There he had been, sprawled and broken and defeated, a patch of despair against the ice. Chained, abandoned, dying. Until she had arrived, with such a selfish hope the memory of it burned like wildfire in her veins. She remembered how cold he had been, and how his fingertips had taken the warmth of her own, snatched it away like it was his to take, to claim, to make his own. His face etched itself eternally behind her eyelids, so with every blink she was reminded, that though she had sought glory and triumph, in its place she had found hurt and anger, but slowly, it had paved a way for tenderness, and passion. He reminded me of who I am, she thought, and for that I cannot abandon him now.
