ITS ALL ABOUT INTENT
you can have done all the research you can have planned everything out you can have the best ingredients you can have done the perfect blessing you can know the spell off by heart
BUT IF YOU DON’T HOLD YOUR INTENT IN YOUR MIND’S EYE WHILE CASTING…. well… things are gonna get fucked up
SO! Before casting anything - PAUSE to clear your mind, concentrate and FRAME your intent, then WORK your magic!
No, actually it isn’t about intent.
This is an incredibly recent and new development in the history of magic mostly only propagated by eclectic witches and that tradition is also very contemporary.
Classical magic has nothing to do with intent. It has everything to do with rigorous training in psychic development and following the directions because the tech itself is powerful. And very old. This is why things like absolute n00bs fucking with Classical magic like the Ars Goetia can still get manifestations and severe accidents and get into some deep shit as a result even with very little psychic development or ritual experience–sometimes with none at all.
Truth be told “intention” is a very weak force and a very weak way to drive your magic. Concentrating very very hard may work for you if you have mild psychism but it is very sloppy and uncontrolled in most people and doesn’t get you very far.
And before anyone goes off about chaos magic being about intention I’ll have you know that gnosis or reaching an altered state of consciousness is not the same as intention at all. It is a way of accessing an enhanced psychic state to drive the magic through. Things like Spare’s death posture, sexual orgasm, extreme periods of sleep deprivation or food fasting are not intention driven. Like Classical magic they are structured and tech driven and actually get someone to a liminal spiritual place where they can engage spirits or natural magical laws and forces. That requires leverage for success.
There is very little by means of the history of magic, and you can source it, that suggests intention is a favored method by our spiritual ancestors. That’s firstly because it’s a relatively recent modality and secondly it’s because magic and the tech of magic actually is quite universal across traditions and the tech changes very little over time even with differences in cultural spirit preferences and modalities. That’s because it objectively works and our foregoers didn’t need to change it. Otherwise they would have been using intent as a model by now. Don’t you think?
An intention in the correct context is nothing more than the thing you seek to achieve with your ritual and even then not all rituals need to have one.
If you go through the history of magic in the West there is very little to support the notion of concentrating very hard. Which from what I can gather is most of the mindset of both people on Tumblr and New Age forms of magic like neopaganism and eclectic witchcraft.
What this post really should say is that you should enhance the right tools and the right training by working your psychic development. That is what will help you drive and direct your magic alongside the proper tech. Not simply focusing until you start sweating. And no, psychic development does not simply entail practicing focusing very very hard, although it does require much of the time attention and focus of the mind.
This is an objectively untrue post and to see it on my dashboard is actually quite shocking as I’m very picky about who I follow.
I hope OP can take constructive criticism because this is far from “differences in style” and is objectively a poor method for gaining results.
Even in folk magic, it’s not about intent, so I hope nobody argues that angle. It’s about ingredients with power, it’s about tools that work, it’s about gods that do their own things if you ask. If you look at folk magic, there too is gnosis: trance, orgasm, drugs. And will. Intense will. But will is nothing without the will to hold your focus.
And @thedesertgod, I hope you’ll forgive me for the tags, but they apply to the conversation here.
My boyfriend is doing something awesome.
He’s making an online spell maker/ witch encyclopedia
Basically you can type in an intent or keywords and get ideas for spells
Or you can type out everything you want and it is also color coded (key words like love are red, courage is orange, etc.) and do cyber spells
It’s not done yet but once it is I’ll for sure be sharing on here!
gotta look this up to see if they ever finished this.
We plan on releasing it soon, the only thing is that not every ingredient has been added and after its out we may still be in the process of adding
Look forward to it! Android?
Certainly it works on all phones since it’ll be a web app, but it can be added to your home screen for convenience :)
I’m dying waiting for this
It’s out !!! @the-witch-in-wonderland

Wow thank you!! @caffeine-and-crystals
🔮Boosting this cause it’s amazing, and everyone should know about it!🔮
I forgot I made an account.
I LOVE THIS. I’d highly recommend to all witches, beginner to master, it is a PHENOMENAL tool, thank you to you who made it!!
@magyk-soul Thanks so much for saying so! I always show Ian the developer the nice messages from this post (sorry I don’t reply to every one!) And it always makes us smile to see people enjoying our site!
Since I haven’t reblogged this in a while and it turned up on my dash again today. Reminder that OP changed urls and is ash-verity above, and totally worth a follow. And if you haven’t yet checked out this site, do it NOW.
Don’t do this. It’s not going to work.
This is helpful for an ingredients list—to start. It doesn’t say how to use each one, it doesn’t say how to prepare or combine them, it doesn’t give sources, it doesn’t give traditions. It doesn’t give anything but a shopping list. It doesn’t make spells like it says. Since when is a spell a list of ingredients? It doesn’t tell you that for eggshells, you should bake-dry and crush them into powder for drawing circles. It just says eggshells. This is going to be deceptive for beginners thinking they can just throw some ingredients—unverified ingredients—together and it’ll somehow make a spell. Please don’t use this. Use it for ingredient ideas but look up actual recipes and procedures that have been tried and tested!! This thing will get you nowhere.
Recap of my strange, busy, successful Halloween.
This year I did more on Halloween than any other year, at least in variety and number of spells. It was great and made it feel like a true holiday, like I didn’t miss out. Here’s what happened.
- I tried a true love vision mirror spell. It didn’t work, or do anything at all, but I enjoy the adventure of trying new magic that I read. Even failures encourage me.
- I made a candle to represent my ancestors and venerate them.
- I held a Red Meal for my ancestors. We had soft brown rolls, massive grapes, and cranberry-pomegranate-apple juice with some vodka in it. When I had my share, one bite of each and one sip, I was flooded as if rushed by the alcohol. It couldn’t be that; I have a good tolerance and there was hardly any. I felt them with me, in my heart, burning out the bad and raising me up to the good. I felt wild.
- After the day was out, I put the remaining offerings outside and poured out the drink, all as an offering to the ancestors and the local spirits. My dog found the bread, despite my efforts, and ate it right in front of me. Now my whole family back to the dawn of time has had their food stolen by my dog. Thanks, you naughty dog.
- I created a powerful enchantment on an item, strong enough that it got hot and “burned” my finger. Very encouraging!
- At midnight I created a knot magic charm anchored to my altar, and I look forward to seeing what it will bring me when I wear it!
- I left out a bowl of milk for the cat-sith. Something drank the entire thing. My dog definitely could not get to it, no question, so I am assuming it was the cat-sith.
What a day. I need to sleep. Good night, good night. Happy new year.
NAUGHTY BAD DOG YOU DO NOT EAT THE ANCESTORS’ BREAD
Now technically everyone who has ever contributed to my blood has had food stolen from them by my dog
The end of the enchantment
“Take a drop of my blood, the blood of a witch, and be bound to me forever.”
I pressed my cold finger to the cold metal, and when they touched, the metal became hot like it had been held over a candle. I kept my finger there, and when I took it away, I was not burned. My nerves, I know, reacting to the magic. Or perhaps it really was hot. Who knows?
We will stay like this, you and I, and rise without limit.
When Sekhmet Came
When Sekhmet came, I knew a little about Egyptian gods, but simply out of interest and love of mythology. About as much as any other random pantheon that I wasn’t interested in worshiping. At the time I had no real god, just a solemn yearning and reach into the void, searching for help.
I didn’t know Sekhmet personally before Sekhmet came.
It was a hard day. I learned something relieving about something that had haunted me for years. I learned that it was over. I was doubled over in grief and happiness and relief and full of tears. I sobbed.
Suddenly, everything went black. Then Sekhmet came.
She stepped out of the blackness like a candle coming down a hall, resplendent, her arms open in welcome. Bast, a small image, was on her shoulder.
“I made this,” she told me. “I did this for you so that you may come to me and know me. Know me.”
The lights came back on and Sekhmet vanished. It all happened in a half second, like passing into a dream with time dilation, and waking up no longer feeling like any time had passed at all.
That is why I follow her. No other god has done this for me, no other god has come to me, no other god has filled me with love and courage the way she did. No other god has appeared before me and welcomed me.
Everything changed when Sekhmet came.
Look at this beauty! This one’s almost 30 cm across.
Intense home cleansing & warding
I’ve been asked about this before by someone who needed help cleaning a home that had something very bad in it. There are other versions of this, and you can do it with different levels of intensity and tools, but I’ve included everything here in case you’ve got to really blast it.
So let’s say you’ve been sloppy with your wards, or someone’s spell broke them because they weren’t strong enough, or you’re in a new place--or who knows what--and you need to clear it out badly. This isn’t about emptying the place of previous energy necessarily, but if you are worried about things--bad things--in your home that you need to evict, like entities, spirits, and hostile magics.
You will need:
- dragon’s blood resin
- frankincense resin
- myrrh resin
- salt (sea salt, kosher salt, himalayan salt) (I especially recommend himalayan salt for the iron in it, if you are concerned with fey, but if your practice involves the fey, please do not use himalayan salt.)
- charcoal
- a vessel to burn said charcoal
- a type of water of power (holy water, storm water, moon water, protective war water, water you’ve crafted, etc) - alternately a protective oil made from the three resins listed above
- a bell (either an actual bell or a pot to bang with a spoon; something that makes that kind of noise, something loud enough to be easy to hear, not small tinkly bells)
- A fan of some kind (feather, fan, even a magazine, it doesn’t matter here unless you need to add extra power by using a magical tool itself)
- A spell to command things out of your house (write it yourself, it’s fine) invoking the proper powers for your system, something that’s easy to remember and repeat
Procedure:
- Grind together the dragon’s blood resin, frankincense, myrrh, and salt. Make a lot and be sure you have enough; you will need to keep this smoking in every room, plus have a bit of it left over to sprinkle in each room. You can save extra for later. You can’t have too much on hand.
- Go to the room in your house farthest from the front door. Light your charcoal and place some of the powdered resin mixture in it. Don’t be afraid to be generous, since you’ll be using plenty, but don’t set off any smoke alarms.
- Ring your bell multiple times, reciting your spell to command things out of the room and house.
- Fan the smoke throughout the room. Resin smokes quite a bit, so it shouldn’t take long. Fan and ring the bell, working towards the door, shooing everything out.
- Sprinkle the extra resin/salt mixture in the four corners of the room, along with a few drops of the water of power. Put a little of the resin below any windows and anoint the windowsills with the water.
- Repeat this process, moving from room to room, “sealing” off each one. Work room by room towards the front door. Add more resin to the charcoal as necessary.
- DO NOT LEAVE ANY ROOMS UNDONE. This includes pantries that you could enter and furnace rooms.
- Once you’re at the final room, when you fan and drive it out, open the front door and work the smoke forward in the room, ringing the bell and reciting the spell. Drive everything out the front door. Shut the door, commanding the evil to stay out, and return to where it came from.
- Be sure to sprinkle and anoint the front door. If you have a back door, do the same.
To keep things out, make sure to create additional wards to place around your home. It helps to have them ready right away so you can place them when this is done. Rowan crosses, god’s eyes, protective dried plants and branches above the door, windchimes, living plant protection familiars, servitors, etc. There are too many options to list, you get the idea.
If you have familiar spirits, please be sure to direct them back into their spirit houses and vessels before beginning, and make sure your spell indicates they can stay.
For the Queen of Elphame
There’s a Queen in the Underground who by night shines luminous in the sky over all. She is moon and star and the darkness in between. She’s a light that isn’t sun to me. A cold burning over all that she touches. This winter domain is her kingdom and I’ve never felt closer to her than I do when I stand outside, letting the wind tear through my flesh and staring at the stark illuminated branches of the trees guarding my home. I think she owns a piece of me, if not all of me.
I think I see her sometimes in my reflection, clever and smirking. I see her elsewhere in the white gleam of teeth before they sink into tender flesh, streaming blood and snapping hungrily. I see her in the tender unfurling of soft midnight flowers, deep violets and emerald greens saturating my sight and blinding me. She is always violence and beauty to me. She takes over my dreams and much of my waking moments lately. She sings with her silver tongue, spilling her words into my ear and I wake in trances, clumsily transcribing her words in the pitch black - poems and songs and spells. She speaks in riddles and rhymes and vision and sound.
Words? No, there are no words. Not human words, it’s nothing so simple as a language - it’s a story made of song, woven of silk and spun like a web and when I touch it…When I touch it I am touching bone and fur and tooth and claw, blood and meat and muscle. When I touch it, I am hearing, seeing, tasting it. Dead leaves have filled my nose, and I try to breathe them in but I choke on the cold snow and rose petals spilling forth from my mouth. I can feel the vines, the tendrils under my skin, making their way to wrap around my heart. This is the sound of her - her voice fluid, like nectar, and made of rapid silent gestures - I miss them by a mile, all I can see is her quicksilver smile. She echoes through me, and I am fumbling, I understand nothing of her. When I try to grasp…She’s gone…
She’s ancient, stretching out through time in either direction. The ocean is young compared to her and she’ll be there when it dies. Her smile is carved like rock and her heart is the heart of the oldest tree, forbidden apples on her tongue with a tart taste of perfection that no mortal was meant to know. Or so they say…
But we all know rules are made to be broken and she remembers that first kiss like it was yesterday, or maybe mere moments ago. Hesitant and sweet and bloody and…and it’s happening even now. Even Eve. Ever Hers.
Night falls - or maybe it was always that way - and either way, it is hers for the taking. She prowls the land, hunting hungry with her horned consort - myth and magic. Together they ride, leading the undead, the fair folk, on their chase. The hounds howling across the sky. A neverending hunt. Beautiful and terrible and so…Just so.
She is the bones of me, the blood of me, the still beating fresh heart of me.
One of commissioned OCs, but I just fell in love.Due to many symbolic connotations with ravens, drew her as Veshnitsa-Soroka (Magpie-foreteller) — shapeshifting witch from slavic folklore.
Look at this beauty! It’s as big across as my forearm! There must be a nice root down there. I can’t wait to see when I harvest in November!
Cute Witchy Idea
Enchant/bless pennies to manifest desires when activated with water, then pass them out to children at fountains and wishing wells.
A spell to do this:
- Find as many pennies as you want to pass out (the shinier the better)
- Gather dandelion fluff (or whatever the technical term is), sage, bay leaves, basil, sugar
- Get a sachet, jar, bag, or envelope– something to hold your pennies
- Light a candle with a color that, in your opinion, represents wishing or manifesting desires
- Hold the pennies in your hands and think of wishes coming true.
- Speak or think: bringer of luck and granter of wishes, grace these coins with your favor. as the gentle water touches your abundant and gracious face, let a wish be granted
- Place the dandelion fluff in your bag along with the sage, basil, and bay leaves. Burn one bay leaf, and place the ashes in the bag. Optional: add sugar to “sweeten” the deal. Add the pennies last.
- Hold the bag and meditate on wishes coming true
- Once all of your pennies have been given away (or left on the edges of fountains and wells to be found), remove the dandelion seeds from your bag and let the wind carry them away/blow them away. You can do this with all contents of the bag if you wish
This is a really sweet idea. I would be more specific with what I said, and perhaps do different things, but still, this is the sweetest thing. I’ll have to experiment on it to see if it works. Now I need to find a well or fountain.
OK people
I need some spenders. I need some signal boosters. I need some people willing to do both.
I had a minor outpatient surgery back in June. The bill finally got through the insurance company and came due. It got paid… but that put us behind on my car payment, drove up credit card debt (for groceries), and leaves us with approximately $100 to get us through to the 5th.
It’s not a very long time, but that’s got to stretch for both food and gas so I can get back and forth to work.
Here’s the thing: I’m not asking for donations.
I’m asking for people to visit my etsy shop and possibly make a purchase.
The two shawls are ready to ship and can be sent out generally next day. The hats and booties are made to order and will generally ship out in 2-3 days. All tarot readings are done per individual request and will generally be completed in 2-3 days, unless it’s one of the large ones, in which case they will be completed within 7 days. (They take hours to do.)
I know a lot of people are in the same boat as I am. If that’s the case, please consider a signal boost.
Thanks, lovelies!
Would it help if I added my ko-fi link?
Can confirm, from more than one source, that @stitch-n-time is an excellent tarot reader.
Concerning the Use & Symbolism of Nails
By Martin Duffy, Three Hands Press
‘Within the witch’s craft many apparently mundane objects are considered to have both magical and mystical virtue, one example being the humble nail. Although some, on basis of morphology, ascribe to nails a phallic virtue, they also have a fixative power, i.e. the ability to bind one thing to another, for good or bane. Nails also partake in no small measure of the powers ascribed to their material, which is normally iron, that heavenly metal linked in the occult mind with blood and the virtues of redness.
When a thing is brought into contact with another it makes an alligation. The basis of alligation is that all things created, whether by the hands of man or nature, are bestowed by the Soul of the World with virtue, which is harnessed by bringing the virtuous object into contact with people/places/objects. Included in this is the binding of two things together in alligation by a nail, so that one might influence the other.
The thing or power being fixed by the nail to person, place or object can be manifold; even celestial powers corresponding to the time at which the nail was struck into its medium can be bound into workings. Herein we understand the basis of hammering various amulets into the lintel above the threshold, such as the apotropaic images of the sun, open hand or ubiquitous horseshoe.
Contrary to popular belief, nails are as protective as the horseshoes they affix. Indeed, Pliny the Elder advised hammering three iron nails, not horseshoes, into the threshold’s lintel to protect the home, likewise Paul Huson in Mastering Witchcraft advocated driving three iron coffin nails into the door, one above and two below in triangular formation. Similarly, protective enclosures are fashioned by striking nails into their four corners and wandering spirits are stopped by hammering nails into their coffins, whilst Romans averted plague and misfortune by driving nails into house walls. Thus is it axiomatic that the number of nails found within a horseshoe affects its potency, the more nails the greater the luck, although some hold true to the custom of fixing the shoe with three nails by means of three blows, alluding to the kinship betwixt nails and the number three.
Horseshoe nails have long been held to possess an array of powers, e.g. the crooked horseshoe nails hung as amulets about the necks of Irish children, and the horseshoe nails driven into the hearth by Teutonic peoples to draw back stolen property. Traditional witch Robert Cochrane recounted that “a horseshoe nail dipped in spring water was considered a prime remedy to use against the ‘little people’ when they grew bothersome”, which relies also on the well-known enmity betwixt the Fair Folk & iron.’ …
‘The most familiar witch tradition concerning nails is their use to pierce the witch’s manikin with benevolent or malevolent intent, yet there is equal tradition in using blackthorn spines, which like nails have an innate warding virtue. Thorns are often used alongside or in place of nails in the magical arts, e.g. in the famed witch-bottle or being tied into the end of the curse cord in place of a rusty nail. We might thus consider them as ‘wooden nails’ fashioned by the green hand of the Faerie Smith, to which Schulke alludes in Viridarium Umbris when he says, “the Thorn is both punitive & binding, the Holy Nail of the Greenwood executing the grim sentence of Crucifixion at once harnessing the forces of binding & torment”; it is in the crucifixion that we discover the nail’s apotheosis.’
Hey Jack :) so I got my copy of the Lesser Key and am half-way through reading it. I have several questions, some of which I have forgotten but will certainly be returning to bug you with (sorry). I’m curious what I should do for making the actual seals/sigils (forgot the proper term) for the demons because I really don’t have a bunch of gold and metal that I can melt and engrave. What should I make them with? I’m also curious about your linen robe. I saw a picture of it, but did you make it?
Hey there anon!
Oh don’t worry, I love being questioned.
In terms of the sigils, in my experience, any substitute will suffice. Be creative, carve them into clay or any other metal or stone. I use clean paper and use ink to draw them. When using paper keep them clean, unblemished and safe. I’ve been using paper medallions for years and not had a single problem.
When it comes to that pentagram, I’ve forgotten its name right now but it has Soluzen, Abdia, Ballaton and other names in it. Dammit what’s it’s called. But yeh anyway this pentagram needs the sigil of the demon your evoking on the other side. So make that pentagram out of something permanent so you can replace the sigil each time on the back.
My ceremonial robes? Oh nooooooo I didn’t make them not a seamstress at all!
Thanks for your question. Always here to help 😊
This bugger! Turns out it is the pentagram of Solomon, thought it had a different name. Yeh essential bit of kit worn on your chest and has the sigil of the demon on the other side. It’ll protect you from danger and force the spirit to comply. This one is laminated to keep it pristine and safe, so I can just stick the sigil on the reverse without damaging it. Again this is on parchment paper. We’re not millionaires, we just can’t afford to have every sigil and lamen on gold and silver.
I always love seeing the magic things you make. You’re always excellent at them and very creative!
You've mentioned having a spirit help you and/or protect you during spirit flight, but where does one find a spirit willing to help? Sorry I'm new to this
That’s alright. If you can obtain one, an alraun can guard you while you fly. Or you can ask your personal guardian spirit to watch over you or help lead you if you get lost.
I’ve just read up on alrauns, and now I feel compelled to make one out of the dandelions in the yard.
