Reflection for April 2, 2018 via @thepassionists Monday of the Octave of Easter In a very “masculine,” driven culture, and a patriarchal Church, it is good to be reminded of the gentle strength and deep interior faith of the feminine. This is precisely what we find in today’s Gospel reading, another version of the Easter Gospel. The first disciples to whom the Risen Jesus appears are women. The Apostles, the men, are all fearfully gathered in the upper room. This Gospel is an invitation to all of us, men and women, to develop those “feminine” qualities of love, mercy, humility and hiddenness as well as a maternal fearlessness and strength. These qualities enabled the women in our Gospel to brave a trip to the tomb of Jesus, and to have their eyes opened to encounter the Risen Lord. Let’s sit quietly today for a little while and ask God our Mother to gift us with a “feminine” heart.
