Acquire the habit of speaking to God as if you were alone with God. Speak with familiarity and confidence as to your dearest and most loving friend. Speak of your life, your plans, your troubles, your joys, your fears. In return, God will speak to you—not that you will hear audible words in your ears, but words that you will clearly understand in your heart.

Just as two friends, frequently in each other’s company, tend to develop similar habits, so too, by holding familiar converse with Jesus and the Blessed Virgin, by meditation on the mysteries of the Rosary and by living the same life in Holy Communion, we can become, to the extent of our lowliness, similar to them.
My brothers and sisters, you must make room for silence in your lives! Make a time every day when you set yourself apart from the restlessness of your activities. Make a place in the silence of your hearts where Jesus can speak to you — and where you can listen and speak back to him. This will help you grow in your friendship with God.
