What is the Marathon of Peace?

Every year, Teopoli provides underprivileged youth with a chance to experience a genuine summer camping experience. The Teopoli Summer Experience (T.S.E.) provides children (6-17 years old) with the opportunity to experience activities such as swimming, canoeing, fishing, sports, and hiking, in an environment that promotes positive self-esteem, moral character, and love for family. Furthermore, the T.S.E. shapes the twelve day event around the knowledge and practice of the Roman Catholic Faith. Every year, 200 children throughout the Greater Toronto Area and neighbouring communities come to Teopoli for this truly unique camping experience. It is thanks to the organization’s outreach, such as the Marathon of Peace, that half of these children are able to afford attending T.S.E.

On Saturday September 21, 2013, experienced relay marathoners will run 20 km each for a combined distance of 160 km, raising funds for Teopoli Summer Experience. The general public (walkers) are invited to travel the last 20 km of the run. As this is also a fund-raising initiative, participants are required to donate a minimum of $100.00. Is your child at the Teopoli Summer Experience? Here is an update since the children got there yesterday!

The kids had a fantastic first day yesterday! We were worried about the rain, but it turned out to be a beautiful and cool day.  The children got to know each other through ice breakers, and they are all now bonding.  The children had morning mass with Father Claudio, and learned about the Creation and how we are all God's masterpiece.  They went swimming, played soccer and basketball, made arts and crafts, as well as gimp bracelets. An intense game of Taboo was enjoyed by all, and we began watching a movie to end the evening.

Today, August 2nd marks the start of morning Rotations! The participants are learning about artists with Olivia and the Passion of Jesus Christ with Andrew and Neil in Theology.  Roles for our Passion Play have also been given by counselors Andrew and Emad. The kids are very excited about this! Elections are also happening tonight with the children. Each participant has the chance to run for various roles.  After saying a speech, they will be voted by their fellow participants. Finally, the participants are starting their Afternoon Activity Rotations (Canoeing, Hiking, Fishing, Science and Space and Sports and Art).

The Teopoli Summer Experience (TSE) is not a summer camp, and it is not just a place of recreation for youth.  TEOPOLI is a way of life for children and teenagers, 6 to 17 years of age. For 39 years, TEOPOLI  has been providing young people and their families an environment where the values of family life are taught and experienced.  Young people are encouraged to be responsible and independent through information about their Catholic faith, while enjoying themselves in many recreational activities in the secure and tranquil atmosphere of TEOPOLI Catholic Spiritual Center, located in the beautiful Muskoka area.

TEOPOLI itself boasts grand evergreens, a lake, river, waterfall, and meadows, all providing a deeply formative experience in a spiritual and recreational setting.

TEOPOLI is not a day program.  Participants live at TEOPOLI for a 10-day period.  This time away from home may concern many parents.  But our TEOPOLI Summer Experience has been designed precisely to have quality time with the participants in order to address some of the most important concerns of today’s parents.  TEOPOLI provides the best kind of formation for a positive self-esteem, a good character, a love for the family, and the knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith throughout life.  TEOPOLI has accepted and continues to receive registrations for young people of others faiths as well, because of its high quality of teaching and activities.

The TEOPOLI Summer Experience also provides a qualified staff that endeavors to present contemporary social and spiritual issues to the young people in order to address the values and virtues necessary for a good and wholesome life.  This is a demanding work at TEOPOLI, but it is accomplished among the activities of swimming, canoeing, arts & crafts, sports, music, culture, drama, theology, daily Holy Mass and rosary.  The young people will make new friends, experience new patterns of good behavior and come to appreciate and enjoy the friendship and supervision of the councilors, as well as the supportive staff. Summer memories of TEOPOLI truly last a lifetime! -

Pilgrimage of Love: Walking Pilgrimage from Toronto to the Cross of Teopoli The 15th  annual “Pilgrimage of Love”, organized by The United Society to sponsor underprivileged children to take part in the annual Teopoli Summer Experience will take place from July 6th to the 14th, 2013, starting from All Saints Church in Etobicoke and terminating at the Holy Cross of Teopoli, near Gravenhurst.  All are invited to participate for the whole Pilgrimage or for part of it.  If you’re unable to walk, please support this effort financially.  For further information please call our office at 416-243-7319.  Visit our website at www.teopoli.com
