Not very many people on tumblr have been posting about the protests and police violence in St. Louis right now. This surprises me.

It’s like I said, it’s not interesting enough for tumblr anymore. When the black lives matter protests were first happening, it was a huge thing on tumblr. Now tumblr’s bored of it and you don’t even hear about it anymore.

I suppose that’s true. It’s just troubling because literally hundreds of people have been arrested. They literally strangled an old black woman at the galleria. Yesterday protestors shut down hwy 40 (which is the main central highway through the city). And they arrested those documenting and advocating first. Please tell me it’s not totally fucking terrifying that their first priority is to make sure no one else can see what they are doing. The city is being sued for their treatment of protestors.  I am pasting in some photos for those following the post. This has all been happening for the last two weeks. These are organized actions.  THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A JUDGE TELLS COPS THEY CAN KILL WHOMEVER THE FUCKING PLEASE

This is literally the first I’ve seen about this.

I suppose for the sake of people who don’t know my beloved St. Louis, I should be clear and state that this is the same place where Ferguson is. Ferguson is suburb of St. Louis, but the way out county/city is laid out, Ferguson is really just a neighborhood in St. Louis, so this is a continuation of the Ferguson uprising that has been reinvigorated after Jason Stockley (white cop) was acquitted for the murder of Anthony Lamar Smith (black man). Stockley chose to pursue a bench trial, and the judge acquitted him citing the following racist bullshit….

Important line transcribed for those who can see the image: “Finally, the Court observes, based on its nearly thirty years on the bench, that an urban heroin dealer not in possession of a firearm would be an anomaly.” WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Is there a date for this?

This was…. like a week ago? End of sept/beginning of oct. I have friends out there and I’m terrified for them.

Here is a link for the legal fund that’s set up for people to donate as well.

It’s legit ongoing. There are new protests every single day since Mid-September.

any white at a protest who tries to go against police and deliberately provoke a response from them is not to be trusted and does not have the safety of black and brown people in mind.

there is a good chance that they are police too. if anyone, especially a white dude, ever randomly gets your attention and conspiratorially tries to convince you to jump a police officer, then dude is a cop. They have been using this technique and script for at least 30 years.

Check their fucking shoes. They’re always too afraid that their little toesies will be hurt so they’ll usually still be rocking the exact same boots as the guys on the other side. This was what gave the cops away when they provoked riots in Toronto a while back.

@talesofalamia, remember when I pointed out the shoes of the two well-dressed informants near us?

The police officers seemed more concerned with calling Rep. John Walker a “race baiter” for doing something completely legal than they were in upholding the law. But the kicker is that Rep. Walker had already been arrested for the same thing years ago, which is why he fought for the law (and won) in the first place.

Officer Alex, we got your back ✊🏾

Can we take a moment to look how deeply imbedded racism is as a system when it comes to law enforcement?

This man reported his racist police chief who should NOT be in that position of power, because it opens doors to racial abuse. Instead of having a weight lifted off his shoulder… He is fearing for his life.

That is wrong beyond reason. He shouldn’t be fearing for his life. Also, the other officers shouldn’t be giving him reason to fear for his life. The police are the worst gang of them all.

You can read an article about it here.

I would also like to point out that Mr. Stone here is a Christian and was motivated by those beliefs to stand up against his asshole boss–just to point out that not all of them are horrible.

a good cop funny i was told they’re always the majority

Please note: “everyone who works retail, admin, or labor” is pretty much everyone. I can’t remember the last time I worked somewhere without “security” cameras that monitored employees.

I’m having a good laugh right now because our associates just got collectively reprimanded for leaning on the counters during 8 hour shifts on their feet, because it isn’t “professional” looking.  So apparently they can put up with a camera over their shoulder to make sure they do their jobs correctly, but a cop with a gun cant?

Do cops want CCTV cams removed from businesses and streets? If they don’t want to monitored on their jobs, why should everyone be monitored at theirs (and in their LIVES)? Oh, it makes cops’ job easier to have a video record of crimes and infractions? Huh.

HUH.

I work in an office and not retail, but I also know that every website I visit, and instant message or email I send is monitored and stored by my employer.

Also, surveillance cameras in public areas are nearly everywhere in America, watching just about everything completely innocent people are doing. Police should be held to a higher standard than the public they are sworn to protect, and the data shows that cops equipped with cameras are simply better cops.

Observation:

If my job included a risk of people accusing me of wrongfully killing people, I would love to have a camera because I believe the evidence would tend to make me look better.

If the evidence would make you look worse, maybe that’s the problem.

A former Georgia sheriff’s deputy, convicted for using a stun gun on a restrained detainee who later died alone in his cell, was sentenced on Friday to one month in jail and three years’ probation.
His conviction for cruelty of an inmate carried jail time of up to three years. But significantly shorter jail time was not the only way Chatham County superior court judge James Bass issued a more lenient sentence: he also allowed the former deputy to serve his time on the weekends.

Matthew Ajibade was found dead on January 1 this year. He was strapped to a restraining chair inside an isolation cell at the jail. The 21 year old guy was  The Savannah College of Art and Design student. Read more here.

But let’s concentrate on the cop who tasered the poor man to death and only got 1 month in jail. Besides, he’s allowed to serve his time on the weekends. Host of The Young Turks Cenk Uygur speaks the absolute truth when he suggests we try and reverse the cases. Any black person who’d try to even look (let alone taser) in a cop’s direction, would get killed. So why is that cops kill people and get 1 month in jail? That’s outrageous!
