One of the several loose ends that Naruto SD revisits for Team Gai that the main series doesn’t (in addition to Tenten getting a rematch against Temari to prove herself and be acknowledged after her loss in the chunin exams, and Neji’s feelings about the Cloud Village after they cause the death of his father, Kakashi and Gai getting married, etc)…
When they’re older and come to understand Gai’s strictness and dotingness as signs of how much Gai truly cares for him, Team Gai has another group hug, this time with the students running to embrace Gai.

Random Neji Headcanons That I Think About A Lot
🕊️Birdwatching is a hobby of his. I kinda like to think that he got into it with his father, but after he passed away he kinda suppressed the hobby. It was just too painful. But when he gets older he decides to get back into it, kinda as another way to feel closer to his father again. Now he has a lot of books about birds, maybe has bird feeders or bird houses at his house.
🍃Enjoys reading. Probably not like a big bookworm, but likes reading shorter books as like a way to wind down from a busy day.
☯️Can cook really well. He ended up developing the skill more so out of necessity, but ends up kinda liking it.
🕊️Cats really like him. I feel like his more cool and collected personality makes them feel comfortable around him. Might even follow him around the village. He doesn’t mind too much. Would probably play with them if he thinks no one is looking.
🍃Is awful at card games. Just has the worst luck with them. Doesn’t use his Byakugan during them cuz he wants to play fair. Probably didn’t consider it until someone else pointed it out to him.
☯️Has chronic migraines. Gets into the habit of overusing his Byakugan, so he’s often treating migraines. He’s had days where everything was way too bright and loud.
🕊️Big tea guy. Probably has a much wider range of knowledge about tea than he’d ever care to admit.

Neji Headcanon because I said so
Neji probably wakes up at like 4:30 to 5:00 am. Like he has an entire morning routine. Literally a skincare/haircare girlie. He does like facemasks, serums, cleansers, moisturizers, probably uses a humidifier. Everything to keep his skin flawless ig. For his hair he definitely uses hair growth stuff, and things like serums for his hair to make sure it is always looking good. Ofc he uses sunscreen sticks because he has to go outside and can’t be burning up everyday. He definitely has a night routine too and it's basically like the morning routine but with night products instead of day products. His routines probably take him like 2 hours and 30 minutes because he does sm stuff.

It’s so funny how the Uchihas and the Hyuga clan have like no canon relationship with each other. Like the only two dojutsu clans in Konoha and they just don’t give a fuck about each other.
Like Hyuga heir gets kidnapped for her dojutsu by ninjas from another village and a branch Hyuga dies over it. The Uchiha don’t care.
A whole clan who possess a dojutsu gets wiped out by one of their own. The Hyuga don’t give a fuck.
Sasuke and Neji meet during the chunnin exams and they know nothing about each other. They also never interact again. And Hinata and Sasuke doesn’t even acknowledge each other.
Like it’s just so fucking funny.

Naruto Rivalry  
- Sakura’s rivalry with Ino wasn’t just about Sasuke. Sakura was jealous of Ino for her parents getting along, her ability to speak up, how she was expressing herself, and when Sasuke came to class he liked Ino more in her eyes.
- Ino saw Sakura as a rival because she was smarter, get along with people better, was one of the first to learn cloning, and in her eyes Sasuke (while cute) wasn’t her first crush who preferred Sakura
- Naruto was Sasuke’s rival: he made friends easily, He was loud but funny, and he need to direct his anger at something other then himself
- Sasuke was Naruto rival: academically did better on every level, had tried for years for Sakura to notice him, but took Sasuke one day and needed to build his anger at someone
- Hinata is Neji rival: the gifted kid that always had her dad’s attention, praised for learning main family technique better than her, and was just overall treated her like a nuisance 
- Neji is Hinata rival: the reason his dad is dead, believes she got handed a victory over him because of house A v house B, believes her not being good at byakugan as a direct result of her not trying as she doesn’t have to while he has to be 12 times better
