I'm glad this made you happy! I've been on swim team since I was??? 6? I think? (I'm in college now) and so I can't even tell you the number of hours I've spent daydreaming about mermaids and the ocean and pirates and stuff while swimming laps in the indoor pool, so I love your idea so much! I'm still new, so I'm still getting into the characters and stuff, but it's so interesting and YES.
Also, tall ships are the BEST. If you haven't, check out the story of the Brig Niagra during the Battle of Lake Erie in the War of 1812. It's easily one of my favorite real maritime history stories.
I!!! AM ALSO A LONG TIME SWIMMER WHO THINKS CONSTANTLY ABOUT THAT. Of course I’ve done that whole, “swim with your legs together and you’re a MAGICAL MERMAID” thing. I mean. Yeah. I’ve also done some coldwater scuba diving and also a lot of free-diving! Haven’t done much of it recently, but I do still so love to swim.
I’ll be sure to check it out! I’ve been to Niagara Falls before but I’ve never actually visited any of the Great Lakes! Certainly I’ve heard many a tale of the dangers of the ocean-like bodies, though~
I’m on the Bay of Fundy myself, have been all my life! We have the highest tides in the world here, and I’ve gone saltwater fishing numerous times now--although I’ve never been sailing, a lot of my inspiration from One Siren’s Soul stems directly from where I live, and also from my travels along the Eastern Coast. A few small towns in Newfoundland are huge influences on a few villages in the story itself, and the communities of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia I’ve lived in and visited contribute a lot of the culture and character!
