wanted to jump on the “these girls that have unfairly been pitted against each other are actually dating” wagon, so here’s some Harry Potter WLW’s

Ginny was praised by the narrative for not crying, Cho was criticized for crying too much. Ginny doesn’t mind her girlfriend being a little emotional :)

Despite the narrative’s best efforts to trash on Parvati and Lavender, Hermione actually loves her femme girlfriends :)

it’s not exactly sanders sides, but I'm still gonna tag @accidental-sanders (I hope that’s okay)

yeah uh if you’re familiar with One’s (and/or Sophie’s) tiktok you will probably know of these oc’s. Hogwarts students, a Hufflepuff boy and a Slytherin girl. they went to the Yule Ball together. it was pretty cute.

I tried to make their outfits half formal and half casual. also the bottom pic is transparent :) (I hope)

Why do I find it so funny that 98% of the arguments and bashing against Hinny and Romione is always put on Ginny and Ron?? I have hardly met a fan who ever said these two Weasleys deserve better spouses

I think it’s because Harry and Hermione are two messes who can get way too caught up in their own heads, and who need someone light-hearted and fun to help them relax and enjoy life. That’s why they both love their respective redheaded partners; Ron and Ginny help Hermione and Harry have fun, and make their lives all the better for it.

There’s also a lot of classism in common arguments against the pairings, because goodness forbid that two wealthy kids end up falling for working class heroes like the Weasley siblings.

Thanks for the message, anon.

it’s some form of sexism too, but in different ways.

for hinny, it’s usually either “ginny was a dumb fangirl” or “ginny was a selfish slut”. in either way, she is considered to be “beneath” harry, which is why she doesn’t deserve him (apparently).

for romione, hermione is often made out to be some sort of trophy that ron didn’t earn.

Can we please stop with the hybrid house sorting? There is no ‘Slytherpuff’ house or a “Gryffinclaw” when/if you did the Pottermore test, you were placed in one of the four houses. Introducing yourself as a hybrid makes it seem like didn’t like the house you were put in. If you were sorted into Hufflepuff but you personally felt more like a Gryffindor, just say that! It’s okay! But the merging of houses really grinds my gears. Sorry for the rant, had to get it off my chest.

Okay I was going to just say this in the replies, but my followers deserve to see this:

I love Hogwarts as much as the next Potterhead. I am a Ravenclaw to the bone.

But as much as I love this school, it is fiction. One woman decided that this is how she would group characters that SHE created, in houses that SHE created, in a school that SHE created. Heck, there are characters in canon that had “hat stalls” and didn’t fit perfectly into one house! Sure, they did eventually either pick or get tossed into one house, but that was probably just so that they had a dorm to sleep in at night.

Fans don’t actually go to Hogwarts. We don’t actually sleep in house dorms at night. All it gives us to have a house is a fandom community. And since this fandom is so big, there are plenty of other Potterheads who identify as hybrid houses, so much that you could probably find fandom communities for “Gryffinclaw” alone.

Another thing (that I have discussed before but I think is relevant):

I know that this “fandom discourse” in no way is comparable to real life issues that minorities face, but lots of the arguments that people would use against me when I identified as “Huffleclaw” were suspiciously similar to the arguments that are used against me now that I identify as nonbinary.

“You were born as a girl, are you saying that being a girl isn’t good enough? It’s okay to not fit into gender roles, but you can’t just make up new genders!” That’s exactly how y’all sound when you complain about “hybrid houses”.

And it's interesting that the author of the Harry Potter books turned out to have an extremely cisnormative view of gender, it’s almost like the stoneset house system is tied to her conservative opinions!

I love how harry freaks out more about ron finding out he has a crush on his sister than the fact that he has the entire wizarding world relying on him to kill moldywarts

Shows you just how much Harry values his friendship with Ron, doesn’t it.

Voldemort: “avada kedavra”

harry: “meh”

ron: “thoughts on ginny?”

it’s a small thing but it kinda bugs me that Hermione has to be shorter that Harry (in fanart and such) when they’re kids

have you ever seen 6th-graders? 6th-grade boys are not taller than 6th-grade girls, they’re all still literal kids

Harry was described as a small kid, Hermione is never described that way

Harry had a growth spurt both between 4th-5th year and 5th-6th year and his adult self is never described as being like feet taller than Hermione so it’s very likely that Harry in year 1-4 was around Hermione’s height at most, if not even shorter

even JKR has kid!Harry depicted as taller than kid!Hermione in her sketches but she does have a skewed perception of gender so maybe she’s not the most reliable source
