·         Scientists figured out how to link robotic limbs with the part of the brain that deals with intent to move so people don’t have to think about how they will move the limb, it can just happen.

·         Child mortality is down everywhere and it keeps going down.

·         Thanks to the ice bucket challenge the gene responsible for ALS has been found, meaning we are closer to an effective treatment. Let me rephrase that: we are close to getting a treatment for a very bad disease because a lot of people (including really hot celebrities) got wet.

·         A solar powered plan circumnavigated the world.

·         Michael Jordan donates 2mil to try and help bridge connection between police and the community.

·         Tiger numbers are growing.

·         And manatees.

·         And pandas.

·         Pakistan has made strides toward outlawing honor killings.

·         70,000 Muslim clerics declared a fatwa against ISIS.

·         The Hamilton Mixtape is coming out. Which is a bunch of artists singing songs from the musical (Sia, Usher, Regina Spketor, etc.) I’m excited.

·         A personal victory for myself, I joined Tumblr and met angels in blog form so…that’s uplifting.

·         And I met my favorite voice actor at a con which was a bucket list accomplishment.

Shoutout to the people wondering if they’re still gonna have basic human rights.

All I’m saying is, it’s easy to say “representation doesn’t matter” “you identify with the person not their race” - when you’re white and all the stories are about white people

A funny thing about introducing a new queen into a hive that has lost its queen (or one that you’ve killed because her brood was too fighty). 

You have to introduce the new queen into the hive with these special queen cages that are stopped up with candy, and are open enough to let the hive smell the new queen, but not open enough that they can get in there and kill her.

Because they will kill her. 

When you first put the new queen in she smells like an intruder, but by the time it takes the bees to eat through the candy and free the queen, the queen’s pheromones will have had time to work and the hive will have gotten used to her.

From the outside this kinda seems like: 

“Yeh, we were all going to murder you to death before, but we’re full of candy now, so we’re cool. Oh yeh, and how about you be the new queen and stuff. Yeh, that’s cool too.”

A little over 15 years ago, I stayed home sick. I was curled up in bed when my mom came rushing into my room and woke me up - she’d been listening to the radio while she got ready for work, and someone had crashed a plane into the World Trade Center. 

From that moment, for literally days, I couldn’t make myself turn away from the news. Nobody could. We all just sat, glued to every report, desperate for facts that would tell us just how badly our country had been injured. 

That’s what tonight feels like. I know that it’s November 8th already on the east coast, that the little towns in New Hampshire that vote at midnight have already done their thing. I find myself desperately reading every article on FiveThirtyEight and checking the Washington Post and CNN, hoping for an update that says we’re going to survive this. That the great American experiment can’t be destroyed by hatred or fear.

For the second time in my life I am truly frightened for my nation, and just like when the towers fell, all I can do is watch and hope. So I’ll be around, for those who also can’t look away. We can sit our vigil together.
