What I find is that once you start a trend, it's easier to continue it. I mean, heck, I'm halfway separatist accidentally. I used to watch a lot of male youtubers (jacksepticeye, markiplier, those guys) and over time I've just... naturally graduated to women.... because they just make better content. Now I'm at the point where the only male youtubers I watch are the ones that shut up and clean shit (car detailing, yard work, carpet cleaning) and even then, I'm not subbed to them. It's just whatever youtube throws at me when I'm in a Vintage Chair Restoration kick.
But now that I'm here, it is SO easy for me to jump over to the other side further. This idea of "you must be 100% a separatist or you're a Bad Feminist" just doesn't work because women may have a favorite singer or a favorite youtuber who happens to be male that they are not going to drop because a random crazy feminist online told them to. So they'll never interact with separatism at all, because all that separatism is to them is some crazy women who demand she stops enjoying stuff.
But yea, like you/kthulhu said, a lot of the "half ass" separatist actions are ACTIVELY beneficial to women, often moreso than the "full separatist" actions.
Me not having a boyfriend doesn't directly help anyone but myself. But me choosing to shop exclusively at women owned businesses, regardless of if I have a boyfriend or not, DOES tangibly help the female population.
