✊Would your OC win in a fight against an ostrich? For the OC Ask Game. (@daftydrafty)

@daftydrafty This really is a fun one isn't it? XD

✊ Would your OC win in a fight against an ostrich?

Dice time and dice say Sindre!

Sindre would not fight an ostrich. That's being mean to an animal that's only (potentially) protecting its home or offspring, why would he want to hurt them? Of course, if he had to, he would win. No, I am not explaining how. c:

ooo xuan and sindre for the character dynamics??

Okay, okay, I love these two very much, but disclaimer that “Sindre” is uh. Tricky. To talk about sometimes, and his identity contains a bit for spoilers.

”Sindre” goes by quite a few names, and can notably shift his appearance due to his skill with illusion magic. When Captain Xuân first meets him (about the middle of book two), he’s going by the name “Runi” and has a very different role from the one he did in book one. But when Xuân is made aware that their new companions recognize this “Runi” as a Navy officer, uh...

They may or may not hold him at swordpoint and threaten to take his life. So, how's that for first impressions?

Without revealing too much, here’s a run-down of Xuân’s perception of Runi after realizing his other identity:

  • Xuân is very, very paranoid around Runi. They hate illusion magic with a passion and the distrust caused by the fact that Runi could be hiding so much more really sets them on edge.
  • They’d never say so, though! All anyone would notice is that they seem to immediately lose their humour and playfulness when Runi enters the room--also maybe that they have him pinned with a death glare--but no one could say why. (Especially since Runi seems so weak-willed and nervous? Just generally not a threat at all?)
  • Xuân doesn’t outright avoid or ignore Runi, especially because they know he has knowledge and experience they don’t that could be helpful to listen to. But they certainly scrutinize every single thing he says or does with maximum suspicion.
  • Also they just really hate authority figures aside from themself.

Meanwhile, Runi’s opinion of Xuân:

  • Oh they scary ono’
  • Runi’s pretty much frightened of everyone though so, not much different there
  • But seriously! Runi is a lot more perceptive than what people think. He knows the culture Xuân originates from takes pride in their pacifism--so why is Xuân so vehemently against that? Why do they seek and create so much chaos and violence?
  • Runi is... confused by Xuân. He wonders at what could’ve caused them so much pain (both mental and physical) that they’re affected by it so many years later. He’s not sure he wants to know, but he wishes he could help...
  • Not that Xuân would ever let him near them ^^’

This was difficult! A lot of the relationship between these two hinges on major spoilers, so I’m afraid the lists are rather repetitive and sparse! Either way though, thank you for the ask, lovely! <3

Ooohh, these are neat!

Describe or summarize from your wip…

12. A scene that marks a big change

A big huge change event that happens in Two Witches Woven is actually coming up shortly in my writing, so here's a fun summary without too many spoilers!

Dione kinda maybe takes the Siren's Soul without asking (yunno, like stealing) and uses it with her magic to destroy a device the Scientist built to help the Navy in taking over a siren Haven. Problem is... she ends up using too much magic from the artifact, and as a consequence, the Siren's Soul has to replenish that magic from somewhere...

It's a shame all the magic that's currently keeping her alive is the closest source. :o

10. Your newest character

He's not even basically a character yet, I just have a role and a name! And he's possibly not even canon!

Dakari Noyoko is a young but prestigious siren hunter who has worked with Rose on the occasional job where she's needed someone with similar expertise. Sindre may be her assistant, but his talents definitely don't align with siren hunting, so when Rose hears tell of a magical artifact protected by sirens nearby, Dakari is called in to help.

Many problems make themselves readily apparent when Dakari discovers some very important things Sindre's been keeping secret--plus, against all his wants, seems Sindy has a bit of a crush~

AND I ALREADY LOVE DAKARI DESPITE NOT EVEN WRITING A SINGLE THING WITH HIM. what is wrong with my brain

for the palette challenge, sindre with either far away or electric chain?

LOOK I KNOW I JUST DREW HIM BUT I HAVEN'T DRAWN SINDRE HAPPY YET SO BLEH

ANYWAYS here's the Light Mage from before he started working for the Navy! Sindre/Runi is flippin' adorable and I Love him. While he was back in Norway, he'd travel between small villages and offer his magic to help people! (That is, if he could get away with it without being branded an evil demon or witch and getting an angry mob chasing after him... :S)

This one gets added to Sindre's playlist!!

Suffocate - Nathan Wagner

Couldn’t listen all the way through | Not my thing | It’s okay | Kinda catchy | Ok, I really like this | Downloading immediately | Already in my library

This one is actually also in Sindre's playlist, too! A lot of Nathan Wagner's songs are, for that soft, emotional and kinda sorrowful aspect~

Sindre reminds me a lot of myself, so I am biased!

Sindre is definitely the favourite of a fair few of my friends, especially of those who know the story spoilers~ c;

I personally really love his design and aesthetic, but his personality is certainly a little (subconsciously) based on a friend I love very much <3

Tell me about Sindre?

The tiniest travesty

-----

Someone found the fancy text I see

If I say too much, MANY spoilers will be revealed. ouo Sindy is a very. Spoilery. Character.

But he’s also a sweetheart and I love talking about him so

At the start of book one, Sindre is the third mate on board the Compass under Captain Io! Apparently the two are actually cousins, though not many believe it. Sindy works closely with Phoenix (the first mate) with regular ship-maintenance duties, paperwork stuff, and doles out orders to the crew, though he does this far less often than the higher ranks. Initially, Sindy is seemingly a quiet young lad who fades into the background all too easily, some even claiming he turns invisible as his presence is so often forgotten. He’s plagued with terrible anxiety despite his skills and experience, a truth only further worsened by many of the crew’s disrespect of him due to his youth, his unusual appearance (being leucistic), and his relatively unknown origins. He’s clever and competent at his job--the whole reason he managed to get to his rank at such a young age, but alas, his anxiety has a habit of convincing him of the opposite.

Okay, so. Seems like an innocent but bright kid with anxiety who just happens to have been given a high rank, right?

hm

After Phoenix becomes... unfit for duty, shall we say, Sindre is ranked up to second mate. When Sindy meets Celestine later on, well... things start to get interesting.

“No. I don’t remember who you are,” I replied, mind still muddled, the incessant pattering of the rain outside not helping much in clearing it. “Phoenix called you Sindre, but...” His smile lessened, the sorrow returning to tip his words, but underlying a sustained sense of joy and gratitude.
“That’s alright, Little Cloud. We have to take this slowly. Your mind is fragile, still.”

Let’s just say Sindre... is not really Sindre. c;

This games sound fun! Kari Brynhildr enjoys both the art of sketching and the piano. He's an excellent archer and uses his skills to hunt for food. He appears gruff at first but he becomes very affectionate once he forms a liking to you.

Avatar

I feel like Sindre would really appreciate Kari’s company? Sindy is quite a quiet lad, but he’s very competent and clever and respectful, and I feel Kari would like that? Sindy would also really admire Kari’s abilities and honestly, he’s very used to initially gruff/cold people warming up to him. XD

Sindre also is a long ranged weapon user, with his flintlock rifle! He’s really good with it, too, and I feel if Kari would offer, Sindre would love to try learning archery too~

Dice say Sindre! Ohhhh~

10. What are some of your oc’s pet peeves? How do they handle it when the annoyance doesn’t stop?

Sindre doesn’t have much that annoys him (at least, not that he shows), but if someone extinguishes a light nearby without telling him they’re going to, he gets spooked real easy. Same comes with suddenly opening curtains or doors to bright sun. Lighting a fire or lamp is fine, since it starts slowly before brightening, but anything to do with a sudden light change, and he gets rather annoyed if you keep doing it after he tells you not to. He doesn’t like mirrors being pointed his way, either.

Some of the sailors of the Compass’ crew unfortunately figured this out, and as they have a bit of a hobby teasing (bullying) the poor soul, they very well didn’t listen to his requests to stop. Those lights started mysteriously going out without reason. The sun clouded over. Mirrors broke. Wonder what that’s about...

11. Does your oc have a good sense of direction? Do they get lost easily?

Sindre’s navigation skills are remarkable! He’s been a sailor for a while and a seafarer even longer, and has the sun and stars to travel by! Even when it’s cloudy, he always seems to know where things are~

12. How well would your oc handle being placed in a leadership position?

Sort of well...? With people that would actually listen to him, wonderfully! He knows what orders to give and he’s able to dole out roles to what’s best, but... finding a team that would actually listen to him, well. That’s the unlikely thing. Sindre unfortunately has quite a difficult time with getting other people’s respect, seeming a bit too shy and a bit too flustered despite his admirable skills and experience.

Avatar

This one is for Sindre, according to the dice!

27. What is your oc’s sleep schedule like? Are they a night owl, an early morning riser, or do they get any sleep at all?

Sindy’s one who is fairly good at getting his proper sleep! It’s definitely difficult for him to get to sleep in the first place, unfortunately, his anxiety often coming up with all sorts of reasons why he shouldn’t let down his guard, but he goes to bed early enough that he’s usually able to get the hours he needs, unless something is particularly worrying him about the next day. He’s okay with getting up whenever needed, but his favourite is taking the night shift, since he finds himself the most awake at night!

51. If your oc was to receive an award for something, what would it most likely be for? Have they received any awards in the past?

Sindre’s probably received a few awards through his Naval training, though nothing particularly prestigious. He would most likely be rewarded for a creative and strategic plan in the case of a ship battle that stumps the rest of his crew!

94. Does your oc rely more on a logical or emotional mindset? What situations would this be the opposite?

Sindre wants to be more logical, but alas, he’s usually far more emotional in what he follows! He’s very good at seeming logical, however--perhaps he’s not followed the Navy’s rules all the time, but no one would really find out... In situations where this would be the opposite... hmm. In life-threatening situations, Sindre is usually capable of putting emotions behind him to take the most logical course of action.

Thanks for the ask!!

Anchored Souls — side cast name meanings

“It’s not an insult if it’s true. It’s an observation,” Martínez retorted, tipping their head back as if correcting a child’s mistake. “But I understand why you would say that, considering you’re a moron.”
“I think of it ‘s more of a nickname.” Solarin set her hands to her hips, cocking her head. “Somethin’ she only calls people she likes.” Martínez winced, cheeks rapidly reddening.
“SHUT UP, IDIOT. I DON’T… hhnnrrhhh I don’t like you...” Solarin’s smirk somehow widened further. She narrowed her eyes.
“... Izzit love, th--oof!” Her stomach, as that was as high as they could reach, abruptly became the target for an onslaught of tiny siren fists.
SHUT. YOUR. FACE.” Solarin half-heartedly attempted to defend herself, a genuine challenge amidst the fit of giggling shaking her sides.

🔎 for io and sindre?

Avatar

You can find Io’s here, but here’s one for Sindre! And oh my stars, the spoilers... ahhhhhhh

Heads up for somewhat major spoilers!

  • 5′7″ and 3/4 or... something about there. He’s usually ducking his head due to anxiety though, so no one really knows his true height.
  • I’ve been on and off about whether I would classify him as albino or not, but I’m pretty sure he’s at least heavily leucistic. Extremely pale, near-white and quite translucent skin. Veins are obvious on his wrist and long fingers. Pure white hair that falls very straight and to his waist, and bangs to his chest always framing his face with a side parting.
  • He’s got a thin build, but he’s just really lanky and wiry. Boney shoulders and hips, lithe shape overall. He’s still not grown into his long limbs, so occasionally is unsure about where to rest them and ends up looking like a nervous spider. ^^’
  • Squarish but soft jaw, round chin, thin but round lips. Long and rectangular face overall. Strong, narrow, triangular and slightly upturned nose with a high bridge. Dark, brown, thick eyebrows with a notable angular arch. Round, almost droopy eyes that are constantly shifting through different colours depending on the lighting. Different shades of blue are most common, but so are browns, various shades of grey/black/white, and even green.
  • His ears have five points along the helix and one on the lobe that extend out into little glowy bulbs that he constantly hides underneath his hair, but shhhh you don’t know that yet shhhhh
  • When using magic his eyes glow, but when in the dark he also has bioluminescent dots curling along his cheeks, forehead and down across his chest and arms. These glow the same colour as the magic he’s currently using.
  • He often wears his Navy uniform for third/second mate, a dark blue jacket with golden trim and buttons, dark pants and leather boots. White undershirt. When at work, he wears a flintlock rifle across his back on a leather sash diagonally across his chest.

He’s a nervous child that I love Very Much

6, 15, and 18 for io and sindre?

Avatar

You really do have an interest in Io and Sindy, huh? >u>

6. Their vices (physical or emotional)

This is just like... a negative character trait, right? Like... a weakness/obstacle to the character?

Captain Io’s major one is pretty clearly her lack of understanding of social cues. She might be an epic badass of a warrior, but unfortunately that doesn’t help her much when it comes to formal meetings and parties. :S She’s blunt, doesn’t understand nor care much for others’ feelings, and that doesn’t help the fact that a lot of the other high ranks of the Navy are jealous and animus towards her position.

Sindy’s is his anxiety! His worry! His cowardice. :c It may have saved his life, but his previous friends would blame him for their own deaths.

15. What it takes to make them cry

WOW MEAN OKAY

When Io slips up in her emotionless facade, it’s a full on breakdown. She’s out of commission for hours. It’s really, REALLY rare that this occurs, but then again. Not many would know enough and would be brave enough to try bringing it up: but blaming Io for her mother’s death? Maybe with specifics included (”If only you didn’t hesitate...”), well. After attempting to murder the person, she’d lock herself in her quarters and not come out for the full day.

Io’s a very angry crier. She never gets sad so much as furious. Either at someone else, or herself. It’s not fun. :c

Sindre’s pretty easy to get crying, though. D: Just tell him he’s useless and he’s gone.

18. Things they’ll never admit

That Io has magic? Oh uh I mean. Captain Io would never admit it aloud, but she really is close friends with Phoenix, and genuinely is lost without her.

That Sindre is actually an █████████? Sindre knows ways more than he lets on! That he really doesn’t agree with Rose’s goals is one of those facts he doesn’t admit~

Who’s the tallest of your cast? Who’s the shortest?

Avatar

Oh! Random question time, I love it!

I actually have a rough height chart I made a while ago, because I myself kept losing track of this. XD

From smallest to tallest, left to right!

Captain Io, Celestine, Isabel, Caelin, Rose, Sindre, Captain Xuân, (Captain) George, Dione, and Phoenix!

As for my other wips, I haven’t figured that out just yet!
