xD I was expecting people to come in with an exacto knife, and instead you just hauled off with the sawed off shotgun and blew me away \o/
Quill is a reincarnator - they've lived and died quite a few times. Each time they die they end up in a different world and a different body.
New name, new lot in life, new abilities (or lack thereof), new language to learn, new culture to navigate.
Quill does NOT know why they keep reincarnating, or if there's anything they're supposed to be trying to accomplish. There hadn't been any kind of god or demon or existential dread that's explained what's going on.
As much as I love the "status window" concept for reincarnation/isekai stories, Quill doesn't have one of those.
What Quill does have is a terribly clear memory of their past lives. In some ways this is very useful, and in other ways it's very traumatizing. Every death is a memory - not just their own, but those in their lives.
Quill did not cope well with the first rebirth - they had been ready and had accepted their death in their first life and were ready to effectively just get to rest. No regrets, nothing to hold them here.
Arriving in the One Piece world is unique for Quill for a couple reasons:
1.) they have amnesia. They remember their past lives clearly, and know that they're a reincarnator, but they cannot remember being born into the One Piece world. They don't know who their parents are, or what they were doing prior to the start of a given story.
2.) They actually recognize the one piece world as a place that was a story in one of their other lives.
No other life that Quill has lived has been directly connected to a story - As Far As Quill Knows - but they know this one very well (they're a fan XD ). Which creates a new issue for Quill because do they just remove themselves from the equation, or do they try to make things better?
Would making them better make them worse?
Is the world's fate even the same with Quill there?
Interestingly enough, having a body that changes forms is not a first for Quill. They were Ranma in a past life, but Quill never read/learned about Ranma 1/2 so they didn't know the story. They were also in a world where people shape-shifted via magic, so for Quill, going to bed with boobs and waking up with a dick, isn't really an issue.
"Identity Crisis" was 8-9 lives ago, they're kind of over that.
And I've been using they/them, but Quill is 100% all pronouns. More out of apathy than anything else. They've been in so many bodies and lived so long they just don't care at this point.
