Lafayette Houses
This view shows the southeast corner of the Pratt Institute campus in Brooklyn along with the Lafayette Houses and NYPD's 88th Precinct just beyond. That wonderful old building (from 1890) once housed the 4th precinct; it stands at the corner of Dekalb and Classon Avenues. For more on the structure, one can go here.

Here’s a couple of shots of a fruit stand on Myrtle Avenue between Emerson Place and Classon Avenue. This is near Pratt Institute and the Clinton Hill area of Brooklyn.

Convent: Sisters of Mercy
Here are a couple of images I made while at Pratt. Just a few blocks away stands this convent, of the Sisters of Mercy. Through another site I just saw that the convent closed back in 2008 after 146 years. Go here to read an article from the NYT on the subject.

Myrtle and Classon, Brooklyn
Here’s what the corner of Myrtle and Classon Avenues looked like forty years ago. A gas station, albeit a Citgo, remains there today.

Classon Avenue, Brooklyn
Here are three young gentlemen, a trio if you will, taking a break from their work to pose for a photographer. I believe the location was Classon Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby Avenues.

Brooklyn 1981, Part Two
Continuing yesterday’s post, here are three images taken from a spot behind the ARC building on the Pratt Institute campus.
The images show the neglected track and soccer field, as well as buildings along Classon Avenue, just to the east. The final image shows a wonderful little building of the New York City Police Department, the 88th Precinct (with turret, in shadow). The cluster of buildings behind the station house make up Lafayette Gardens of the New York City Housing Authority—which is located at the corner of DeKalb and Classon Avenues.
