. He was always nice to Roman, sneaking treats and trinkets in with his letters. Giving him notes reminding him to smile when he noticed he was feeling down. It was unprofessional and he was fired once Roman’s parents found out.

Virgil’s based on a thief Roman barely caught a glimpse of as he watched him being dragged away, kicking and screaming. He called out to Roman to help but he just stood frozen, watching. His fight faded as he became resigned, accepting his fate.

Thomas is the only one Roman actually knew, a friend he had growing up. But, as soon as he was old enough, he was sent away to train, to join the army. He never returned.

None of them ever returned. Roman was left alone, wishing he could have saved them. He knows what happens to servants who are fired. He knows what happens to thieves. Thomas is the only one who he has a small spark of hope he could be alive. He wants to help him. So, in his head, he does.

He creates a fake world, where Logan, Patton, and Virgil are still with him. Where they’re alive. Where he has a family who cares. Where he can actually help.

You made this so much better, thank you for expanding on my theory! Hngggg if I had the guts I’d turn this into a fanfiction.

Something about the mental image of Logan getting fired (and possibly recieving a death sentence) because of Roman’s inability to focus makes my heart hurt so much. I can almost imagine the shattering of his happiness the moment he realizes that his own childish stupidity got these people killed.

So the way he interacts with Virgil makes sense. He comes in late due to the fact Roman had already created the world. He told Lilly because he saw him as the villian and shr took care of it(you know what I mean). His guilt slowly built up and he gave Virgil a redemption ark to deal with the guilt.

The reason he wasn’t helpful to Patton was his brain told him he couldn’t be the hero. Even though he had good intentions he was a part of the problem.

Valerie was probably who he was going to marry. In the first video she was the romantic interest, but later she is just a friend as well as him bringing up being gay on multiple occasions. He cherished her friendship but she tragically passed.

Talyn and Joan were mainly Thomas’s friends but he knew them fairly well. Like Thomas they just never came back.

Terrance was his servant. When he complained to his parents about him being treated badly due to his skin and status, they fired him, and told Roman he had been given a better job with a raise, and he just didn’t have time for him.

Deceit was probably the one who helped get the others caught. He told the royals that Logan was infective, Patton was messing with Roman, and that they should just have a chat with Lilly. He compliments Roman because he is the only one that matters in deceit’s eyes. He suggested that Roman talk to his parents about Terrance. He encourged the family to send Talyn, Joan, and Thomas to war. He suggested Valerie go on a dangerous quest to get something for Roman’s birthday a sign of their love(she didn’t want to raise suspension about Roman so she complied).

When it comes down to it, Roman is a scared child who lost his friends and his guilt will haught him until his last breathe. After all, what prince can’t even protect his friends?

You know, I had totally forgotten about this post until you reblogged it with this addition. The fact that you included all of the other people who show up in Sanders Sides absolutely destroyed me holy crap. Especially considering what you wrote about Terrance. That’s so horribly reminiscent of what things are like in the real world that it made this entire post so much worse. :’)

I’m crying now, thanks a lot

Headcanon that Patton was the one who informed Roman on what it meant to be gay. Growing up, my homophobic parents never told me what it meant to be gay out of fear that I’d end up that way, and so I take it that Roman’s parents had that same faulty mentality (and I assume they’re homophobic if they wanted him to marry a girl).

But Patton was gay. The king and queen didn’t know this, of course, or they never would have hired him. Roman, as a kid, one time noticed that this one guy made Patton smile like nothing else mattered, and he noticed how Patton would act differently in his presence. He asked Patton, and Patton answered honestly.

“Well, I have a crush on him.”

“But… he’s a guy.”

“Yes.”

“And you’re a guy.”

“Yes.”

“Guys can like guys?”

“Yes they can. Just like how some guys can like girls, some guys like guys. Some guys like both guys and girls, some guys like all genders.”

“Can girls like girls?”

“Yes they can.”

“Can I like guys?”

“Well, certainly. The thing is though, people who are gay—that’s the term for it—they don’t choose to be gay. They’re born that way. They just don’t realize they’re gay at first. Some people, however, they think that being gay is a choice, and that it’s wrong. That’s not true. I didn’t choose to be gay, I was born this way.”

When Roman is older, he realizes that he thinks he likes guys in the way he’s supposed to like girls, and he recalls that conversation.

Roman knows his parents don’t accept gay people and would never approve of him wanting to marry a guy. Roman remembers wishing so desperately that his dad could have been like Patton, so open and understanding on the topic. No, more than that. He wishes Patton were his dad, because Patton had been more of a father figure to him than his dad ever was. Patton would be the best dad.

When Roman creates his fantasy, he makes Patton the dad, and he also gives him the title of “Morality”, because he taught him important morals that his parents didn’t.

In Roman’s fantasy, he gave himself the title of the fanciful, creative dreamer, because that’s how he viewed his own self worth. He wished so desperately that his life could be different, he wished so desperately that his fantasies could be reality, he didn’t want to focus on anything other than his fantasies, he wanted to indulge in them and forget the truth. Everything was better in the fantasies. It was better to let himself believe them, believe that’s who he was.

He wished it could stay that way.

You.

I’m crying. Actual tears. Obstructing my vision.

This post has come so far, oh my goodness. I would LOVE it if you wrote something based on this. In fact, if you do, PLEASE TAG ME.

Based on the way you wrote your addition to this theory I have deducted that you are probably a fantastic writer. How you connected Patton from Roman’s real world and Morality from his fantasy absolutely crushed my heart.

I’d love to see your take on why Roman made Logan into Logic! Somebody already suggested that Logan was most likely Roman’s teacher at one point in time. And that Roman accidentally got him fired because he couldn’t pay attention. Do you have any ideas as to how this might have impacted Roman enough to make Logan one of the main players in his little made-up world?

I would love to write something for this AU, and I most certainly will tag you!

Wow, I am honored, thank you. That is quite a kind deduction. I’m a fanfic author and I would personally like to think I’m a fantastic one, so thank you!

Ohhhhh boy do I have ideas

I thrive off of angst and I live for this AU

Please tag me as well! You did fantastic!

Aww thank you!! I will!

No but what if Virgil is anxiety because when Roman saw him being dragged away to be killed, the last thing he saw on Virgil’s face was pure terror since he knew he was going to be killed

Also, after thinking about it for a few more minutes, consider this:

In the Hogwarts house episode, he assigned Virgil Slytherin, the (supposedly) evil house. He did this because he remembers Virgil as a theif, therefore evil. Then when he gets assigned Slytherin he animatedly protests “I’m not evil!” But the thing is, he thinks he might be. He feels guilt deep down about what he could’ve stopped from happening.

In the Moving On saga, what if the reason he wanted to stay and keep on looking at the memories is because memories of his past are all he has? All he has left of Logan, Patton, Virgil, and Thomas are the memories of them, so of course he’d want to stay and keep remembering. He wouldn’t want to leave. He’s so desperately clinging to the only happy times in his life that he’ll fight to stay there.

This theory could also explain Roman’s love of acting. Acting is pretending to be someone you’re not, to live a life you aren’t living. He definitely would love to be someone else, after everything that’s happened to him. After first Logan, then Patton, then Virgil, and finally Thomas, he’s done with the life he’s leading. He wants to be someone else. Acting lets you do that.

And plus, it explains a whole lot of his attitude towards Logan, if Logan was his teacher. The nicknames, which could form out of a close bond between student and teacher (which would make the firing of Logan all the more painful).

It also explains all those insulting nicknames he’s called Virgil. He’s probably heard thieves and criminals called…not so nice things. So he picked up on that. Virgil was a criminal. He just called him what everyone else referred to him and others like him. And then, once Virgil gets redemption, he stops. He stops thinking of him like a villain, so he stops the insulting nicknames.

And consider one more thing. Virgil’s name took forever to learn. We didn’t know it for so long. But what if that’s because Roman didn’t know Virgil’s name for a while either? He saw Virgil for not very long at all, how could he possibly have known his name? So he asks his dad maybe, and of course his dad wouldn’t tell him. (“It’s not important what his name is, he’s a criminal.”) Curious, he would’ve tried to find out time and time again, until eventually maybe he found someone. A servant, perhaps, or a jail guard who happened to remember his name. And he’s never felt more satisfied. But once he knows his name…it feels wrong to think of him as a villain. Learning his name makes him feel guilty, makes him realize Virgil is a person, not just a theif. So he gives him redemption, along with a name reveal.

Congratulations. You’ve successfully added a whole new level of depth to this silly theory turned AU. I love how you’re using actual examples from the videos and incorporating them into your explanations. It’s awesome!

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS

THIS IS SO SAD

BUT I LOVE IT

But Imagine this for the other sides too.

Virgil’s school was shot by a friend of his and the others are based off of students that died, and the accepting anxiety videos are him realizing that it isn’t his fault.

Patton was really close to all of his siblings after their parents left them, but they all died in a house fire and h felt bad for not being able to take care of them properly.

Logan was (This one isn’t as good) a lawyer, and the others are based off of either people that were killed and he let their killer(s) get away, or people that were innocent that he made go to prison.

I forgot about this and now there’s so much more added to it, I love it.

I have my new favorite theory

What a beautiful theory oh my goosness ❤

But wait, just because I can’t let this idea go-

What if all four of those scenarios- with Roman, Virgil, Patton, and Logan each having their imaginary worlds -are true? But in different worlds, or realities? And somehow by managing to all show up in this fantasy at the same time, they unknowingly start interacting with one another. They think they’re talking to imaginary people, but they’re actually talking across dimensions. So then something happens, and they suddenly realize they’re talking to actual people.

What the heck 😭😭😭

Sitting in math on an Emotional day trying not to start sobbing

have i reblogged this before? probably. do I care? no.
