This is a completely serious question, but can straight girls be radical feminist? I have only recently started reading radical feminist blogs and I now feel very critical of the mainstream liberal feminist movement. However, I’m a heterosexual WOC who only wants to learn more about rad feminism and do her part in supporting it.

Hey girl! I thought I was a heterosexual WOC supporting radical feminism, but since I really got into the movement and learned about unlearning my internalized misogyny, I have grown so much as a person and discovered that  I have been bisexual but repressed my feelings after growing up in a middle eastern country that operates under shariah law! Learning about radical feminism is for everyone, and as a woman who has her autonomy and rights under attack simply for being born a woman, you have a place here too!

Some friendly advice, when it comes to issues regarding sexuality, if you are 100% sure you are straight, be a little cautious with how you engage. Do not let people walk over you, but be aware of how being raised straight may impact your worldview and how you deal with certain conversations or issues, so just be mindful of the radfems that have been here for a long long time when they talk about their sexuality or oppression. That being said, do your own research from many avenues. Do not decide that someone is right because they have a lot of support, form your own opinions, and do your own reading. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions. Here are some resources to help!

I'm white and I want to do anything I can to support women of color, but I was always confused- am I allowed to republish stuff intended for WOC if I'm not OF? I want to spread positivity and art and stuff I just didn't know whether I could? I'm sorry

yeah in my opinion you can! cause it spreads the message/art/work of woc and gives them more of a platform! you could have woc followers who can see things intended for them.

Honestly I find it especially wild when western libfems act like their super duper positive experiences w/ the sex industry is even the norm in "developed" countries. Here in America, black girls are at such high risk for abuse already and make up a significant portion of girls forced or groomed into prostitution. Pretty much any minority or low income girl is at a terrible risk to be sexually exploited but they're all but forgotten by their fellow westerners because they're "inconvenient".

I’m constantly surprised and revolted at the same feminists that claim to “be intersectional”, considering they so casually ignore that in majority of the WORLD prostitution and the sex industry is such a huge way that girls and women are abused, raped and traded like property. Western Feminism is so embarrassing and just straight up damaging.

i'm feeling a little confused as to where i stand as a feminist lately because i've always been in support of trans people and believing they deserve respect but i also realize that no matter your gender identity biological women are going to be more oppressed based on sex and i think both are issues but i'm starting to see that they don't have to be addressed equally? like trans issues can be an issue on their own and not required under feminism? idk

yeah pretty much, trans-activism is being shoved into the umbrella of feminism, when it needs its own space. it’s crowding feminist issues like abortion, mensuration and pregnancy that aren’t getting heard because of the desire to remove woman-specific language which is super damaging to a movement created for women who face sex-based oppression

A co-worker of mine is currently transitioning 'male to female' (still a male, obviously) and has lost about 60lbs and is now underweight according to his doctor and he decided to tell me that when he's all done transitioning he'll be more of a woman than me because he's thinner than me and will wear makeup. cool cool cool, he's gonna be a great addition for the libfems

ugh im so sorry that sounds exhausting to deal with especially at work, but if you can try to explain to him about the societal pressure that gives girls and women alike eating disorders, and how fat women are more woman than he can ever be. men never cease to surprise me with how they view women as walking anorexic sex-dolls.

Hi! I have what I think might be kind of a dumb question. I had a discussion with a friend recently and she seemed to think there was a logical fallacy in including women who don't menstruate/are infertile in the definition of "women" while simultaneously excluding trans women who pass to the extent that any stranger on the street would guess that they are female. She said "if i don't menstruate, I'm not subject to the pink tax, so i'm not oppressed for my biology. a trans woman faces the" (1/2)

(2/2) “same thing. The world treats them as if they are female despite the fact that they are not.” she then said I was excluding people from the definition of “woman” who suffered “the exact same consequences of being female.” I wasn’t sure at the time how to respond and I’m still stumped. She also seemed to think the existence of a couple of random parents who raised biologically male kids as girls poked holes in this theory too. Can you help me here? Thanks in advance if you can! :)

The audacity of someone to try and remove infertile women from their own womanhood is baffling, first of all. Paying the pink tax is not the only way women are oppressed by their biology. From the moment girls and born, they are subject to expectations, assumptions and attitudes that will affect and change their lives. Their opportunities are different, their encouragement into STEM, their job prospects, their wages, all of these things change because of their SEX. Their biology is the reason they face harassment, condescension and a whole lot of crap the world will throw their way simply because of their sex. The “consequence” of being female does not begin in a woman’s 30s, 40s or 50s, when most trans-people begin to transition. It begins from the moment she is born, because she does not get socialized as a male, and does not receive male privilege. When you are born with a vagina, you are born to a class that is oppressed and has been oppressed throughout history. Please read up on the history of women’s oppression with the witch trails, voting rights, abortion rights, institutionalization, and so on because it’s so much bigger than one or two people’s conversations.

hi sorry i'm just wondering, do you or the like radfem group (sorry that sounded awkward idk how to phrase it) not believe that trans people are real? like that they're faking it? i'm just wondering because i can't always tells from the posts. thanks!!

As far as I understand, there’s trans people with sex dysphoria (called “truscum” if they spoke against non-dysphoric people calling themselves trans), and there’s non-binary individuals who don’t identify with their gender, or make new ones. As far as I’ve seen, radfems don’t believe in the need for a gender binary (making non-binary people’s labeling pointless).

They don’t say trans-people don’t exist, just that surgical transitioning is a drastic, expensive form of mutilation as a treatment for a psychological issue (sex dysphoria). In regard to non-binary individuals- to some extent, everybody is uncomfortable with their gender because of the gender-roles that are imposed on us. Neither femininity (encouraged on females) nor masculinity (imposed on males) assists with liberation, in fact, femininity (even hyperfemininity as exhibited by liberal feminists claiming empowerment in makeup & beauty rituals) is used as a means to control and regulate women’s behaviour.

Identifying out of your assigned gender is a privilege that most people cannot afford, and it is an unhelpful way to address the flaws with gender as a system. Gender=/= personality traits. Gender is the way that society stifles women’s growth and takes away opportunities for them to excel. Addressing this, and discarding the need for gender roles, while emphasizing the huge role our sex (male/female) plays in our oppression is important to achieve liberation. Our biology is the root of our oppression and we cannot ignore this, as most trans-activists and liberal feminists seek to do.

I get so sick of trans activists blaming radical feminists for physical attacks on trans people. Who carries out these attacks? Men. What sort of men? Not men who read Andrea Dworkin, that's for sure. In fact trans women are generally POC working as prostitutes who are murdered by homophobic, misogynistic johns. You think they look to Sheila Jeffreys or Julie Bindel for ideological justifications for their violence? I mean what a fucking ludicrous thing to even imply. not to rant to you but

Don't think you should call yourself a radical feminist. Looking down your blog all I see is the grassroots that feminism should be about. I'm sure there will be a large variety of things we disagree on but I'm relieved to see that there are still feminists out there talking about crime rates and sexual violence rather than mansplaining and how gender is a social construct

I think you should look up what radical feminism is, the radical refers to “root”.

Why do you believe vaginas are synonymous with womanhood?

Sex-based oppression is a thing

Do you believe people who don’t identify as women can be feminists? Why or why not?

I think men compromise the movement by calling themselves feminists because they will never fully understand what it means to experience being women. They do not fall under the class that experiences oppression based on their sex, which should be reason enough. There is no need to call themselves feminists, if their intentions were solely to be an active part of helping women progress- they would be content with calling themselves supporters of feminism and actually behaving in ways to help women. If you want to see how exactly you can be a male ally to feminism, click here.

Here’s the other question you sent:

Do you believe people assigned female at birth who identify as male or non-binary deserve access to resources provided in feminist spaces? Why or why not?

I think trans men deserve resources to assist them live safely and comfortably. If they desire access to resources in feminist spaces that still pertain to them, such as their reproductive health, trauma care, etc. then I think they should be offered it. The same goes for non-binary women.Non-binary males should be able to create their own spaces in order to deal with the issues they face uniquely. Gender non-conforming males have their own issues that are separate from gnc women and it would be best to address issues specifically instead of collectively in the same space where you could risk ignoring issues of one group over the other.

How are you a feminist if you're anti trans 🤔

I recognize sex dysphoria as a psychological condition like a mental illness which needs more extensive research into the root of the issue as opposed to suggesting cosmetic surgery and encouraging extremely regressive definitions of women=tits & dresses, which are literally the exact opposite of the ideals upon which feminism is based on
