On Shipping, Santana, Dantana, and Learning to Love Yourself

I decided to write these thoughts down because I could see that I was going to get a lot of questions from people about whether I’ve ‘jumped ship,’ to Dantana and if ship Brittana less now because of Heather’s show status. I don’t know how much sense this will make, and I’m not out to convert people. These are just my thoughts. I don’t see them as fact and neither should you. Just know that all of this is written out of love, man, and because I really like to theorise about fictional TV lesbians!

For those of you who just want the edited highlights and don’t want all the tedious wordage:

I haven’t jumped ship. I hate that phrase. I am loyal to the last. Once I’m in, I’m in ladies and gays. First frame to last frame, that’s how I roll. Just ask anyone who’s known me for a really long time. The payoff for that investment is sometimes really rewarding, and sometimes it’s soul-crushingly painful, but that’s the risk you take. I am however, a multi-shipper and an open-minded one, mostly because of what I see on my dash and the prompts people give me. In all honesty, adopting that made last season so much easier to get through. I know it’s not something everyone can do.

If anything, I ship Brittana more. We all have one person in our life who in whatever capacity means the world to us, that we’d drop everything for. This is what Brittany and Santana are to each other. A corner of Santana’s heart will always belong to Brittany, whether they’re together or apart. That’s a simple fact. Would I prefer it if they stayed together forever? Of course! Is that realistic outside the confines of fluff fic? Not really. It’s also not very interesting to write or play. So, seeing them with other people is kind of a necessary evil. 

The fact I think this doesn’t make me a better or worse shipper than someone who doesn’t. It’s not a competition. Brittana are my babies. They’ll always be my babies.
